Abstract

In order to be fluent in English, writing is one of skills that should be mastered by students. To assist and facilitate students in enhancing their writing skills, teachers need to create interesting and captivating activities. Unlike adolescences and adults, teaching writing for primary students is more challenging because at the elementary school stage students' writing ability is still at the elementary level. Additionally, teachers need to have creative for classroom activities. This qualitative study aims to explore classroom activities used by EFL primary school teachers in teaching writing and discuss what aspects of the skill that they focused on in teaching writing. For data collection techniques, the researcher interviewed five EFL teachers from five different elementary schools. The participants in this research had teaching elementary school students more than 5 years. The interviews were conducted through WhatsApp chat because the situation does not support conducting direct interviews during a pandemic. After the data obtained, transcribed, member checked, interpreted, and coded, the findings showed activities implemented to teach writing to elementary students preferred by the participants. The data in this study indicate that the activities used by the teacher to teach writing are simple activities like describing picture, free writing, and completing story. In addition, this study also reveals the purpose of teachers in teaching writing to elementary school students like a teacher wants to foster students’ love for writing. The results in this study indicate that in teaching writing to elementary school students, teachers need appropriate activities, so that the learning objectives can be achieved through these activities.

Abstract

Online collaborative learning (OCL) provides students’ communication by gathering with their group to achieve the course’s goals that students have been facing in the Covid-19 pandemic together through online. OCL is the way out to solve the problem when the current circumstances do not allow holding offline group discussions for students. Eventually, there are many benefits that students have been faced by doing OCL during this current situation. Therefore, the researcher wants to investigate the benefits of OCL according to students’ points of view. Descriptive qualitative research was designed for this research to answer the research question by digging deeper into participants’ answers by using interview for collecting the data. The findings of this research showed three benefits of OCL based on students’ points of view. Some students have the flexibility of time and place to hold OCL; students can enhance their technology capability; students can increase their socio-emotional through holding OCL. To sum up, the researcher would inform about the benefits that students and teachers have to be aware more about OCL especially during the Covid-19 pandemic eventually and to support other researchers to arise the same topic.

Abstract

Salah satu daerah pariwisata yang sedang berkembang di Jawa Tengah adalah Kabupaten Kebumen. Namun, ada beberapa problematika terkait pengembangan wisata tersebut, salah satunya adalah aksesibilitas. Permasalahan aksesibilitas merupakan hal pokok yang menyebabkan wisatawan kesulitan untuk mengunjungi lokasi wisata di Kabupaten Kebumen. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut, diperlukan kajian terhadap kebutuhan angkutan wisata, seperti halnya pemilihan rute angkutan wisata. Metode penelitian dilakukan dengan pemilihan moda secara sederhana dengan menggunakan metode pembebanan pemilihan rute All or Nothing Assignment. Berdasarkan hasil analisis Matriks Asal Tujuan (MAT), sebanyak 89,55% wisatawan di Kabupaten Kebumen bersedia untuk memilih angkutan wisata sebagai moda transportasi menuju lokasi wisata. Hal ini dikarenakan pertimbangan faktor biaya dan kenyamanan. Terdapat 3 alternatif rute angkutan wisata terpilih yang memiliki jarak tempuh lebih dekat dan optimal dari segi biaya dan waktu untuk distribusi. Rute tersebut adalah A dengan jarak tempuh 49,6 km, rute B sejauh 32,80 km, dan rute C dengan jarak 51,40 km.

Abstract

ABSTRAK. Konsep merupakan hal abstrak yang mengiringi kebutuhan ruang dalam desain arsitektur. Sebuah karya arsitektur merupakan perwujudan dari kebutuhan ruang, tipologi bangunan, dan konsep yang mendasarinya. Konsep yang melekat pada karya arsitektur juga membuat bangunan lebih unik dan menarik. Salah satu konsep yang dikaji pada penelitian ini adalah konsep arsitektur industrial. Konsep arsitektur industrial merupakan konsep yang sedang banyak digemari terutama oleh kalangan muda. Bangunan yang dijadikan kasus penelitian adalah bangunan hotel yang terletak di Yogyakarta. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan tujuan penelitian untuk mengidentifikasi, mendeskripsikan, dan menafsirkan penerapan arsitektur industrial pada bangunan hotel. Analisis dilakukan terhadap data yang didapatkan dari observasi lapangan dan studi literatur. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah penerapan konsep arsitektur industrial pada hotel ditinjau dari 4 hal yaitu bentuk dasar, penggunaan material, penggunaan warna, dan ekspos utilitas. Bentuk dasar yang digunakan adalah bentuk geometri, selain sesuai dengan konsep industrial juga fungsional untuk kamar hotel dan fasilitas lainnya. Material yang digunakan diperlihatkan sesuai aslinya seperti dinding warna abu-abu dari acian, warna yang digunakan adalah warna alami dan monokrom, terutama abu-abu. Utilitas pada beberapa ruangan diekspos dan menjadi penunjang estetika. Kata Kunci: konsep arsitektur, industrial, bangunan hotel. ABSTRACT. Concepts are abstract things that accompany space requirements in architectural design. An architectural work is a manifestation of space requirements, building typology, and the underlying concept. The concepts attached to architectural works also make buildings more unique and interesting. One of the concepts studied in this research is the concept of industrial architecture. The concept of industrial architecture is a concept that is currently popular, especially among young people. The building used as a research case is a hotel building located in Yogyakarta. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with the research objective of identifying, describing and interpreting the application of industrial architecture in hotel buildings. Analysis was carried out on data obtained from field observations and literature studies. The result of this research is the application of the industrial architecture concept to hotels in terms of 4 things, namely basic form, use of materials, use of color, and exposure to utilities. The basic shape used is a geometric shape, apart from being in accordance with the industrial concept, it is also functional for hotel rooms and other facilities. The materials used are shown as original, such as the gray walls of the plaster, the colors used are natural and monochrome, especially grey. The utilities in several rooms are exposed and support the aesthetics. Keywords: architectural concept, industrial, hotel building.

