Abstract

Ambon banana peel contains antioxidants that are used to brighten and moisturize the skin. Antioxidant can delay and prevent free radicals on the skin. The purpose of this research was to make a sunscreen cream preparation from ethanol 70% extract of ambon banana peel with good physical quality, activity of antioxidant and Sun Protection Factor (SPF) and the stability of sunscreen cream. The antioxidant activity test used the DPPH method while determining of SPF value in vitro using a UV-Vis Spectrophotometer. The results of this research indicate that extract ethanol 70% of Ambon banana peel can be made sunscreen cream that has good physical quality. Antioxidant activity ethanol 70% extract from ambon banana peel with inhibition value of 88,12 ppm, while cream preparation of formula 1 (5%) the inhibition value was 117 ppm, formula 2 (10%) the inhibition value was 107,11 ppm, and formula 3 (15%) the inhibition value was 92,04 ppm. The SPF value of ethanol 70% extract Ambon banana peel was 33,30, in cream preparation formula 1(5%) was 8,61, formula 2 (10%) was 11,65, and formula 3 (15%) was 13,72. The stability of the cream preparation is stable at 25℃.

Abstract

Melanin is a substance that gives brown or blackish brown on the skin. Tyrosinase is the main enzyme in biosynthesis of melanin. Utilization of breadfruit leaves based chemical compounds therein such as flavonoids and tannins which are derivates of phenol.Then tested of tyrosinase inhibitory activity.The purpose of this study was to determine the power of inhibition of tyrosinase at ethanol extracts 70% and ethyl acetate extracts of leaves of breadfruit. Acquisition of extraction by maceration, subsequently evaporated by means of separation (rotary vacuum evaporator). Maserate were obtained for a each standard series of concentration 2000; 1000; 500; 250; 125; 62,5; 31,25; 15,63 ppm and kojic acid as positive control with concentration 500; 250; 125; 62,5; 31,25; 15,63 ppm, then each sample tested the inhibitory activity of tyrosinase.Based on the results of the study for the highest tyrosinase inhibitory activity shown by ethyl acetate extract of leaves of breadfruit, because it value smaller IC50 than ethanol extracts 70% of leaves ofbreadfruit. The value IC50 the ethyl acetate extract was 245,43 ppm, while the value IC50 the is 3143,21 ppm. However the activity of tyrosinase inhibition of ethanol extracts 70% and ethyl acetate extract of leaves of breadfruit was lower than kojic acid as positive control that has a value IC50 is 19,36 ppm, because the smaller the value IC50 The greater power inhibition of tyrosinase.

Abstract

Mangifera indica L. is a plant that has antibacterial activity. One of the plant‟s parts that has antibacterial activity on mango is the seed. Natural antibacterial content in the form of tannins contained in ethanol extract of Harum Manis mango seed is considered being effective towards Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, which are the main cause bacteria in diarrhea and other skin infections. The objective of this study is to obtain a good and effective formulation to remove Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureusbacteria in order to produce natural hand- made antiseptic gel preparations. The diameter of clear zone produced by gel preparation of hand sanitizer ethanol extract of mango seed on Escherichia coli bacteria with gel concentration of 2; 2.5 and 5% respectively - 10.86, 1.74, and 13.15 mm, while on a positive control, it is 7.47 mm. On the other hand, the diameter of clear zone in Staphylococcus aureus with gel concentration of 2; 2.5 and 5% respectively - 10.14, 10.58, and 12.83 mm, while on the positive control, it is 7.43 mm. Based on Anovaone way test followed by Duncan test show a significant difference (significant effect) between the concentration. It can be concluded that the preparation of 70% ethanol extract gel having antibacterial effectiveness towards Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus and effective gel preparation evaluation results are at 2,5% concentration

Abstract

High content of sitrulin can contribute to oxidative stress as a free radical scavenger. Plants from the Cucurbitaceae family are found in high quantities of Citrulline. One of Cucurbitaceae family is cantaloupe (Cucumis melo L.) The purpose of this study was to determine the antioxidant activity which is optimal in the flesh and rind cantaloupe against extraction methods. The method was used maceration with the ethanol and water, methods of digestion and decocta only with water solvent. The high antioxidant activity was shown by ethanol extract cantaloupe was rind maceration method (583.19 mg/L). In the water extract, rind maceration method of cantaloupe provides antioxidant activity (722.17 mg/L) were significantly different (P<0,05) than the water solvent digestion method and decocta method. However, the antioxidant activity of the flesh and rind extract from cantaloupe is lower than vitamin C.

Abstract

Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer suffered by women around the world. Breast cancer is known that has relationship with chronic inflammation that is controlled by cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). Pericarp of mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.) contains a class compound of xanthone. The compound has potential as an inhibitor of the COX-2enzyme.The purpose of this research is to know the most active compound of xanthone compounds. Potential of xanthone compounds tested the toxicityby using Toxtree, the analysis of toxicity is focused on the carcinogenycity and mutagenicity.The result of toxicity test of ligand compound with Toxtree software found that the compound of 1-Isomangostin hydrate, 3-Isomangostin hydrate, Euxanthon, BR-xanthone A,Garcimangosone B and Garcimangosone D predicted safe for use as medicine. Then the compound itself analyzed based on the criteria of Lipinski's Rule of Five to predict the drug absorption in the human body. The analysis showed,five compounds fulfilled the criteria of Lipinski except Garcimangosone D. Further analysis was molecular docking using Autodock VinaA had a binding energy (ΔG) the best that was -10.1 kcal / mol if it compared to other test compounds, approaching the binding energy (ΔG) comparative compound of celecoxib -12.4 kcal / mol.

