Abstract

The purpose of this community service activity is to transfer knowledge and technology about artificial spawning of Mutiara Strain (Clarias gariepinus Burchell, 1822) to the Unggul Farm fish hatchery unit in Pangkalan Baru Village, Kec. Siak Hulu Regency. Kampar. This activity will be held on July 12 – August 12, 2021. The method used is direct demonstration and active participation. The spawning-stimulating hormone was Ovaprim with a dose of 0.5 ml/kg female broodstock and 0.3 ml/kg male broodstock. Artificial spawning, which is the process of removing eggs and sperm by stripping and surgery, so that the maximum number of eggs and sperm is obtained. Then fertilization is carried out, and then the eggs are incubated until they hatch which are called larvae. Artificial spawning produces larvae as many as 3 tanks with a size of 1 X 5.5 m. Natural spawning is carried out by the Unggul Farm fish hatchery unit each spawning period producing one larval tank with a size of 1 X 5.5 m. The benefits of artificial spawning are to increase the production of Mutiara strain seeds and improve the welfare of members of the Unggul Farm fish hatchery unit

Abstract

The Sail River is the position in the center of Pekanbaru City and is affected because of the tides. Urban pollution is a significant giver to the Sail River of water quality degradation. The study was conducted between June and August to assess estimation pollution load Sail River and pollution levels using the Pollution Index method. Water quality parameters measured are physical (temperature, TSS) and chemical (pH, dissolved oxygen, BOD, COD, Pb, oil and grease, nitrate, as well as phosphate). The results showed that the Sail River was classified as lightly polluted at high tide and low tide. The pollution index value at high tide is higher with a range of 3.65-3.92 than at low tide (2.93-3.39). TSS is the highest pollution load of the Sail River that a value of 1079.83 mg/second at high tide and 1075.29 mg/second at low tide. The lowest pollution load is oil and grease at low tide (0.47 mg/second). Thus, it is necessary to control the level of water pollution in the Sail River.

Abstract

Microplastics originated from degraded plastic materials that may be flown to water bodies and accidentally swallowed by aquatic organisms. The research aims to understand the microplastics in the water body in the Lubuk Siam lake and was conducted from September to November 2020. Samplings were conducted 3 times, once per month, in 3 sampling points. At each sampling point, 100 L of water was taken and filtered using a plankton net (30 µm mesh size). To obtain the microplastics, the filtered water was again filtered using   Whatman filter paper No.42, and the type of microplastics was identified using a binocular microscope. Results show the types of microplastics found in the water namely fibers, films, and fragments. The microplastic density was (10 fibers/m3), (93 films/m3) and (40 fragments/m3) in the water. Data obtained indicate that the most common type of microplastic found in the waters was film.

Abstract

The Sosa River in Padang Lawas, North Sumatra, is facing pollution from domestic waste and industrial activities. Its water quality has declined, with a Water Quality Index of 58.75% in 2022, indicating a moderate condition. The community directly disposes of waste into the river, exacerbating the ecosystem's deterioration. This study aims to evaluate and analyze the water quality conditions of the Sosa River and the social and economic activities of the Padang Lawas community, determine the pollution load and water quality status. he existing condition of the Sosa River water quality still has several parameters that exceed the quality standards in accordance with applicable regulations. The Sosa River water quality status at the research location is classified as meeting quality standards to moderately polluted. The location that has a moderate pollutant index is point 2 of the Sosa River tributary  (representing the outfall of the Sosa River tributary in Aliaga Village). while other research locations are classified as lightly polluted and some meet quality standards.
