Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of individual counseling using expressive writing techniques on improving students’ academic resilience at the Islamic University of Jember. A quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed. The participants were three students selected through purposive sampling due to their low levels of academic resilience based on pretest results. Data were collected using an academic resilience questionnaire covering self-adjustment, problem-solving, resourcefulness in dealing with challenges, and confidence and perseverance. The instrument demonstrated high reliability and was considered appropriate for measuring academic resilience. The findings indicated an increase in the average academic resilience score from 77 (low category) on the pretest to 88 (high category) on the posttest. The paired-sample t-test revealed a calculated t-value of 17.065, exceeding the critical t-value of 4.303, with a significance level of 0.003 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant improvement. However, the findings should be interpreted cautiously due to the very limited sample size. Overall, the results suggest that individual counseling combined with expressive writing techniques has the potential to enhance students’ academic resilience and may serve as an alternative counseling intervention that addresses students’ emotional needs._____________________________________________________________Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh konseling individual dengan teknik expressive writing terhadap peningkatan resiliensi akademik mahasiswa di Universitas Islam Jember.

Abstract

Experimental research was conducted to determine the effect of using symbolic modeling by providing Guidance Group services related to student career planning. This study used a quantitative approach as a pre-experiment using a one group pre-test post-test design model. The subjects investigated were 65 grade VII students of JHS Sabrang Ambulu, who were divided into two study groups. Purposive sampling is a sample preparation technique that uses questionnaire criteria based on class intervals. The data collection method uses questionnaires or questionnaires that are adjusted based on career planning indicators. The results of Wilcoxon's hypothesis analysis show that there is a difference between the pre- and post-test results with a significance level of 0.005 (Asymp.Sig.(2-tailed) < 0.05), meaning (Ha) true and (Ho) false. This shows that there is a significant change in career planning after being given symbolic modeling services.

Abstract

Academic procrastination, which is often defined as delaying work on assignments, it is believed that every students has exposure that feeling. This study used qualitative research whose participants were class XI vocational school students whose opinions became the basis for this research. The criteria for research participants used purposive sampling (Jupp, 2006) and for participant recruitment, researchers followed the ethical procedures recommended by Hammersley & Traianou, (2012). Besides that, this research uses narrative studies (Connelly & Clandinin, 1990), stories as a data source, and interviews (Barkhuizen et al., 2014) to collect data and in the process use thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2008). To test the level of trust, researcher use the theory of peer debriefing (Janesick, 2015) and member checking (Lincoln & Guba, 1985). As a results, there are several things, both intrinsic and extrinsic, that influence a person to carry out procrastination behavior.
