Abstract

Abstract Energy scarcity is a hot issue, which encourages the drafting team of Community Service Activities to socialize the use of organic waste into bioenergy on a simple scale. One example of the results of organic waste treatment is Biogas (Mayasari et al., 2010). The approach method used is to provide students with an understanding of the potential of renewable energy in the city of Bontang. Continuing by socializing the manufacture of simple reactors and the process of fermenting organic waste to produce biogas. From the results of this training, it can be concluded with enthusiasm from the students that the activities are carried out well and are able to increase students' knowledge about the potential waste in the surrounding environment and it is hoped that they will be able to practice making organic waste biodigesters on a simple scale. Abstract

Abstrak Virgin Coconut Oil merupakan olahan buah kelapa yang memiliki banyak manfaat diantaranya untuk memenuhi kebutuhan pangan, kebutuhan farmasi, kesehatan dan kosmetik. Dengan potensi buah kelapa yang memadai di Kota Bontang, maka pengolahan VCO layak untuk dikembangkan. Kegiatan Pk Mini berupa pelatihan membuat VCO dari kelapa local yang diharapkan dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan masyarakat. Metode kegiatan ini terdiri dari metode ceramah dan diskusi memaparkan manfaat VCO dan ragam teknik pembuatan; Metode praktek dilakukan dengan mempraktekkan pembuatan VCO teknik fermentasi. Kesimpulan yang diperoleh dari kegiatan ini: Warga memahami manfaat VCO dalam kehidupan sehari-hari; warga dapat mempraktekkan teknik pembuatan VCO skala rumah tangga dengan menggunakan peralatan sederhana; serta secara tidak langsung memberikan dampak positif dalam peningkatan taraf hidup warga dalam hal ekonomi dan kesehatan. Kata kunci: Kelapa, Fermentasi, VCO.

Abstract

Corona virus disease (Covid-19) is a disease caused by a virus that attacks the respiratory tract and still continues today. The death toll from Covid-19 continues to rise in Indonesia as the number of positive cases of the coronavirus reaches thousands of people. One of the bacterial infections that cause respiratory infections is Klebsiella pneumoniae. One of the preventive efforts to prevent the spread of infections caused by the corona virus and bacteria is the renewal of waterless hand sanitizers called antiseptic hand sanitizers or hand sanitizers. The approach method used is to provide understanding to the students about the potential of waste treatment in the city of Bontang. Continue by socializing the manufacture of chitosan from shrimp shells and the process of processing chitosan to produce hand sanitizers. From the results of this training, it can be concluded with enthusiasm from the students that the activities are carried out well and are able to increase students' knowledge about the potential of waste in the surrounding environment and it is hoped that they will be able to practice making hand santizers on a simple scale. Abstract

Tongkol jagung telah banyak digunakan sebagai sumber arang aktif atau karbon aktif dengan berbagai cara sintesis karena mengandung selulosa, hemiselulosa, dan lignin dengan kadar yang besar. Arang aktif merupakan senyawa karbon yang daya absorpsinya ditingkatkan melalui proses karbonasi dan aktivasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh waktu aktivasi terhadap karakterisasi arang aktif tongkol jagung meliputi bulk density, Bagian yang tersisa pada pemanasan 950 oC, dan uji daya serap arang aktif terhadap larutan Iod (I2). Pada penelitian ini digunakan variasi waktu aktivasi 6, 12, 18, 24, dan 36 jam dengan menggunakan H2SO4 sebagai aktivator. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan seiring bertambahnya waktu aktivasi, bulk density semakin berkurang, Bagian tersisa pada pemanasan 950 oC semakin bertambah, dan daya serap terhadap larutan Iod (I2) semakin bertambah, di mana waktu aktivasi yang optimum adalah 36 jam. Data karakterisasi arang aktif tongkol jagung sudah memenuhi SII 0258-88, kecuali pada pengujian daya serap terhadap larutan iod (I2). Kata kunci: tongkol jagung, arang aktif, karakterisasi

Abstract

Papaya plants have considerable potential and have not been widely developed, especially in the seeds because there is a high enough oil and protein content. The objective of this study was to investigate in situ transesterification process which allows direct production of biodiesel from papaya seeds. Changing conditions of the process variables studied were the volume of the methanol (100, 200, 300 mL) and time of process (15,30,45, 60, and 90 minutes) with a specified variables weight and water content of seed, catalyst, stirring speed, temperature and observable effect of the yield of oil extracted to form FAME. Volume of methanol and reaction time significantly affect the yield FAME. The highest FAME yield obtained on the volume of 300 mL methanol and 90 minutes time reaction (77,68%).

