Abstract

This article examines the process of familiarization the Sasak Alus Language into Indonesian language communication in early childhood. Through descriptive methods in the sociopragmatic study, this study aims to find forms of communication politeness character and the process of forming the character of early childhood politeness through loan languages. This study is strategic in two ways; first, the process of forming dominant characters is a deliberate and conscious activity through the learning system.  This study shows the natural process and non-indoctrination. Second, sociopragmatic studies always place the process of language lending as a disruption of language events in a multilingual context. This study shows a positive contribution to the growth of politeness in language from an early age. Previously with word class grouping techniques and the description of communication context, it was found that familiarization of the loan language of the Sasak Alus language into Indonesian communication fostered the character of politeness in communicating early childhood. Previously with word class grouping techniques and the description of the communication context, it was found that familiarization of the loan language of the Sasak Alus language into Indonesian communication fostered the character of politeness in communicating early childhood. This character is obtained through the use of the loan word Sasak Alus in Indonesian communication. The word loan consists of five classes of words, namely pronouns, interrogative, adverb modality (event), adverb quantity (tense), and demonstrative. The five classes of words are said in a flat, hoarse tone, until decrease. The pronunciation of words in that tone contains four motivations, namely to humble yourself, respect the other person, position yourself as part of others, and continue communication. The process is carried out early on through the process of inculcation of character by adults through the exemplary process.

Abstract

Since the COVID-19 pandemic entered Indonesia in 2019, a technological adjustment in learning has been massively implemented. Online teaching is the only logical method for the reason of limiting physical contact. Although the characteristics of Z-Generation learners are digital natives, live learning is still more welcomed. Therefore, this study aims to determine and carefully measure the satisfaction of new colleges students in the general English program at Universitas Hamzanwadi. The measures are three aspects (course content, instructor performance, and media use) and another aspect in teaching mode (online and offline). In addition, this research discusses why the new college students choose to participate in the general English program 2020/2021. This study utilized a quantitative-descriptive approach with the census method. The population was taken from all new students for the 2020/2021 period as many as six faculties totaling 1450, although only 1196 respondents ultimately responded. The primary data collection instruments were questionnaires through google forms, interviews, and documents such as teaching modules and media. The findings show 1196 respondents recorded via a google form telling that the bilingualism reasons were the majority choice (54.93%). The scholarships and student exchanges are the second paramount concern to this program (21.15%). Other positions such as translator or work, reasons are not significantly mentioned. Conclusion tells that new student satisfaction following the General English program (GE) is significantly more than 70 percent in three aspects of the assessment within the program.

Abstract

Given the fact that online teaching has been widely implemented across the globe during this Covid-19 pandemic, teachers are required to have a high level of IT skills to be able to conduct online teaching. It is without exception that EAP (English for Academic Purpose) teachers need to familiarize themselves with electronic devices due to the benefits they have to offer in an e-learning environment. The current study aims at examining teachers’ perceptions of using e-learning tools in the context of Indonesian EAP classrooms. Forty-five Indonesian EAP teachers participated in the current study with different ages, academic backgrounds, and lengths of EAP teaching experiences. The instruments used to collect the research data were an online survey and semi-structured interviews. The results showed that video and VLEs were the two most commonly-used e-learning tools among the teachers with “self-taught” and “colleagues” being the two most favorite approaches the teachers have employed to learn such tools. Besides, promoting student engagement and developing learner autonomy were perceived as positive impacts of using e-learning tools by the teachers. Pedagogical implications of this study’s findings suggested that school authorities should organize more regular pre-service teacher training programs with the purpose to help novice teachers to improve their IT skills. Besides, e-learning tools should be more used in online teachings due to the benefits they have to offer for promoting student engagement and facilitating learner autonomy. A number of limitations in the current study are also presented along with some suggestions for future studies

Abstract

Genres-based text in the content area of writing has long been practiced, yet the theme's content sometimes does not match learners' needs—this research aimed at discovering the effectiveness of local content-based learning media in teaching English for the tourism class. The local content selected was local public figures to write an autobiography. This research applied for participatory action research taking place in one-class English for tourism. A total of fifteen course-takers for the three-month course were recruited, documenting how the idea of local content we proposed was used to teach tourism students' writing with the test as the instrument. The teaching content is restricted to two formulated indicators; comprehending text structure and language features, including using to be and pronoun. Findings indicate that local content effectively improved course takers' comprehension of the descriptive text structure and increased vocabulary. The majority of course-takers reflected a significant improvement to meet classical passing grades in the last teaching evaluation. The diagnostic test previously was under stipulated standardized-score. The course-takers successfully wrote narration using local public figures to apply" to be" in good sentences. Moreover, overlapping use of masculine and feminine was distinguished correctly and positioned in well-constructed narrative text.

Abstract

This library study aims to examine the effect of Islamic education philosophy on the emotional intelligence development of Muslim students. This study highlights the potential synergy between Islamic education philosophy and the components of emotional intelligence through a systematic review of relevant literature. Existing literature suggests that the Islamic education philosophy, with its emphasis on moral values, character development, self-awareness, and interpersonal skills, can foster emotional intelligence in Muslim students, although few empirical studies investigate this relationship specifically. The findings highlight the need for additional empirical research to establish causal relationships and identify effective strategies for integrating Islamic education principles into educational practices to improve emotional intelligence. Future studies can contribute to evidence-based practices that promote emotional intelligence within Islamic educational contexts by incorporating cultural and contextual factors and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, thereby enhancing the overall well-being and success of Muslim students.
