Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of Black women struggle in Maya Angelou’s poem. In this study, the researcher chose a poems of Maya Angelou. The poem entitles “Equality”. In order to discover the representation of black women struggle in those poems, the study was conducted by using intrinsic elements of poetry, feminist literary critic, gynocriticism and biography of Maya Angelou. This study was conducted into two research problem; 1. How Maya Angelou represent black women struggle in her poem? 2. What kinds of struggle does Angelou describe in her poem? The result of this study shows that Maya Angelou represent the struggle of black women through the intrinsic elements. She represent that there is a clash between black women and white people. White people treat black women in a bad way because they are consider black women as slave. The poems shows that black women struggle against racism.Keywords: Representation, black women, struggle, gynocriticism

Abstract

This research analyzes women‘s issues in The Da Vinci Code novel by Dan Brown. In the novel there is a female character named Sophie Neveu . Sophie's role as a woman who can be relied upon in various situations makes her considered as woman who carries the spirit of feminism. The researchers decided to examine the role of Sophie Neveu as reflection of women's equality in The Da Vinci Code novel. The main theory used is Liberal Feminism by Betty Friedan. The form used in this research is qualitative and descriptive method in process of data analysis. The results of the discussion of this research are 1). Sophie Neveu play eleven roles of masculine qualities i.e. strong woman, competitive, courageous, unyielding, confident, independent, adventurous, aggressive, assertive, intelligent and generally acting as leaders, and; 2). The factors that make Sophie Neveu able to play this role is the background of her education. The conclusions of this research are masculine characteristics that can be owned by women and men, to become advanced individuals, women as part of the community must have equal opportunities as men in getting equal education, and the last that education is very important.Keywords: Characterization, Women‘s issues, Women equality, Liberal feminism, Masculine qualities

Abstract

Abstract: This study is aims at revealing the female masculinity or masculine character reflected in the character heroine of Katniss Everdeen and Xena. The characters created are also both heroes mostly born in the adventure genre. Heroine is the female protagonist character. The hero overcomes these opponents because he is strong, brave, resourceful, rational, and determined to succeed, he may receive assistance from wise and benefit being who recognize him for what he is. The words masculine can refer to the property of being biologically male. Inferiority to high culture are derived from, and refer back to, the sexist constructions of femininity and masculinity in the wider society. Researcher look for data relating to the question of the problem, how are the masculinity aspect of heroine described in Xena: Warrior Princess and The Hunger Games Movie. The researcher used comparative method to find differences and similarities of the both character to be used as objects of research with the topic woman characters. From the analysis, it was found that Katniss and Xena had masculinity of heroine. This also shows a striking difference in both character.Keywords:   heroine, masculinity, comparative, film, sexist.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the positive politeness strategies that are often used to show similarity, familiarity and respect. This research discusses the positive politeness strategies used by Jay Shetty on the Jay Shetty Podcast YouTube channel. This research focuses on the types of positive politeness strategies used by Jay Shetty to Will Smith as the guest star in talk show videos on the Jay Shetty Podcast YouTube channel. The data from this study are analyzed using the theory proposed by Brown & Levinson (1987) who argue that there are 15 positive politeness strategies. The method used to analyze this research is a qualitative approach with the content analysis method, the data in this study are taken from Jay Shetty's interviews with Will Smith that have been transcribed. The results showed that Jay Shetty used 10 out of 15 positive politeness strategies proposed by Brown & Levinson (1987) when he communicated with the guest star, with a total of 75 data. Based on the analysis, the positive politeness strategy of exaggerate (approval, interest, sympathy with H) is the most dominant strategy used by Jay Shetty with a total of 21 data. Jay Shetty uses this strategy to show respect, approval, interest and sympathy to his guest star so that they are satisfied.

Abstract

This article aims to explore the intersection between comparative literature and adaptation studies, examining the theoretical frameworks and practical applications that underlie this fascinating field. By analysing the transformation of a classic work into various media, we will uncover the mechanisms of change and the cultural significance embedded in these adaptations. This article examines the film adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel Dracula by Francis Ford Coppola. A comparative analysis is conducted on the novel and film to identify significant changes that occurred in the adaptation process. These changes include the addition of scenes, character modifications, and changes to the plot. One of the main changes is the addition of a romantic element between Dracula and Mina, which is not present in the original novel. This change transforms the theme of gothic horror into a more nuanced tragic love story. The study concludes that the film adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula involves a number of significant changes that alter the meaning and experience of the narrative. Further research is needed to understand the motivations and impact of changes in the adaptation process, especially from a cultural and sociological perspective. In addition, a broader comparative study could be conducted by comparing different adaptations of Dracula to see the patterns of change that occur over time. It is also important to understand how changes in adaptation affect audience reception. Adaptation research methodology needs to be continuously developed by integrating digital humanities approaches and new technologies to provide a more comprehensive perspective. More systematic documentation of the decision-making process in adaptation is also needed to understand the factors that influence changes from novel to film, so as to provide deeper insight into the process of adapting literary works to visual media. Abstract

This research looks at how Muslim women are portrayed in director Nida Manzoor's TV series “We Are Lady Parts” (2021). The research is using the representation theory by Stuart Hall and Islamic feminism by Fatima Mernissi. This research aims to determine two things: first, how Muslim women are portrayed in the TV series “We Are Lady Parts” (2021); and second, how Muslim women are described in the show. The results of this study are classified into two, namely first, the images of Muslim women in the TV series “We Are Lady Parts” (2021) consist of the characterization of women consisting of physical aspects, Muslim women and their interactions, Muslim women in dealing with difficult situations, and Muslim women in their daily activities. Second, the representation of Muslim women depicted in the TV series “We Are Lady Parts” (2021) produces representations of educated Muslim women, Muslim women with a culture of love and marriage, Muslim women who have careers and hobbies, Muslim women and the struggle of misrepresentation.

Abstract

This study explores the comparative comparison of language learning capabilities between male and female students by using a qualitative-descriptive methodology. The main tool used in the study is questionnaire to investigate possible differences in how genders approach and do well in language acquisition. The goal of this research is to provide an answer regarding “do female students learn language better than male students?”. In addition to providing a more complete knowledge of potential differences of learning style, learning strategies and motivation variations across genders in their language learning experiences, the findings aim to offer critical insights into educational practices. This investigation not only improves teaching strategies but also establishes the foundation for creating inclusive and productive language learning settings.
