Abstract

Highlights: The severity of unilateral CLP was assessed by categorizing preoperative photo data based on the severity of the cleft, and this severity was then correlated with the surgical outcomes. The way wounds heal is influenced by the width of the gap and suture tension, which are crucial factors in determining surgical outcomes. Abstract: Introduction: An orofacial cleft is a congenital abnormality in which an abnormal opening or cleft of the lips and/or palate. Data in 2017 showed that the most encountered characters are patients with cleft lip and palate. The distribution of the incidence of cleft lip and palate at Cleft Lip and Palate (CLP) Center Faculty of Medicine University of Muhammadiyah Malang was dominated by the complete unilateral type, which was 45.22%. Generally, the severity of cleft lip and/or palate is influenced by the severity of the preoperative cleft. Methods: This study used a retrospective cohort design taken from 40 medical records at Cleft Lip and Palate (CLP) Center Faculty of Medicine University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The preoperative photo data were categorized according to the severity of the cleft, then postoperative photos were assessed according to the Visual Rating Chart (VRC) indicator. Results: The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) reliability test between evaluators has a strength of > 0.8 on the outcome of lip and nose surgery and also > 0.9 on the outcome of the palate, indicating that there was no perception gap between evaluators. The Mann-Whitney non-parametric test had a significance of p < 0.05, indicating that there was a positive correlation between the severity of unilateral cleft lip and palate and the outcome of surgery. Conclusion: There is a correlation between the severity of the unilateral cleft lip and palate and the surgical outcome.

Abstract

Relationship between Sex and Clinical Features of Non-Syndromic Cleft Lip at CLP Center FK UMMBackground: Non-syndromic cleft lip is a type of cleft that is not accompanied by abnormalities in the head and neck. There are sex differences in the timing of palate closure. Objective: To determine the relationship between sex and clinical features of non-syndromic cleft lip (with or without cleft palate) at CLP Center FK UMM (2016-2017).Method: CrossSectional. Data on sex and clinical features of non-syndromic cleft lip were obtained from the CLP Center FK UMM as many as 241 out of 271. Data analysis used the chi-square test with conditionsexpectedcount less than five not more than 20%. If it does not meet the requirements use the non-parametric Mann Whitney test. Results: The results of the chi-square test data analysis did not meet the requirements so that a non-parametric Mann Whitney test was carried out which showed p = 0.152 (p> 0.05), which means that there is no sex relationship and clinical features of cleft lip (with or without cleft palate). ) non-syndromic.Conclusion: There is no sex relationship and the clinical picture of cleft lip (with or without cleft palate) is non-syndromic.

Abstract

Background: Stunting, a global issue, is being addressed by the World SDGs program, which has identified stunting alleviation as a key focus. Objectif: To enhance partner understanding of stunting, its treatment, and prevention. Methods: The community service method involves socialization through focus group discussions, counseling, and evaluation. Results: 100% of partners demonstrated an increase in their knowledge about stunting, with the average pretest score at 27 and the average posttest score at 83. Conclusion: Counseling, a practical and effective tool, significantly enhances knowledge about stunting.

Abstract

Background: Patients with Cleft Lip (CL) and Cleft Lip and Palate (CLP) have difficulties with eating and breastfeeding, which makes them more susceptible to malnutrition (measured using the z-score parameter) and infections. CLP is caused by inappropriate levator palatini muscles and velopharyngeal insufficiency, which can lead to infection, inflammation, and allergies that can affect the immune system. The immune system responds to these components with leukocytes, particularly neutrophils, eosinophils, and lymphocytes. Objective: To determine the difference in complete blood results and nutritional status between cleft lip and cleft palate at the CLP Centre Faculty of Medicine, University of Muhammadiyah Malang in 2020-2022. Methods: The research was conducted at the CLP Centre FK UMM using observational methods with a total sample size. Results: The study found that males had a higher prevalence of CL and CLP. The most common z-score for patients with CL and CLP was below average for those under 24 months old, and above average for those over 35 months old. Extremely low z-scores were more common in CLP patients aged between 24 and 35 months. Patients with CL and CLP were less likely to have anemia, and there was no correlation between the z-score and anemia. Patients below 2 years old with CL and CLP had normal white blood cell counts, while those over 2 years old had higher levels of white blood cells, mainly neutrophils and lymphocytes. Eosinophilia, a condition with high levels of eosinophils, occurred only in patients with CL. Only lymphocytes showed statistically significant hematological values, with a p-value of 0.021 (p<0.05). Conclusion: It has been found that patients with CL and CLP have a statistically significant difference in their lymphocyte cells. Most cases of nutritional status issues occur in children younger than 24 months with a normal z-score. In contrast, children aged 24-35 months with an inadequate z-score are more likely to have nutritional issues in cases of CLP.
