Abstract

This community service activity for processing used cooking oil into biodiesel was carried out at Banyuasin III SMPN 5, South Sumatra. Around the school there are many fried traders and tent stalls that have the potential to produce used cooking oil. Seeing this potential, the community service team of the Sriwijaya Polytechnic Department of Chemical Engineering provided training to students and teachers of the South Sumatra Banyuasin SMPN 5 to make laboratory-scale biodiesel from used cooking oil. Biodiesel production can be used to increase the potential of human resources and preserve the environment from used cooking oil pollutants. The method of implementing this service activity is with the pattern of field schools with press points on the exploration of knowledge, awareness of the environment, and skills and forms of approach taken to increase the motivation of students and teachers as partners and able to process used cooking oil into biodiesel by socializing about the importance of saving fossil fuels, protecting the environment and producing alternative fuels from used cooking oil which are often found in everyday life.

Abstract

The target of community service assignments in 2018 is productive communities that need development in the field of environmental management, namely employees of the Quality Control Laboratory of PT. Semen Baturaja OKU. Coal ash is a waste unlike gas from combustion, because it is a solid material that is not easily dissolved and is not volatile so it will be more troublesome in handling. If the amount is large and is not handled properly, then the coal ash can pollute the environment especially caused by fly ash and can be sucked by humans and animals can also affect the condition of the surrounding water and soil so that it can kill the plants. The chemical composition of Fly ash is silica, alumina and iron with little calcium, magnesium, sulfate, and other components. Currently coal fly ash is used in cement plants as a mixture of concrete makers. Because of the smoothness and round shape of the granules, the use of fly ash on the concrete mixture can increase the slack on the concrete mixture. The advantages of using fly ash include increasing the strength of concrete, filling the pores in the concrete so that the porosity of the concrete becomes low, while increasing the density of concrete so that it can increase the tightness of concrete to water. The coal fly ash waste that accumulates also occurs in the industry of PT Semen Baturaja Ogan Komering Ulu. PT. Semen Baturaja is one of the largest cement industries in Sumatra that produces PCC (Portland Composite Cement). PCC type cement is cement made by utilizing inorganic additives such as fly ash and trass. Aside from being an additional material for cement, fly ash can also be used as a raw material for making silica membranes which serves to reduce metal content in acid mine drainage. So that the author wishes to socialize the employees and employees of PT Semen Baturaja especially in the BTA II Quality Control laboratory division to disseminate knowledge about the benefits of coal fly ash as raw material for silica membranes in minimizing B3 waste so that environmental management with a friendly environment will achieved.

Abstract

Durian waste is the basic ingredient of making this briquette and just piling up into waste in the neighborhood where it sells and can not provide economic value. Now the material we used to call environmental waste will turn into alternative fuels. Through the process of processing, durian waste will be fuel in the form of briquettes and this product will have a fairly high selling value. The briquettes also smell good when used, making them suitable for the food industry, both large and large scale. Because of these several advantages, durian leather briquettes have wide open market potential in both local, domestic and export markets. The method implemented is to socialize the utilization of durian skin by spreading knowledge with the manufacture and processing of durian skin so as to produce the outcome of durian briquette product as a substitute of fuel in the era of expensive energy.

Abstract

AbstrakPelatihan penulisan ilmiah dan sosialisasi dampak negatif plagiasi serta perjokian untuk mahasiswa Teknik Mesin Universitas Tamansiswa Palembang merupakan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat dengan tujuan yaitu meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilan mahasiswa dalam penulisan karya ilmiah yang berintegritas. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan sebagai respons terhadap maraknya kasus plagiarisme dan praktik perjokian di kalangan mahasiswa, yang disebabkan oleh faktor seperti tekanan akademik, kurangnya pemahaman tentang teknik penulisan, dan akses mudah terhadap jasa tidak etis. Metode pelaksanaan terdiri dari tiga tahap utama: pemaparan materi tentang penulisan ilmiah, sosialisasi dampak negatif plagiasi dan perjokian, serta pelatihan praktis penggunaan alat pendeteksi plagiarisme seperti Turnitin dan Grammarly. Mahasiswa peserta kegiatan yang terlibat aktif dalam diskusi interaktif dan praktik langsung. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman mahasiswa mengenai teknik penulisan ilmiah, etika akademik, dan cara menghindari pelanggaran. Selain itu, mahasiswa juga memperoleh keterampilan menggunakan alat bantu untuk memastikan orisinalitas karya tulis. Kegiatan ini tidak hanya mengurangi risiko plagiarisme dan perjokian tetapi juga membangun budaya akademik yang jujur dan bertanggung jawab. Dampak jangka panjangnya adalah peningkatan kualitas lulusan dan reputasi institusi. Saran untuk keberlanjutan kegiatan ini adalah menjalin kerjasama lebih luas dan mengadakan pelatihan berkala untuk memastikan pemahaman yang berkelanjutan. Kata kunci: pelatihan; sosialisasi; penulisan ilmiah; plagiasi; perjokian. AbstractScientific writing training and socialization of the negative impact of plagiarism and cheating for Mechanical Engineering students of Tamansiswa University Palembang is a community service activity with the aim of increasing students' understanding and skills in writing scientific papers with integrity. This activity was carried out in response to the rampant cases of plagiarism and cheating among students, caused by factors such as academic pressure, lack of understanding of writing techniques, and easy access to unethical services. The implementation method consisted of three main stages: material presentation on scientific writing, socialization of the negative impact of plagiarism and cheating, and practical training on the use of plagiarism detection tools such as Turnitin and Grammarly. Students participating in the activity were actively involved in interactive discussions and hands-on practice. The results showed a significant increase in students' understanding of scientific writing techniques, academic ethics, and how to avoid violations. In addition, students also acquire the skills to use tools to ensure the originality of the written work. These activities not only reduce the risk of plagiarism and cheating but also build an honest and responsible academic culture. The long-term impact is to improve the quality of graduates and the reputation of the institution. Suggestions for the sustainability of this activity are to establish wider cooperation and conduct periodic training to ensure continuous understanding. Keywords: training; socialization; scientific writing; plagiarism; cheating.

