Abstract

This research focuses on the legitimacy of Donald Trump’s speech in declaring Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel on December 2017. This research aims to: (1) identify the text structure of the speech, (2) describe the social cognition of this speech, (3) and to reveal the social context of this speech. The compiled data is analyzed by using Van Dijk’s CDA theory of socio-cognitive (1988). This theory has interrelated three dimensions of analysis consisting of text structure, social cognition, and social context. The method of this research is qualitative by using the descriptive analysis. The data source of this research is the speech text of Donald Trump declaration speech of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital on December 2017. The result of this research shows that there is semantic aspect (microstructure) used by Donald Trump: Background (7), Detail (4), and Presupposition (15). From the analysis, the researcher argues that Donald Trump tends to be pro-Israel. This is supported in the structure of the text by how it consistently uses direct language to influence the emotional attachment of the intended by using logical facts and emotional involvement to make negative out-group representations to get positive representations to them and their allies. Furthermore, social cognition reveals the ideology and partisanship of Donald Trump about this conflict. It can be identified clearly by correlating the context of this speech to something that related to Israel-Palestine conflict. In social cognition, as the president of the United States of America, Donald Trump has a massive influence to the international world, even though it caused pros and contras for all elements of society. Possible further research about critical discourse analysis can be conducted by analyzing other issues. In short, it is also a suggestion to the other researchers to investigate more variation data such as news, advertisement, movie, and so on

Abstract

This article explain about Planning the Instructional Program for the teachers of elementary School, especially English teacher. The purpose of this program is for giving procedure genre matter with topic on food. The functional grammar focused on discourse analyze, in where every discourse has genre. This discourse can be introduced to the beginner students of foreign language. In this case, English is instructed with appropriate method and model. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis kesalahan linguistik dan tahap-tahap kesalahan apa yang dibuat oleh para mahasiswa semester 1 Program Studi Sastra Inggris, Jurusan Ilmu Budaya, FISIP, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman Purwokerto dalam hal keahlian menulis bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori dari Politzer dan Ramirez, Burt dan Kiparsky tentang Linguistic Category Taxonomy untuk menganalisa jenis-jenis kesalahan linguistik serta menggunakan teori Comparative Taxonomy untuk membahas tahap-tahap kesalahan yang dibuat oleh para mahasiswa dalam tulisan mereka. Ada 10 tulisan mahasiswa yang dijadikan sampel penelitian dengan metode pengambilan sampel purposif dan penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif untuk menjabarkan hasil penelitian. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kesalahan mahasiswa dalam tulisan mereka ada 142 jenis kesalahan yang 132 diantaranya masuk dalam kategori yang dinyatakan dalam Linguistix Category Taxonomy oleh Politzer dan Ramirez; Burt dan Kiparsky, sedangkan 10 yang lain termasuk jenis kesalahan yang tidak ada dalam kategori diatas. Berdasarkan teori Comparative Taxonomy, developmental error adalah tahap kesalahan terbesar yang dibuat oleh para mahasiswa.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between the competence of English teachers and the learning achievement of high school students in Purwokerto. Teacher competence is one of the main supporting things in achieving educational goals. Furthermore, student achievement becomes a barometer of achievement of educational goals as seen from the scores of the National English Test. Seeing these facts, this study tries to find a relationship between teacher competence and student achievement. Researchers used descriptive analysis techniques and simple regression techniques. Descriptive analysis is used to explain teacher competence through answers to the questionnaire was given and simple regression analysis is used to examine the relationship between the competence of English teachers and student achievement. In addition, the items in the questionnaire were also tested for their validity and reliability. Based on the findings, H1 is rejected, so it can be concluded that teacher competence does not have a significant positive influence on student achievement.

Abstract

This is a descriptive qualitative research aiming at exploring the use of mobile apps to promote autonomous learning for students of English Education study program in Syntax subject. Syntax is given in the fourth semester and the lesson objective is students are able to analyze sentence construction in their correct structures. There are three mobile apps used namely Quizlet, Socrative, and Sli.do. They are used randomly based on certain subtopic in the semester. Purposive sampling is applied for data collection. The data are then analyzed using content based analysis. It is found out that the use of mobile apps is able to promote students’ autonomous learning since they are eager to dig more and learn further to find materials for their subject namely Syntax. They are challenged to find answers to some problems given by the lecturer. They become more creative in presenting ideas as well as doing tree diagram analysis on sentence constructions.

