Abstract

This study aims to examine the literature that explores the effectiveness of music therapy in reducing blood pressure in hypertensive patients. The method used is a literature study method using secondary data from previous research which is a journal published from 2018 to 2020 in English and Indonesian journals. The inclusion criteria in this study were: articles explaining music therapy and its benefits in reducing blood pressure, original research, and subjects in this study were patients with hypertension. The types of studies used were randomized controlled trials and quasi-experiments. The literature search used the Clinicalkey, Proquest, Wiley online library, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases. Using the keywords "music therapy" "combination" and "hypertension" or "blood pressure". The results showed that nine studies related to music therapy can reduce blood pressure in hypertensive patients with an average decrease in systolic pressure of 10-29mmHg and diastolic pressure of 2-16mmHg. In conclusion, music therapy has a positive effect on lowering blood pressure in hypertension sufferers. Keywords: Hypertension, Music Therapy, Blood Pressure

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the relationship between self acceptance and fluid adherence in ESRD patients undergoing HD. This study used cross sectional design with consecutive sampling of 121 respondents. Data collection used fluid adherence questionnaires, self acceptance scale and documentation studies. The analysis used chi square and logistic regression. The result showed that 79,3% of respondents had adherence to fluid restriction and 78,5% of them had self acceptance. The analysis result also showed there was a significant relationship between self acceptance and fluid adherence (p=0,024), but no significant relationship between self-acceptance and IDWG (p=0.154). There was significant relationship between confounding variable of the length of time undergoing HD and fluid adherence (p=0.033), adequacy HD and IDWG (p=0,011). However, other confounding variables were not significant relationship with fluid adherence, which were: age, gender, education, and comorbidities. Furthermore, the multivariat analysis found that self acceptance was the most dominant variable affecting fluid adherence (p=0.006) after controlling by variables of the sex and the length of time undergoing HD, which can predicted 21% to fluid adherence. In conclusion, from the results of this study, it was found that there was a significant relationship between self-acceptance and length of time undergoing hemodialysis with fluid adherence in terminal renal failure patients undergoing hemodialysis. Key words: Hemodialysis, End Stage Renal Disease, Fluid adherence, Self Acceptance

Abstract

Background: Anxiety and depression are common problems in patients with end stage renal disease that impact quality of life with significant morbidity and mortality. This can be prevented by administering aromatherapy. Aromatherapy as a part of alternative and complementary therapy to treat anxiety and depression. Purpose: To review and discuss the studies related to aromatherapy in addressing anxiety and depression in end stage renal disease patients undergoing hemodialysis. Method: In this systematic review, we did content analysis by doing a search method using electronic databases. These electronic databases consist of Pubmed, Scopus, Embase, Science Direct, and ProQuest published from 2013 to 2023 and study designed RCT and quasi-eksperiment. The keywords in the search were Hemodialysis AND Aromatherapy AND depression AND anxiety. Quality assessment of selected articles used by Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). Results: There were ten articles showing the effectiveness of using aromatherapy on anxiety and depression. Conclusion: Aromatherapy has a positive impact in addressing anxiety and depression in hemodialysis patients thus aromatherapy can possibly be applied in Indonesia as a safe, simple, and inexpensive method in nursing care to improve quality of life in end stage renal disease patients undergoing hemodialysis. Suggestion: Hemodialysis nurses as health care professionals who always interact with patients can incorporate evidence-based practices such as aromatherapy in the treatment management of anxiety and depression in hemodialysis patients.   Keywords: Anxiety; Aromatherapy; Depression; End Stage Renal Disease; Hemodialysis. Kata kunci dalam pencarian adalah Hemodialysis AND Aromatherapy AND depression AND anxiety. Abstract

This study aims to collect relevant information on the effectiveness of complementary therapies in treating sleep disturbances in patients undergoing routine hemodialysis. The method used in this study is a literature study by collecting and reviewing several published articles regarding the role, use, and effect of complementary therapy in patients on routine hemodialysis with sleep disturbance problems. The results showed the effectiveness of complementary therapies such as music therapy, acupressure, and Benson's relaxation in overcoming sleep disturbances and improving patients' sleep quality. In conclusion, the three complementary therapies can overcome sleep disturbances and improve hemodialysis patients' sleep quality. However, of the three therapies, the authors concluded that Benson's relaxation intervention was an intervention that had better effectiveness than other complementary therapies. Abstract

Haemodialysis may impact on various aspects of patients, including: their daily activities, social roles and psychological aspects. The application of re-use and single-use methods of haemodialysis could be resulting in different quality of life of haemodialysis patients. This study aimed to explore quality of life of kidney failure patients undergoing haemodialysis with single-use and re-use methods. This descriptive study used cross sectional approach, recruited 70 kidney failure patients undergoing haemodialysis by consecutive sampling technique. Data collecting used KDQOL-SF 36 questionnaires and medical record, analysis used univariat and bivariate: Ttest and chi-square test to determine the relating factors of quality of life. The result revealed that there were 45,7% respondents with single-use method had good quality of life and 34,30% respondents with re-use method had good quality of life. The related factors of quality of life were adequacy (P: 0,001), Hb (P: 0,003), albumin (P: 0,001), blood pressure (P: 0,002), and periode of haemodialysis (P: 0,030). The quality of life among those patients (single-use and re-use method) mostly were poor. It is necessary to evaluate quality of life on these patients regularly and consistently, thus initiate to develop nursing management to increase their quality of life.