Abstract

Pengoperasian bus Trans Jateng rute Purworejo – Magelang merupakan upaya pemerintah dalam mendukung pariwisata pada Kawasan Strategis Pariwisata Nasional Candi Borobudur serta proses mobilitas masyarakatnya. Namun, dalam pelaksanaan operasional dan fasilitasnya bus Trans Jateng rute Purworejo - Magelang masih dalam kondisi yang kurang memadai serta headway setiap bus cukup lama sehingga mengakibatkan lamanya waktu tunggu bagi penumpang bus Trans Jateng. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis kinerja serta menganalisis tingkat kepuasan pengguna jasa terhadap kinerja bus Trans Jateng rute Purworejo – Magelang. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode analisis kuantitatif. Analisis dilakukan berdasarkan Keputusan Direktur Jenderal Perhubungan Darat Nomor SK.687/AJ.206/DRJD/2002, dan metode Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) untuk menganalisis tingkat kepuasan pengguna jasa. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, terdapat beberapa indikator yang belum memenuhi standar, seperti faktor muat, waktu antara, waktu tunggu, dan jarak antar halte. Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan metode CSI adalah sebesar 82,293% dengan kriteria sangat puas. Berdasarkan hasil pengamatan di lapangan, perlu dilakukan peningkatan pembangunan sarana dan prasarana yang berkelanjutan guna meningkatkan branding bus Trans Jateng kepada masyarakat.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the Mind Mapping learning model on the academic performance of fifth-grade students at SDN 101742 Hamparan Perak. The research focuses on comparing the effectiveness of the Mind Mapping model used in the experimental class with the conventional learning model applied in the control class. The study involved a total of 62 students, with 33 students in class Va and 29 students in class Vb. A quasi-experimental design was employed, and the data were analyzed using the Polled Variance formula. The results indicated a significant difference in student learning outcomes between the two groups. The t-count value was 6.121, which is greater than the t-table value of 1.67 at a 5% significance level, leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis (Ho) and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha). Additionally, the N-Gain value of 0.49 demonstrates a medium improvement in learning outcomes for the experimental group, confirming the effectiveness of the Mind Mapping model compared to the conventional approach.

Abstract

In the classroom, it is normal for teachers to deliver questions to specific students or the entire class. To encourage classroom interaction, various question types are employed to help students develop their critical thinking skills and communicate effectively in real-world situations. This study analyzed teaching question strategies applied by EFL teachers and how they employed the strategies in their classrooms. The descriptive qualitative method was selected, involving three female English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers in one high school in Indonesia. Observations in different classes and interviews were conducted to gain the data. The results revealed nine types of questioning techniques according to Bloom taxonomy that the teachers actively implemented: 1) knowledge questioning technique, 2) comprehension questioning technique, 3) application questioning technique, 4) analysis questioning technique, 5) synthesis questioning technique, 6) evaluation questioning technique, 7) convergent questioning technique, 8) divergent questioning technique, and 9) procedural questioning technique. The teachers' application of questioning techniques was also discussed, according to the function of each strategy. EFL teachers can employ various questioning techniques to effectively manage classrooms and establish and sustain efficient teaching and learning processes. Questioning techniques positively impact students’ learning outcomes by encouraging students to engage actively, so they understand and retain the material well.

Abstract

The social phenomenon of urban communities that are prone to individualism influences low social awareness. Rukti Jenazah as an activity that captures the manifestation of social and cultural values in society is starting to be rarely found in urban communities. Generally, they rely on third party services for corpse care rather than doing it collectively. This shows that community activities that require a sense of social awareness face real challenges in an era where human relationships are starting to grow distant. This certainly needs to be a concern for all parties. By involving 26 members of the organization as participants, the activity was carried out in three stages, namely input session, discussions, and direct practice with media that had been prepared by the community service team. The series of activities went smoothly and proved successful in increasing participants' understanding of the attitude of social awareness and how it is manifested through this activity. This was shown through the average post-test score (49.69) which was higher than the average pre-test score (44.31). The average understanding of participants increased by 5.38 points. This is the basis for Branch Manager of Muhammadiyah Notoyudan to develop and expand the Rukti Jenazah training program as a sustainable strategy in increasing social awareness and solidarity between residents, as well as a model that can be applied in other areas with similar problems.

Abstract

The Indonesian national curriculum encourages higher education stakeholders to provide an internship program to increase students’ employability. In the field of education, an internship comes in the form of a teaching practicum where all interns or prospective teachers get hands-on experience in schools to develop the characteristics of effective teachers. To identify areas for improvement in the running program, gathering insights from those involved is necessary. The current case study details how the internship program facilitates effective teaching for prospective teachers. This research also discussed recommendations from involved parties to obtain reliable references to improve the program. The data were collected by interviewing four prospective teachers, two university supervisors, and two mentor teachers. This study used transcribing, member checking, and coding to analyze the interview results. The data revealed that the four steps in the program, i.e., deployment, observation, coaching, and teaching practices, helped the prospective teachers to build a robust construct of effective teachers, including socio-affective skills, pedagogical competence, content knowledge, and personal qualities. Additionally, the findings demonstrated the participants’ suggestions related to several technical issues of the program and recommendations to the prospective teachers regarding what they should do in joining the program. Regardless rooms of improvements that the program should follow-up, all participants agree to say that the practice teaching facilitates prospective English teachers to develop competencies of being an effective teacher.
