Abstract

This study proposes metaheuristics to solve the permutation flowshop scheduling problem in ED Aluminium which produces kitchen utensils. The aim is to find the processing sequence of products that results in the shortest total completion time, minimizing makespan and total flowtime. Three metaheuristics are developed, which are Simulated Annealing (SA), Large Neighborhood Search (LNS), and Ant Colony Optimization (ACO). Experiments are performed in this research to evaluate the three algorithms. The result using the simulated annealing algorithm is considered better because it has a shorter makespan. The contribution of this study is developing Simulated Annealing, Large Neighborhood Search, and Ant Colony Optimization to solve the problem.

Abstract

Indonesia has abundant potential for solar energy. The decrease in the cost of solar power generation components can bolster the development of solar power plants. Due to its geographical characteristics, it is essential to analyze the feasibility of using solar power plants as a primary renewable energy source in Indonesia, especially in Sumatra Island. One of the critical aspects of developing solar power plants is determining the suitable location of the power plant and allocating the electricity generated to the regions. Therefore, this study considers the Capacitated Location Allocation Problem (CLAP) to determine the optimal placement of solar power plants on Sumatra Island to minimize investment and transmission costs. To address the problem, we explore three metaheuristics, namely Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Simulated Annealing (SA), and Large Neighborhood Search (LNS). The results obtained by these metaheuristic methods show significant differences in cost, with SA providing the best solution with the lowest cost. The investment and transmission cost can be minimized by solving the CLAP to obtain optimal solar power plant placement while enhancing the region's resilience in implementing distributed generation.

Abstract

Research on artificial intelligence to determine water quality has been widely developed as a human endeavor toimprove the quality of life. This study employs an artificial neural network (ANN) to determine the optimalclassification model for determining the safety of water. This study uses existing Kaggle generic datasets. Numerouspreprocesses were performed on the dataset starting from cleaning the data from missing values and outliers toequalizing the weights of each parameter with the min-max scaler. This study compares the accuracy of ANN modelin various scenarios constructed with 10, 15, 20, and 30 neurons. Scaled Conjugate Gradient is implemented as thelearning algorithm for developing the prediction model. The obtained results of the experiments vary betweenscenarios. Overall accuracy increases when the number of neurons is between 10 and 20, and decreases when thenumber of neurons is between 20 and 30.

Abstract

Operating room scheduling is a complex process that involves various resources and takes the interests of many parties into consideration. The genetic algorithm is the frequently used metaheuristic algorithm to solve a large-size operating room scheduling problem. Many techniques have been developed to improve the genetic algorithms' performance in dealing with the operating room scheduling complexity. In this paper, we survey available literature to identify improvement techniques used at each stage of the genetic algorithm and capture the underlying problems. This review provides a mapping of improvement techniques in genetic algorithms correlating with the considered problems. The results can be employed by other researchers as a guide for future research in integrating a genetic algorithm or other population-based metaheuristic algorithm with a recent heuristic algorithm following the future directions of operating room scheduling research.

Abstract

Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) is an additive manufacturing technique that uses a 3D printer to extrude molten filament through a nozzle, which moves along the X, Y, and Z axes to create parts with the desired geometry. FDM offers numerous advantages, especially for producing parts with complex shapes, due to its ability to enable rapid and cost-effective manufacturing compared to traditional methods. This study implemented an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to optimize process parameters aimed at minimizing dimensional inaccuracies in the FDM process. Key parameters considered for optimization included the number of shells, infill percentage, and nozzle temperature. The ANN utilized three algorithms: Scaled Conjugate Gradient, Bayesian Regularization, and Levenberg-Marquardt. Model performance was evaluated based on dimensional deviations along the X and Y axes, with a hidden layer of 25 neurons. Among the algorithms, Scaled Conjugate Gradient provided the most accurate results in minimizing dimensional errors.

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the Green Supply Chain performance of hotels in Bali. Research methods: This study uses primary data obtained from questionnaires using a sample of three division heads per hotel and secondary data obtained from past hotel data. The data is processed using excel. Results and discussion: Two hotels obtained results of 66.48 and 75.02. These scores fall into the Average and Good grades. There needs to be some prioritized improvements with SNORM scores below 60 from two different hotels, namely water used, energy used, % suppliers with an EMS or ISO 1400 certification, supplier lead time, delivery item accuracy, and source flexibility. Implication: Recommendations that can be given are the use of PLTS, other water sources, and good communication with suppliers.

Abstract

The economic well-being of farmers in Indonesia's rice supply chain is influenced by multiple structural and systemic challenges. This study conducts a systematic literature review (SLR) by analyzing 56 articles from 10 different countries published in the last six years to identify key factors impacting farmers' financial resilience and sustainability. Findings highlight significant price volatility, limited market access, high production costs, and dependency on intermediaries, which collectively hinder economic stability. Additional challenges include inadequate government support, technological gaps, climate-related risks, and inefficiencies in supply chain management. Addressing these issues requires integrated policy interventions, improved infrastructure, and cooperative strategies to enhance farmers' livelihoods and promote a more equitable rice supply chain.

Abstract

Routing issues have recently gained the attention of many researchers due to the various advantages they provide. Minimizing costs, travel time, and the number of workers will help company resolve the issue. This paper contains a review of 53 papers characterized by their objectives, function, and method of completion. There are two types of objective functions: single-objective functions and multiple-objective functions. Exact method, hybridization and simulation methods, heuristic, and metaheuristic are the solution methods used. Further research is supposed to generate advanced metaheuristic algorithms that have already been revealed to be useful for both single and multi-objective problems in this field. A more in-depth investigation of the performance of metaheuristic algorithms is required in future research.
