Abstract

Aims of this research were to investigate hatching rate of Puntius orphoides eggs resulted from artificial spawning and the effect of different water inlet number with different water debit and food on growth rate and survival rate of P. orphoides fry. Experimental method with factorial pattern was used. The first factor was ponds culture without water inlet and with one water inlet (10 LPM/m³ water debit), two water inlets (20 LPM/m³ water debit), and three water inlets (30 LPM/m³ water debit). The second factor was feeding with pellet and Tubifex. Each treatment was repeated twice. Parameter measured was number of hatched egg, increasing of body weight, length and survival rate. The data was analyzed by one way anova and further analysis with Duncan test. Result showed that P. orphoides could spawn in culture ponds with hatching rate of the egg was 82%. The highest growth rate was reached in the ponds with three water inlets (30 LPM/m³ water debit), while the best survival rate was reached in culture ponds with three water inlets (30 LPM/m³ water debit). Pellet food and Tubifex gave the same effect on the fish growth.

Abstract

The fishs reproduction status is affected by both fed compositions and vitamins intake lead to determine improvement of eggs quality as well as fish production. The presence of Ascorbic Acid (AA) in the cultivation ponds, might accelerate females gonad maturation and so rematuration. The research aimed to determine: (1) Level gonad maturity of supplementation Ascorbic Acid; (2) Oocyts diameter; (3) Larvae survival rate. The research used experimental methods.The method was a completely randomized design (CRD) of 4 treatments and 4 replications. Treatments were supplementation of AA at different dosages of 0, 600, 1200 and 1800 mg/kg fish-fed ration.The gonad maturity level was analysed descriptively and oocyte diameter and larvae survival rate data were analysed by ANOVA. The result showed that supplementation of AA at a dosage of 1200 mg / kg fish-fed ration accelerated the process of gonad maturity, development of oocyt diameter and larvae survival rate as well as the viability of O. vittatus larvae at 90 rearing days. In this case, level IV gonad maturity was reached at 90 days which characterized by completed vitelogenesis process and oocyte diameter of 1.1 mm. Thus, this study is useful for aquaculture science by providing information on utilization of AA as food supplement in fish culture and also for fish farmer who wish to accelerate O. vittatus reproduction.

Abstract

Over exploitation of consumed fishes causes declining of  targeted fish populations that will lead to a cascade effect to the guild compositions. The change of carnivorous, omnivorous and herbivorous fish populations drives to the food chain destructions and unstable ecosystems. The objective of this study was to build fish community modelling based on guild compositions. This study was conducted on fish communities in the Banjaran River. The data collected were species richness, the abundance of fish and the guild composition among carnivore, herbivore, and omnivore. Survey and purposive random sampling technique were applied and Banjaran River was divided into five sites based on the physical characteristics of the environment and fishing activities. Species richness data were analyzed by ANOVA, the composition of the carnivorous, omnivorous and herbivorous fish was analyzed descriptively based on the guild pyramides.  About 115 individuals consist of 17 species belong to 5 families were found. The species richness in the five sites in was relatively similar (P > 0.05 (P = 0.269)). The fish community in site 3 had the balanced composition which was composed by 3% carnivores, 21.2% omnivores and 75.8% of herbivores.  This fish community modelling could be an an alternative way to manage fish community.  By controlling the carnivorous fish population, the natural resource especially fish as food resource will sustain and the species loss will be prevent.

Abstract

The increasing demand for freshwater resources generated by human population growth, urbanization, industrialization and irrigation will result in a decline or loss of freshwater fish such as Osteochilus spp. The aims of research were to analysis the population of Osteochilus spp in terms of abundance, longitudinal distribution and sex ratio and to determine environmental factors of river driven these populations. The research was carried out in upper part of Serayu River during wet season (January – March) and dry season (June - August) 2007. Fish was collected by using electro fishing and stratified random sampling was applied by dividing this river into five strata based on altitude. The result showed that the total abundances of Osteochilus spp. was 149 individuals, it was composed by of O. hasselti (47) with 8.30 – 24.35 cm and 11.20 – 198.70 g, O. microchephalus (101) with 11.35 – 25.21 cm and 17.9 – 206.5 g and O. kahajanensis (1) with 17.30 cm and 68.80 g. The size of population O hasselti and O. microchephalus gradually increased from 7 and 4 individuals in stratum A became 27 and 12 individuals in stratum D, and then increased up to 43 and 17 individuals in stratum E. The sex ratio of O. hasselti was 10:16 and O. microchephalus was 20:23. Both species were longitudinally distributed in Serayu River. It seems that the population of O. hasellti and O. microchephalus were more influenced by physical factors i.e. depth and current rather than chemical factors i.e. DO and pH of Serayu River.

