Abstract

This study aims to examine the relevance of the Rights-Based Approach (RBA) in empowering Remote Indigenous Communities (KAT), with a focus on the Yaur Tribe in Central Papua, through an analysis of its relationship with the fulfillment of the ten basic rights of indigenous peoples. The research method used is a literature study with a systematic literature review approach to 15 national and international articles discussing KAT empowerment, rights-based approaches, and indigenous peoples' issues. Data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns of empowerment approaches, RBA principles, and their level of relevance in the social, cultural, and geographical context of the Yaur Tribe. The results of the study indicate that KAT empowerment practices in Indonesia still predominantly position indigenous peoples as objects of development. In contrast, global literature emphasizes the urgency of implementing RBA which positions indigenous peoples as rights holders and the state as duty bearers. The integration of the 5P empowerment approach with RBA principles through the PANE, PANEL, and PANTHER frameworks is considered relevant and strategic to encourage the fulfillment of the ten basic rights of the Yaur Tribe in a more just, participatory, and sustainable manner. Based on these findings, this study recommends that the formulation and implementation of KAT empowerment programs be carried out in a participatory, contextual manner, and based on the recognition of the collective rights of indigenous communities, as a prerequisite for the realization of inclusive, equitable, and sustainable development.

Abstract

Abstract. Cultivating environmental awareness can be started by getting used to maintaining the environment such as throwing garbage in its place and sorting garbage according to its type. The importance of instilling environmental awareness values ??in children from an early age. This socialization activity was carried out at SD Muhammadiyah 2 Palembang. Socialization activities in the school environment are a strategic step in maintaining cleanliness and supporting environmental sustainability. The purpose of this activity is to increase students' awareness and concern for the surrounding environment so that they can be responsible in using ready-to-use goods. Community Service Activities (PKM) use a socialization method with several stages including surveys, activity planning, implementation of socialization activities, follow-up, and evaluation. The socialization activities took place effectively, as evidenced by the enthusiasm and interest of students in participating in activities ranging from material presentations to demonstrations related to waste sorting. Waste sorting activities are divided into three categories including organic, inorganic, and residual waste. To increase awareness and motivation to implement environmentally friendly behavior in students, it is hoped that the school can create routine programs regarding environmental cleanliness such as inter-class cleanliness competitions and preparing separate trash bins.   Abstrak. Menumbuhkan kepedulian terhadap lingkungan dapat dimulai dengan membiasakan diri menjaga lingkungan seperti membuang sampah pada tempatnya dan melakukan pemilahan sampah berdasarkan jenisnya. Pentingnya menananmkan nilai-nilai kepedulian lingkungan kepada anak sejak usia dini. Kegiatan sosialisasi ini dilaksanakan di SD Muhammadiyah 2 Palembang. Kegiatan sosialisasi di lingkungan sekolah menjadi langkah strategis dalam menjaga kebersihan dan mendukung keberlanjutan lingkungan. Adapun tujuan dari kegiatan ini untuk meningkatkan rasa kesadaran dan kepedulian siswa terhadap lingkungan sekitar agar dapat bertanggung jawab dalam penggunaan barang siap pakai. Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) menggunakan metode sosialisasi dengan beberapa tahapan diantaranya survei, perencanaan kegiatan, pelaksanaan kegiatan sosialisasi, tindak lanjut, dan evaluasi. Kegiatan sosialisasi berlangsung secara efektif, hal dibuktikan dengan semangat dan ketertarikan siswa dalam mengikuti kegiatan mulai dari paparan materi hingga demonstrasi yang berkaitan dengan pemilahan sampah. Kegiatan pemilahan sampah dibagi menjadi tiga kategori diantaranya sampah organik, anorganik, dan residu. Untuk meningkatkan kepedulian serta motivasi untuk menerapkan perilaku ramah lingkungan siswa, diharapkan pihak sekolah dapat membuat program rutin mengenai kebersihan lingkungan seperti lomba kebersihan antar kelas dan menyiapkan tempat sampah terpilah.