Abstract

Limited renewable energy literacy and inadequate utilization of organic waste remain significant challenges in school-based environmental education. This community service program aimed to enhance renewable energy literacy and practical biomass utilization skills among students and teachers at Al-Amalul Khair Islamic Boarding School, Palembang, Indonesia, through aromatic biobriquette production training. The program employed a community-based learning approach consisting of lectures, technical demonstrations, hands-on practice, and interactive discussions. Thirty participants were involved in the activity. Program effectiveness was evaluated using a one-group pretest–posttest design. The results showed a significant increase in participants’ knowledge, with the mean score improving from 45.67 before the training to 95.00 after the training. In addition, participants demonstrated strong engagement during practical activities and expressed willingness to apply aromatic biobriquette technology for sustainable organic waste management. The findings indicate that hands-on training effectively improves renewable energy literacy and technical competencies related to biomass-based energy production.

Abstract

Energi surya merupakan salah satu sumber energi terbarukan yang memiliki potensi besar untuk dikembangkan sebagai alternatif pemenuhan kebutuhan energi listrik yang ramah lingkungan. Salah satu teknologi yang terus dikembangkan adalah solar cell heterojunction berbasis Cu₂O/ZnO/FTO yang memanfaatkan kombinasi material semikonduktor tipe-p dan tipe-n untuk meningkatkan proses pemisahan serta transport pembawa muatan. Performa perangkat sangat dipengaruhi oleh kualitas lapisan penyusun yang dipengaruhi oleh parameter fabrikasi. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh variasi temperatur pemanasan substrat FTO dan konsentrasi larutan prekursor ZnO terhadap performa solar cell heterojunction Cu₂O/ZnO/FTO serta mengevaluasi efisiensi konversi energi yang dihasilkan. Lapisan ZnO dideposisikan menggunakan metode spray pyrolysis pada temperatur 425°C, 450°C, 475°C, dan 500°C dengan variasi konsentrasi larutan ZnO sebesar 0,3 M:0,03 M; 0,4 M:0,04 M; dan 0,5 M:0,05 M. Selanjutnya, lapisan Cu₂O dibentuk menggunakan metode electrodeposition sehingga diperoleh struktur heterojunction Cu₂O/ZnO/FTO. Karakterisasi dilakukan melalui pengukuran parameter keluaran listrik yang meliputi open-circuit voltage (Voc), short-circuit current (Isc), daya keluaran (P), power density (Parea), dan efisiensi konversi energi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa variasi temperatur pemanasan substrat dan konsentrasi larutan ZnO berpengaruh terhadap peningkatan karakteristik listrik solar cell. Kondisi optimum diperoleh pada konsentrasi ZnO 0,5 M:0,05 M dengan temperatur pemanasan 500°C yang menghasilkan nilai open-circuit voltage sebesar 120,5 mV, short-circuit current sebesar 145,8 mA, daya keluaran sebesar 17,57 mW, power density sebesar 0,234 mW/cm², dan efisiensi konversi energi sebesar 0,35%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan temperatur pemanasan substrat yang dipadukan dengan konsentrasi larutan prekursor ZnO yang tepat mampu menghasilkan lapisan ZnO dengan kualitas yang lebih baik sehingga meningkatkan performa solar cell heterojunction Cu₂O/ZnO/FTO.
