Abstract

To investigate its ability, graphite material was characterized by X-Ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer (FTIR), Thermo Gravimetry Differential Thermal Analyse (TG-DTA), and Brunauer Emmet Teller (BET). Adsorption capability was evaluated by using Congo Red dye and Direct Orange dye solutions. The experiment was studied by using kinetic, isotherm, and thermodynamic parameters. The result of XRD characterization showed that graphite has four characteristic peaks which are 26,405?(002), 44,50?(101), 54,45?(004), and 77,32?(006). FT-IR characterization showed that the vibration at 3402 cm-1, 1635 cm-1, and 1381 cm-1. TG-DTA analysis showed that graphite has only one decomposition peak at 760 oC. BET analysis showed that the surface area of graphite was 11,558 m2/g. The optimum pH of CR and DO dyes were in pH 6 and pH 2 with contact time of 120 minutes.  Kinetic adsorption model of CR and DO dye onto graphite follow pseudo-second-order model with a liner regression coefficient close to one. Isotherm parameter of CR and DO adsorption onto graphite follow Langmuir isotherm model with spontaneous endothermic process. The desorption process of graphite was used HCl to remove the dyes.  Regeneration process of graphite showed that the capacity of adsorption decreased after it was reused 3 times.

Abstract

Synthesis and preparation of polyoxometalate H4[α-SiW12O40].nH2O with Zr as support at various weights of Zr 0.01g; 0.05 g; 0.25 g; 0.5 g; 0.75 g; 1 g and 1.25 g to form H4[α- SiW12O40]/Zr was conducted. The compounds from preparation were characterized using FTIR spectroscopy and crystallinity analysis using X-Ray diffraction. Thus H4[α- SiW12O40]/Zr was applied as catalyst for oxidation of cyclohexane to cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone. Oxidation process was studied through reaction time, hydrogen peroxide amount, temperature, and weight of catalyst. FTIR spectrum of H4[α-SiW12O40]/Zr was appeared at wavenumber 771.53-979.84 cm-1 and Zr at 486.06-1481.33 cm-1. Diffraction pattern of H4[α-SiW12O40]/Zr showed that high crystallinity was identified at 2θ 8o-10o and 28.3o. Based on FTIR spectrum and XRD powder pattern, the optimum preparation of H4[α-SiW12O40]/Zr was obtained using 0.5 g of Zr. The catalytic study of cyclohexane using H4[α-SiW12O40]/Zr at 0.5 g of Zr resulted conversion about 99.73%. Catalyst can convert cyclohexane with the highest conversion then used for further deep catalytic investigation. Optimization of oxidation process resulted optimum reaction time at 2 h, 3 mL of hydrogen peroxide amount, 80 oC of temperature, and 0.038 g of catalyst. The GCMS analysis indicated the oxidation of cyclohexane using H4[α-SiW12O40]/Zr at 0.5 g of Zr formed cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone with selectivity 18.77 and 23.57, respectively.

Abstract

Zn/Al and Zn/Fe layered double hydroxides has successfully synthesized by co-precipitation methods with molar ration 3:1. The samples were characterized using X-Ray Diffraction, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy and Surface Area using BET method. In this study, Zn/Al and Zn/Fe layered double hydroxides were used to remove direct yellow dye in aqueous solution. The experiments were carried out time variations with the aim of observing the kinetic studies. The results showed that the adsorption of direct yellow onto Zn/Al and Zn/Fe layered double hydroxides based on co-efficient correlation kinetic models more fit using pseudo-second-order than pseudo-first-order.

Abstract

Thermal decomposition of calcium oxide from chicken’s (Gallus gallus domesticus) and goat’s (Capra Hircus Aegragus) bones was prepared at temperature variations of 400, 500, 800, 900, 1000, and 1100 oC respectively. X-ray diffractometer (XRD), FT-IR and SEM were used for calcium oxide characterization. XRD diffraction pattern of the bone’s after thermal decomposition at 1100oC has similarity to the XRD standard diffraction pattern from Joint Committee on Powder Diffraction Standard (JCPDS). Diffractions of 2q values being used are 34.2o, 37.3o, 58.3o, 64.1o, and 67.3 o.  Ca-O presence in the samples was detected by FT-IR characterization at wavenumber of 354,90 cm-1. SEM profile show reducing size of bones after decomposition in both chicken’s and goat’s bones. Furthermore, the prepared calcium oxide was applied for biodiesel synthesis from discarded cooking oil through transesterification reaction. By applying the catalysts decomposed from chicken’s and goat’s bones, the biodiesel product showed characteristics as follows: biodiesel applied the chicken’s bone catalyst has fatty acid number of 0.56 mg/KOH, iod number of 22.41 g I2/100 g KOH, density of 0.88 g/cm3 and viscosity of 5.91 mm2/s, while biodiesel applied the goat’s bone catalyst has 0.56 mg/KOH, iod number of 21.57 g I2/100 g KOH, density of 0.88 g/cm3 and viscosity of 6.34 mm2/s. Those biodiesel’s characteristic values meet the National Standard of Indonesia (SNI) for biodiesel.

Abstract

This community service program aims to develop nutraceutical-based health products from temu mangga (Curcuma mangga Val.van Zip) and probiotics, called "TEMAPRO". Research and socialization were conducted in Pulau Semambu Village, South Sumatra, targeting village mothers who have limited knowledge about the benefits of herbs and probiotics. Temu mangga, which is traditionally consumed as a salad and herbal medicine, contains various active compounds that have the potential as antioxidants and anti-cancer. Combined with the probiotic Lactobacillus rhamnosus, this product is expected to support digestive health and increase body immunity. Implementation methods include education, training in making temu mangga extract, mixing with probiotics, and product packaging techniques. The results of the activities showed an increase in community understanding and skills in processing local materials into health products with economic value. It is hoped that "TEMAPRO" will not only improve the quality of public health, but also open up business opportunities in the village through local nutraceutical products.
