Abstract

Physical activity during childhood is critical for healthy growth and development, contributing to both physical and mental well-being. This study aimed to assessment of physical activity levels and anthropometric measurements among elementary school children living on Panggang and Pramuka Islands, part of the Thousand Islands regency in Indonesia. The study sample includes 264 students from grades V and VI, consisting of 152 male and 112 female participants. Physical activity was evaluated using a modified version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) designed for children. Anthropometric measurements, including weight, height, and body mass index (BMI), were collected using a Xiaomi Mi 2 Pro scale for weight and BMI, and a stadiometer for height. Findings reveal that most students on these islands engage in moderate to high levels of physical activity, reflecting the outdoor, active lifestyle typical of the region. However, a minority of students exhibited low physical activity levels, highlighting the need for targeted interventions to increase engagement in physical activity. The unique geographic and cultural setting of Panggang and Pramuka Islands underscores the importance of developing localized strategies to enhance physical activity and ensure the long-term health of children, preventing potential risks like obesity, cardiovascular issues, and psychosocial challenges. This research provides a comprehensive understanding of children's physical activity and health status in the Thousand Islands, offering valuable insights for policymakers and educators in promoting healthier lifestyles in similar remote settings.

Abstract

Abstract The Thousand Islands are widely known by domestic and foreign tourists for their extraordinary charm, including for diving lovers. The region, which has eleven inhabited islands, has one island known as a diving paradise, Pramuka Island, which is also the center of the Thousand Islands Regency. As a dive trainer, your responsibilities include technical training and diver safety, but also preparedness for emergencies that may occur. This study aims to provide education on handling injuries that may be experienced by divers. The method of implementation of this training is starting with an initial knowledge test, material delivery, practice, discussion, final knowledge test. The number of participants was 25 people, all of whom were diving trainers. The results showed that there was an increase in the trainer's understanding during education, namely an increase in the initial knowledge test results by 28% and the final knowledge test results by 72%. In conclusion, educational activities can run smoothly and are greeted with enthusiasm by the education participants. So it can be concluded that this training activity is very successful and beneficial for the trainers in particular. This success is indicated by the suitability of the material with the evaluation results given to the participants. The positive response from participants is also a very good indicator of success that this education is the education expected by diving or diving coaches in the Thousand Islands, especially on Pramuka Island, because it can be useful both in handling and knowledge of the coaches on Pramuka Island as one of the competencies as a trainer. Abstract

Background Problem: Nutrition plays an important role in fitness, yet there is limited understanding of how non-sporting students, particularly nutrition students, manage their fitness. This study fills the gap by exploring the relationship between physical activity, dietary habits, and fitness in this group. Research Objective: This study aims to examine the fitness profile of female undergraduate nutrition students and explore the factors associated with fitness such as physical activity level (PAL), nutritional status, and diet. Methods: To answer the research objective, a cross-sectional design was conducted, involving 114 healthy female students, aged 18-20 years old. Respondents were selected by using proportional random sampling, which enabled equal representation of each class in the study. Exclusion criteria: students have chronic disease or condition affecting physical fitness. Physical fitness was assessed using the Harvard Step Test, PAL was measured via an online self-administered IPAQ, nutritional status was assessed using a body mass index (BMI) calculation, and dietary data (energy and iron intakes) was assessed using 2x24 non-consecutive food records. Chi-squares or Fisher Exact tests were done to analyse the association between physical fitness and other variables. Finding and Result: We found that almost all of our respondents were at poor levels of physical fitness. There was no significant association between physical fitness and other variables such as PAL, BMI, and diet. Conclusion: This research supported previous findings that college students in health majors have poor fitness. Future studies should explore additional factors such as physiological stress, sleep pattern, or socio-economic status that may impact the fitness level of health-major students.

Abstract

The arch of the foot is a biomechanical structural element that can affect the physical performance of athletes in sports that require dynamic movements such as soccer. The arch of the foot, both normal and flat, contributes to the efficiency of movement and load distribution when running, jumping, and changing direction suddenly. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the differences in agility performance and vertical leg muscle explosive power in regional-level soccer players based on variations in the shape of the arch of the foot, namely normal and flat. The method used is an observational study involving regional-level soccer players aged 19–22 years who have participated in regional-level competitions. Agility measurements were carried out using an 8×5 meter back and forth running test, while vertical jumping ability was assessed through a vertical jump test using the Vertec tool. The results of the study with the t-test showed that there was no significant difference between the normal and flat-footed groups in either the agility variable (p = 0.141) or the vertical jump (p = 0.121). The conclusion of this study shows that there is no significant difference between regional level soccer players with normal and flat foot arch types in terms of agility and vertical jumping ability.
