Abstract

Ginger extract are known to have antiinflamatory effect at a dose of 200 mg. In order to be applied to the skin, ginger extract must be formulated into stable emulgel. This study aims to formulate and evaluate the physical stability of emulgel from ginger extract using carbomer® 940 as gelling agent with concentration variation 0,5%, 1%, 1,5% and 2%. Physical stability evaluation was conducted including organoleptic test, pH, spreading test, adhesion test and viscosity test. From the research result it is obtained yellow and distinctive odor of emulgel. pH of all emulgel formula were 6. Adhesion test result of formula 5, 6, 7, 8 were 00.63, 19.03, 50.84 and 60.50 respectively. Spreading test result from formula 5, 6, 7, 8 were 5,725, 4,875, 4,325 and 3,85 respectively. Viscosity test result were 2.200, 3.720, 4.000 and 7.720 for formula 5, 6, 7 and 8 respectively. According to paired sample T-test there was not significant differences between formula on pH test, viscosity test, adhesion test (p>0,05), before and after accelerated storage condition. In spreading test result showed a significant difference 0,000 (0<0,05) before and after accelerated storage condition.

Abstract

Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. is a plant suspected to have affect the motility of sperms. This research aims to know the effect of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. in motility of sperms as well as to get information about the dose of ethanol extract of this plant having activity in motility of sperms male mice. The animals were divided into 4 groups according to the dose administered to each group i.e 10 mg/20 g mice, 25 mg/20 g mice, 50 mg/20 g mice and control, respectively. The treatments were conducted for 10 days where each treatment group had 3 replication. The animals were then dissected and cement fluid located in vas deferens was collected. The motility of sperms was observed under microscope. Based on the results analyzed by statistical analysis showed that ethanol extract of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. to have affect the motility of sperms at dose 50 mg/20 g mice and gives significantly different result compared to negative control.

Abstract

The research about the effects of sodium alginate as the polymer to found a stable physical characteristic of microparticles of mulberry leaves (Morus alba L) has been conducted. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Na.alginate as the polymer to the physical characteristics of microparticles of M.alba. In this research, the formulation M. alba leaves in the form of microparticles in which the sodium alginate as a polymer with cross connector CaCl2. Microparticles with an ionic gelation method by dispersing mulberry leaf-sodium alginate into a solution of CaCl2. Formula microparticles made with mulberry leaves concentration ratio of sodium alginate (1: 1); (1: 1.5), and (1: 2). Microparticles characterized physically by the size, shape, and appearance by using SEM (scanning electron microscopy), and the adsorption efficiency. The yield on mulberry leaves microparticles obtained are not spherical morphology SEM and entrapment efficiency data cannot be calculated.

Abstract

The extract of kersen leaves (Muntingia calabura L) contains flavanoid compounds as polar antioxidants which have difficulty to diffuse through the skin. Solid lipid microparticle is a drug delivery system to improve the availability of water-soluble compounds at site of action. The aim of this study was to determine diffusion profile and irritant effect of solid lipid microparticle cream loaded ethanol extract of kersen leaves. Diffusion of solid lipid microparticle cream loaded ethanol extract of kersen leaves was carried out using Whatman no.1 membrane and circumcision by franz diffusion methods while irritation test was performed on Albino rabbits (Orytoglagus cuniculus). The results of showed profil using Whatman membrane No. 1 are better than circumcision and the irritation test results the cream do not cause irritating effects on the skin.

Abstract

Daun Pare (Momordica charantia L.) mempunyai kandungan flavanoid yang memiliki potensi sebagai obat penurun panas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memformulasi sediaan patch ekstrak daun Pare (Momordicacharantia L.) dan menguji efektivitasnya sebagai antipiretik. Pembuatan sediaan patch menggunakan basis HPMC dan PVP dengan metode penguapan pelarut (solvent evaporation casting). Metode pengujian efek antipiretik yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini adalah induksi pepton 5% sebanyak 1 ml secara subkutan. Karakteristik sediaan didapat dari evaluasi meliputi uji organoleptik, uji keseragaman bobot, uji ketahanan lipatan, uji ketebalan dan uji susut pengeringan. Hasil uji efektivitas diperoleh pada konsentrasi 1% dengan penurunan suhu yang optimal pada menit 90 dan 120.