Abstract

Nanas (Ananas comosus L.) merupakan salah satu komoditas yang memiliki potensi unggulan untuk dikembangkan dengan melakukan pengelolaan yang dapat menjaga kualitas dari buah nanas. Pengeringan dapat menyebabkan daya simpan produk akan lebih lama. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat pengaruh konsentrasi gula stevia dan lama pengeringan terhadap kualitas fisik manisan kering buah nanas dan menentukan perlakuan terbaik yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini. Metode penelitian menggunakan uji organoleptik dan dianalisis menggunakan metode zeleny. Perlakuan yang digunakan yaitu konsentrasi gula 30%, 40%, 50% dan 60% dengan waktu pengeringan selama 60 menit, 80 menit, 100 menit dan 120 menit. Parameter yang diamati yaitu kualitas fisik (warna, aroma, tekstur dan rasa). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi gula dan waktu pengeringan memberikan pengaruh yang sangat jelas terhadap kualitas fisik produk manisan kering buah nanas. Perlakuan terbaik yang didapatkan dari penelitian ini yaitu pada penggunaan konsentrasi gula sebesar 60% dengan waktu pengeringan selama 100 menit, dengan penurunan berat buah sebesar 18 gram; warna 3,5 (coklat-kuning kecoklatan); aroma 3,75 (sedikit berbau manisan-berbau manisan); tekstur 3 (sedikit kenyal); rasa 5 (sangat manis).

Abstract

Banana production in Bontang City has increased every year. Along with the high productivity of bananas, the amount of banana peel waste will also increase. In general, waste in the form of banana peels is only used as animal feed or disposed of without further processing so that it can cause environmental pollution. For this reason, it is necessary to manage banana peels so that they have a higher economic value. Banana peel contains alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, tannins and saponins. This Saponin will produce foam so that it can be used as a washing agent and can also be used as a kitchen equipment cleaner. The samples in this activity were ripe banana peels and orange peels as additives (fragrances and essential oil producers). The method used in the Activities for the Community is the presentation of the material. Discussion, and practice of making dish soap. Participants were very enthusiastic in participating in a series of training activities for making dish soap. The result of this training is an environmentally friendly dish soap product according to the method provided.

Abstract

Cooking oil has been used repeatedly, also known as used cooking oil. Used cooking oil or used oil is usually disposed of carelessly so that it becomes waste in the surrounding environment. This community service activity aims to educate the people of Bontang City about the dangers of using cooking oil. The participants of this activity are the people of Bontang City, especially high school / vocational / MA students. So that the results of community service, especially for students in Bontang City, can improve their abilities and bridge in educating the public about the dangers and utilization of used cooking oil waste. This activity consists of discussion, demonstration, and hands-on practice. The method in this community service is practice and demonstration to provide skills to participants in determining the right formula for making soap from used cooking oil. After this activity, it is hoped that high school/ vocational / MA students in Bontang City will be more aware of the dangers of using used cooking oil and can utilize used cooking oil waste in products that have useful value.

Abstract

Water turbine is one of the driving machines where the working fluid is water that is used directly to spin the turbine runner. This research was conducted using a pelton type water turbine installastion with variations In the shape of the turbine blade. The research method used is an experimental method with a laboratory scale experimental design as well as the results of the design of this water turbine used as a practical tool for students majoring in mechanical engineering. The results showed the influence of turbine blade shape on the performance of the pelton water turbine prototype, so it can be concluded that the maximum tangential velocity is 12.141 rad/s, the hydraulic power value is 2.64 Watts, the kinetic power value is 3.886 Watts, maximum turbine power 99.141 Watts, maximum electric generator power 99.141 Watts, maximum turbine efficiency 25.512 %, and maximum electric generator efficiency 0.661 %.

Abstract

Desalination (removal of salt content) of salt or brackish water into fresh water is another way to obtain fresh water. The two most widely practiced methods are distillation (distillation), heating seawater until it evaporates and then condensing to get fresh water and reverse osmosis, seawater at high pressure through a thin membrane to pass water molecules. Another method that can be used in the desalination process is the adsrobtion process. One of the media that can be used in the adsrobtion process is chitosan. This research is carried out by the bacth method with two variables, the first variable concentration, namely 800, 1600, 2400, 3200 and 4000 ppm. The second variable is the stirring time with variations, namely 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 rpm. Based on the results of studies that have been carried out, the best concentration of shrimp skin chitosan is at a concentration of 4000 mg / L or the addition of 200 mg of chitosan in 0.25 L of brackish water. At this concentration, the absorbent can reduce the salinity of brackish water by 86.6694% and for the best stirring speed the shrimp shell chitosan is at a speed of 300 rpm with the addition of 1000 mg of chitosan in 0.25 L of brackish water. At this stirring speed, the adsorbent can reduce the salinity of brackish water by 82.6335%.