Abstract

Ethanol extract 70% of bintaro leaves could inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Bintaro leaf extract (Cerbera odollam Gaertn) has chemical content of flavonoids, alkaloids and tannins. In this research was made preparation gel ethanol extract 70% from bintaro leaves (Cerbera odollam Gaertn.) and determine the formulation of gel preparation having good physical quality and have antibacterial effectivity. Physical quality tested such as homogeneity, organoleptic, viscosity, pH, spreadability, stability and antibacterial effectiveness test against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria using the disk diffusion method. The results showed that ethanol extract gel of 70% of bintaro leaves had good physical quality and best antibacterial effectiveness was found in Formulation III with 5% concentration. Based on one-way ANOVA analysis with Duncan assay, each formulation with different concentrations had a significant difference with α = 0.05.

Abstract

People often use medicinal plants as an alternative to healing the wound. Injuries are often experienced by the human body either intentionally or unintentionally. The cut is a wound caused by an incision of a sharp object, wood and so on. One of the herbs that is often used as a traditional drug therapy is a meniran leaf that can help wound healing. The aim of this research is to know the effect of thick leaf extract of meniran (Phyllanthus niruri Linn) in accelerating the healing time of the wound on Sprague-Dawley male white rat. Gravy leaf extract was obtained from infusa process with water solvent at temperature below 60oC for 15 minutes. This test was made by 6 groups with negative control (wound left), positive control (given betadine) and given the thickness of leaves leaves concentrate 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. Meniran leaf-thick extract wastopicallyadministered in four concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%, extracted with sterile gauze with 2 cm deep cuts and 0.2 cm depth on the lower rats. The results showed that from each treatment the concentration has the ability to heal the wound, but has different values. The conclusions of this study were the fastest meniran leaf extracts for healing wounds in Sprague-Dawley Sprague-white male rats were concentrations of 100% and 75%.

Abstract

Probiotic drink can be used as antihipercholesterolemia therapy. One potential ingredient for probiotic drink is papaya (Carica papaya L.) which can be fermented using lactic acid bacteria. The purpose of this research is to find out whether lactic acid mixed bacteria lactate acid bacterium formula Lactobacillus bulgaricus: Lactobacillus acidophilus : Streptococcus thermophilus with a ratio of 1: 1: 1 produced into probiotic papaya juice drink by fermentation can reduce total cholesterol levels in white rats (Rattus norvegicus) male Sprague Dawley strain. This research was conducted in Food Microbiology Laboratory of LIPI Biology Research Center. The papaya juice is fermented using a mixed culture formulation consisting of Lactobacillus bulgaricus: Lactobacillus acidophilus: Streptococcus thermophilus ;. Test animals were grouped into three groups: negative control, positive control and probiotic papaya juice, each group consisting of nine rats. The results showed that. After testing the total cholesterol reduction activity, it was found that probiotic papaya juice drink can reduce high cholesterol to normal with a decrease percentage of 17.51%. Probiotic papaya juice drinks can be applied to antihipercholesterolemia therapy in humans at doses of 55.56 ml per day.

Abstract

Data from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Nutrient database, that cantaloupe contains amino acids of 0.8 grams / 100 grams. One of the amino acids found in cantaloupe is citrulline which can contribute to oxidative stress as a free radical scavenger. The purpose of this study was to obtain the optimal content of citrulline compound in the flesh and skin of blewah to the method of extraction. The method used is the maceration method with ethanol and water solvent, digestion and dekokta method only with water solvent. Quantitatively, sitrulin is obtained by acid hydrolysis and is reacted with a specific reagent which is 3% diacetyl monoxime in a hot temperature. The reading of the result using the maximum wavelength spectrophotometer is 488 nm. The highest content of citrulline compound was shown by decocta method of aquatic leather water extract (7.72 g / 100g). The citrulline content was significantly different (P <0.05) on the difference in other extraction methods.

Abstract

Infeksi cacing usus yang utama disebabkan oleh cacing Ascaris lumbricoides, infeksi ini memiliki tingkat prevalensi cukup tinggi di Indonesia sehingga memerlukan pengobatan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antelmintik ekstrak etanol 96% daun sukun (Artocarpus altilis) terhadap cacing Ascaridia galli dengan berbagai konsentrasi ekstrak yaitu 5%, 10% dan 15%. Penelitian uji aktivitas antelmintik ini dibagi menjadi 3 kelompok perlakuan, Konsentrasi 5%, 10% dan 15% dari ekstrak etanol 96% merupakan kelompok perlakuan.Kelompok perlakuan kontrol positif dengan Pirantel pamoat 0,25% dan NaCl 0.9% merupakan kelompok kontrol negatif. Masing-masing kelompok perlakuan dilakukan dengan metode perendaman pada cacing Ascaridia galli. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa aktivitas antimiltik ekstrak etanol dengan konsentrasi 15 % dari daun sukun (Artocarpus altilis) lebih baik dari ekstrak daun sukun yang memiliki konsentrasi 5% dan 10%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan konsentrasi yang lebih besar dari ekstrak etanol daun sukun (Artocarpus altilis) akan menghasilkan aktivitas antelmintik yang lebih baik terhadap cacing Ascaridia galli, sktivitas yang lebih baik ini ditunjukkan dari data aktivitas pada konsentrasi i 5%, 10% dan 15%.
