Abstract

This research analyzes the multiple intelligences in English Foreign Language (EFL), especially in 8A grade students. It identifies the multiple intelligences profile based on the frequency of multiple intelligence (MI) types, students' high and low scores. This research uses a descriptive quantitative design. The subject of this research was 8A grade students in SMP Muhammadiyah 15 Surabaya. The research instruments were the Multiple Intelligences questionnaire, IQ results, and documentation of English mid-test scores in the second semester. From analysis and discussion, it was found that this class's IQ score average is 86, and the most dominant intelligence type is musical. For the five highest score students,' there were four types of intelligence that they had. They were interpersonal, naturalist, logical-mathematical, and musical. Meanwhile, five low English achievers had four types of multiple intelligence: musical, interpersonal, naturalist, and visual-spatial. In conclusion, the class has diversity in multiple intelligence. Multiple Intelligence types cannot refer to a certain group, in this case, groups based on their English score, because some MI types can be found in the high and low English achiever groups.

Abstract

There are four main skills in learning English, writing, listening, reading, and speaking. In this research, the researcher focused on writing narrative text for tenth grader students of SMK PGRI 13 Surabaya. The medium that is used in this research is webtoon. It is kind of comic series which has picture and narration so it can be make the students learn how to write narrative text easier. The purpose of this research is to find out the effectiveness of webtoon in developing students’ writing skill in narrative text. The researcher used quantitative method and the data were collected through pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire. The researcher used two classes, experimental class and control class to do this research. After the data were collected and calculated, the result showed that the average of score got an increasing. Before getting treatment, the average score of experimental class was 55 and after getting treatment, the average score was becoming 69. Furthermore, based on the students’ response, it showed that mostly the students agreed that webtoon is useful to use in learning English, especially writing skill so webtoon can be effective to develop students’ writing skill in narrative text.

Abstract

Reciprocal Teaching Strategy has proven as a good method in increasing students reading comprehension. This method has been applied in teaching in elementary school students, ESL (English as Second Language) and EFL (English as Foreign Language) contexts. The researcher doing a research about the implementation of Reciprocal Teaching Strategy to increase students reading comprehension. The objective of this  research is to find out whether Reciprocal Teaching Strategy is Effective in Increasing Students Reading Comprehension in Narrative Text and to know how Reciprocal Teaching Strategy enhance students’ reading comprehension in narrative text. This research use a quantitative method Quasi Experimental Design. The data is analyzed by the researcher using SPSS and Microsoft Excel. The subject are eighth grade one of the State Junior High School of Surabaya. This research done for about one month from 20th January until 22nd February 2018. Reciprocal Teaching Strategy has 4 steps in it, such as: Predicting, Questioning, Clarifying, and Summarizing. This strategy is effective for students’ cognitive process in reading that prevent from failure and the result showed Reciprocal Teaching is Effective In Reading Narrative Text, it can be seen from the significant improvement of students score of pretest to post test.