Abstract

Mesokarp buah semangka adalah lapisan kulit semangka antara endokarp dan mesokarp berwarna putih yang memiliki banyak kandungan senyawa, salah satunya adalah flavonoid yang dapat berperan sebagai antioksidan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui potensi antioksidan ekstrak etanol mesokarp buah semangka dengan melihat nilai IC50. Mesokarp buah semangka diekstraksi dengan cara maserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol 70%. Hasil uji aktivitas antioksidan menggunakan metode ABTS (2,2-azinobis-(3-etilbenzotiazolin-6-sulfonic acid) menunjukkan aktivitas antioksidan sangat kuat dengan nilai IC50 31,42 µg/ml. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa mesokarp buah semangka memiliki aktivitas antioksidan dengan kategori sangat kuat terhadap radikal bebas ABTS.

Abstract

Kulit buah jeruk nipis (Citrus aurantifolia Swingle.), jeruk purut (Citrus hystrix D.C.), jeruk manis (Citrus sinensis L.) mengandung senyawa flavonoid dan vitamin C yang dapat menangkal radikal bebas sehingga mencegah penuaan dini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan aktivitas penghambatan radikal bebas dari ekstrak etanol kulit buah jeruk nipis, jeruk purut, jeruk manis, dan memformulasinya dalam bentuk sediaan krim. Pada penelitian ini ekstrak kulit jeruk nipis, jeruk purut, jeruk manis diuji aktivitas penghambatan radikal bebas dan diformulasi menjadi sediaan krim dengan variasi konsentrasi (tween 80- span 80) sebanyak (1%, 2%, 3%). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak kulit buah jeruk nipis, dapat menghambat radikal bebas pada konsentrasi (IC50) 240 bpj, ekstrak kulit jeruk purut (IC50) 210 bpj, ekstrak kulit jeruk manis (IC50) 133 bpj, dan kombinasi ekstrak (IC50) 67 bpj. Ekstrak kombinasi selanjutnya diformulasi dalam bentuk krim dan diperoleh hasil bahwa semua formula krim memenuhi persyaratan kestabilan dan formula optimum adalah formula I.

Abstract

Ekstrak herba pegagan (Centella asiatica L. Urb) mengandung asiaticoside yang berperan dalam proses penyembuhan luka bakar. Penggunaan ekstrak secara langsung dinilai kurang menarik sehingga perlu diformulasi dalam bentuk gel. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan formula gel ekstrak etanol herba pegagan yang stabil dan efektif terhadap penyembuhan luka bakar. Gel dibuat dalam empat formula dengan konsentrasi karbopol 940 yang berbeda 0.5 %, 1% 1,5% dan 2%. Evaluasi gel meliputi uji organoleptik, homogenitas, pH, daya sebar, daya lekat dan viskositas. Hasil uji stabilitas menunjukkan formula gel yang stabil adalah F2. Hasil uji efektivitas gel dengan menggunakan F2 efektif terhadap penyembuhan luka bakar, proses terjadi selama 19 hari dengan persentase kesembuhan 96,5%.

Abstract

Chitosan has the potential to be used as an antimicrobial agent, as it contains the enzyme lysozyme and aminopolisakarida groups which can inhibit the growth of microbes. Physical modification of chitosan in the form of nanoparticles add value to chitosan as an antimicrobial material. In this research, anti-acne cream was formulated by using nanoparticles chitosan with variations emulsifier  that are Novemer®, Span-Tween, and Viscolam®. The cream  then evaluated for physical stability include kriming volume, the thickness (viscosity), drops dispersed, and phase inversion before and after accelerated storage conditions. Then, test of antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acne was performed. The results showed that the three creams were physically stable during storage. Formula cream with tween span emulsifier (FII) showed the greatest inhibition against Propionibacterium acne with a diameter of 13.46 mm zone of inhibition.

Abstract

Fitosom merupakan salah satu sistem penghantaran topikal dermal yang dapat menembus barrier stratum korneum kulit dan memiliki daya absorbsi optimal. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan formulasi sediaan krim dari fitosom ekstrak daun murbei (Morus alba L) dengan variasi konsentrasi emulgator sobitan 60 dan polisorbat 60 pada konsentrasi 2%,3%, dan 4% dan dilakukan evaluasi kestabilan fisik meliputi uji penyimpanan dipercepat, organoleptis, tipe emulsi, pH, viskositas, uji daya sebar, dan uji daya lekat. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa ketiga krim fitosom stabil secara fisik dan formula optimum untuk krim fitosom adalah formula dengan konsentrasi emulgator 4% ditinjau dari uji viskositas,daya sebar, dan daya lekat.