Abstract

This study is entitled “Students’ Perception on Quizizz as Digital Game-Based Learning Tool for Formative Assessments (A Study at the Tenth Grade of SMK Negeri 1 Wanareja in the Academic Year of 2021/2022)”. The study aimed at knowing how students’ perception on Quizizz as Digital Game-Based Learning tool and how Quizizz used for formative assessment. This research used a qualitative descriptive design. The subject of this research was the tenth-grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Wanareja in the academic year of 2021/2022. The population was 609 students divided into 17 classes consisted of 7 majors. The samples of this research were 150 students that were taken randomly from all classes. The data were collected using questionnaire, interview and document. Method triangulation was used as data validation technique. The result of this research showed that students gave positive responses on Quizizz as Digital Game-Based Learning tool dealing with students’ learning and engagement, rules and goals, clear outcomes and immediate feedback, and also students’ interaction. They also gave positive responses on Quizizz used for formative assessment in English class. Furthermore, the activities on Quizizz elicited evidence of learning, provided feedback as well as allowed students to own their learning.Keywords: students’ perception, Quizizz, Digital Game-Based Learning, formative assessment

Abstract

The program of Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka – Independent Learning, Independent Campus (MBKM) has been launched to equip the students with the skills and knowledge needed in professional settings. Kampus Mengajar, one of the programs in MBKM, allows the students to learn and contribute as teachers at schools. The study aims at evaluating the implementation of Kampus Mengajar as a part of MBKM in English Education Program at Universitas Jenderal Soedirman. The study employed both quantitative and qualitative approarch. Questionnaires and interviews were administered to the students who have joined the program of Kampus Mengajar to explore the students’ perceptions on the implementation of the program and how the program can benefit them as students majoring in English education. The result obtained from the study indicate that the implementation of Kampus Mengajar not only help and facilitate the students with the knowledge and skills needed to be teachers but also promote the concept of autonomous learning. Abstract

This research explores the implementation of problem-based learning (PBL), aspects of PBL, and teacher’s and students’ perceptions about PBL. This research was conducted at SMA Negeri 2 Cilacap, taking 34 tenth grade students as the sample from X IPS 1 and an English teacher as a participant. The data were collected using observation, questionnaires, and interviews. The data were analysed using Miles and Huberman’s (1984) four types of analytical activity and presented descriptively. The result shows that the implementation of PBL in on the chosen sample is in line with the stages of PBL implementation entailing: 1) the teacher organizes the students to a problem, 2) the teacher organizes the students to learn, 3) the teacher as the participant helps the independent inquiry and groups, 4) the teacher helps the students develop and present the work, and 5) the teacher analyses and evaluates the problem-solving process. Then, the analysis of the aspects of PBL suggests such things as 1) the problem as the point in PBL, 2) the students’ discussion activities, 3) the teacher’s help in students’ discussion, 4) the students’ activeness, and 5) the teacher’s and students’ perception about PBL in reading skill. The teacher positively thinks that the materials in reading skills match with the PBL teaching model. It was found that PBL leads the students to discuss and train their activeness, ability to learn to solve problems, share ideas, and work cooperatively in a group. Another finding also denotes that they think that PBL is one interesting model which can support them to understand the text, because students can get insight from their friends and their teacher when having discussion.

Abstract

Pokdarwis Wayang Sakti desa Salamerta kecamatan mandiraja, merupakan unsur penggerak wisata olahraga. Pada masa sekolah sudah menerapkan pembelajaran normal, banyak penggemar sepeda gunung, mulai mencoba trek di bukit Rumpit Desa Salamerta. Permasalahan yang dihadapi;1) Belum adanya pelatihan untuk bisa membangun kerjasama tim, 2) Banyak pengunjung yang menginginkan adanya paket outbound, agar bisa menikmati objek wisata lebih lama. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian ini agar anggota pokdarwis pengetahuan dan keterampilannya meningkat, dalam optimalisasi peran dan team building games. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan, yaitu dengan ceramah, diskusi, pelatihan dan pendampingan. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh 24 anggota kelompok sadar wisata. Hasil dari kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa pengetahuan dan keterampilan tentang peran dan team building games. Ada peningkatan berdasarakan data hasil pre test dan post tes. Dengan Uji Paired Sampel T-Test, dapat dilihat bahwa nilai Sig.(2-tailed) <0.05. Kesimpulannya adalah anggota kelompok sadar wisata, dapat melanjutkan kegiatan dan mengasah pengetahuan dan keterampilan, dalam tentang peran dan team building games di desa salamerta kecamatan mandiraja, agar dalam melayani pengunjung pesepeda gunung dapat lebih nyaman dan menyenangkan.
