Abstract

Background: Nursing student often experience anxiety and lack of motivation during their training program particularly during examination, and this may affect the achievement of learning outcomes. Teaching methods that might increase motivation and potentially increase learning outcomes have been developed, including video simulation and online learning. The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of integrating video simulation into online learning on students’ motivation, anxiety level and competence. Methods: A pre-test/post-test one group design was utilized. Two video simulations containing nursing skills were integrated into the e-learning system which can be accessed for three weeks by 76 respondents who took Basic Nursing course. The level of motivation and anxiety were measured before and after the intervention, while the competence was measured after the intervention. Results: The majority of students passed the skills examination. This study indicates a significant increase of students’ motivation after the intervention (p value < 0.001), but the level of anxiety among respondents increased. Conclusion: The integration of video simulation into e-learning system can enhance student’s skills performance and motivation. Although there is also an increase in anxiety, findings of the study can be applied to other subjects and nursing skills with attention to aspects that cause student anxiety.

Abstract

Abstract

Patients who experience Chronic Kidney Failure (CKD) require hemodialysis therapy. Fatigue is one of the effects of CKD and hemodialysis therapy. Fatigue occurs due to prolonged hemodialysis, anemia, uremic syndrome, and decreased blood pressure due to the effects of hemodialysis. One of the non-pharmacological therapies that can reduce fatigue in hemodialysis patients is foot massage therapy. This case study aims to determine the reduction in fatigue levels after carrying out foot massage therapy in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis. This research design uses a case study to evaluate the implementation of nursing through foot massage therapy. The measuring tool used is the Functional Assessment Chronic Illness Therapy (FACIT) Fatigue Scale. This intervention was given at the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd hours for 10 minutes (starting at 51-60 minutes) for 3 days in the hospital hemodialysis unit and at home for 4 days for a total of 7 days. Evaluation of respondents' level of fatigue was carried out on days 1, 5, and 8. The results of this study showed that the fatigue level score after the intervention from days 1 to 7 decreased. The fatigue level score on day 1 was 15 (severe category), the score on day 5 was 21.66 (moderate category), and day 8 was 24.55 (moderate category). It can be concluded that foot massage therapy can reduce fatigue in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis. The results of this research can be applied independently by nurses for CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis to reduce fatigue levels.

Abstract

Background: Research has shown an increasing number of young women between the ages 35 and 54 having heart attacks. However, data demonstrated a persisting failure to raise women's awareness of cardiovascular disease risk. Moreover, very little has been done to date in low- and middle-income countries to educate women on cardiovascular disease risks and the high mortality rates for women. Aims: The aim of this study was to explore hypertensive women's awareness and perceptions of heart disease. Methods: A qualitative research design using semi-structured interviews was performed. Data were analyzed using an inductive thematic analysis approach. Results: In total, 25 women participated in this study. Three main themes emerged: (1) perception of heart disease and its risk factors, (2) ‘I don't want to think about it': perspectives on future risk, and (3) strategies to prevent heart disease. From the participants' narratives, it was evident that the women in this study had limited knowledge related to heart disease. Although all participants suffered from hypertension, the women still underestimated their risk of developing heart disease in the future. Many women believed that praying to God and maintaining an optimistic mindset could protect them from heart disease. Conclusion: The study's findings highlight a clear indication of the need to implement renewed strategies for educating women about cardiovascular health tailored to target the rural populations in Indonesia. Raising women's awareness might reduce their risk of suffering from cardiovascular disease in the future.