Abstract

Functional change of agricultural lands into non-agricultural lands will obviously have an impact on the dimin-ished or loss of habitat of the rice field eels (Monopterus albus Zuieuw). The aim of this research was to un-derstand the difference between (1) reproduction parameters (fecundity, gonadal maturity level (GML), and gonadal maturity index (GMI); (2) histological features of female and male gonadal development (oogenesis and spermatogenesis); (3) range of body length in each sexual phase; and (4) range of body length in each GML stage of captured eel from 4 sub-districts of Banyumas regency, Central Java (Ajibarang, Sumpyuh, Banyumas, and Sumbang). The total number of captured subjects were 631 eels; which consisted of 155; 227; 157; and 92 eels from Ajibarang, Sumpyuh, Banyumas, and Sumbang, respectively. We observed oogenesis in the stages of GML-1 (chromatin nucleolar stages and perinucleolar stage); GML-II (cortical alveolar formation stage or globular yolk stage), GML-3 (late globular yolk stage), GML-IV (mature or ripe stage), and follicle atretic stage. Also, we observed male gonadogenesis and spermatogenesis in the intersex. The range of GMI of captured eels was between 0.023 and 0.686. Eel in GML-I, GML-2, GML-3, and GML-IV had GMI within the range of 0.023-0.096; 0.096-0.425; 0.427-0.686; and >0.686, respectively. Eels achieved stage of GML-IV in body length range of 22.6-34.5 cm in Sumpyuh, 22.6-38.5 cm in Ajibarang, and 26.6-34.5 cm in Banyumas. There was no eel with the status of GML-IV in Sumbang, which had the most residential or functionally changed lands in its area. Based on these findings, can be concluded that the condition of rice fields or habitat of eel in functionally changed lands may affect eel’s growth and gonad maturation.

Abstract

Desa Candiwulan salah satu desa di Kabupaten Banjarnegara yang memiliki potensi dalam bidang perikanan yang didukung dengan cukup tersedia air meskipun pada musim kemarau. Salah satu jenis ikan yang  dibudidayakan adalah ikan lele dumbo.  Kendala yang sering dihadapi dalam budidaya ikan lele dumbo adalah  tahapan pendederan yaitu tahapan awal pemeliharaan benih setelah persediaan kuning telur habis. Tahapan benih dalam budidaya ikan lele dumbo merupakan tahapan kritis sehingga kelangsungan hidupnya rendah. Kelangsungan hidup benih ikan lele dumbo rentan terhadap penyakit yang disebabkan oleh bakteri sehingga perlu penanganan yang lebih intensif. Pencegahan perluasan penyakit dapat dilakukan secara dini, antara lain dengan peningkatan kekebalan tubuh dengan penambahan suplemen vitamin C dalam pakan. Tujuan melakukan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat adalah mendidik masyarakat desa Candiwulan menjadi paham dengan manajemen pemberian  suplemen vitamin C dalam pakan  untuk meningkatkan kelangsungan hidup benih ikan lele dumbo. Metode yang digunakan Partisipasi Aktif, meliputi pembekalan teori, praktek lapang, demonstrasi plot dan pendampingan. Hasil  realisasi kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dapat dibedakan dalam tiga tahap yaitu: persiapan, pelaksanaan dan evaluasi hasil. Persiapan dilakukan setelah melakukan survei. Pelaksanaan program dilakukan secara  fisik dan non fisik. Kegiatan fisik dievaluasi berdasarkan pemantauan sikap dan aktivitas peserta selama mengikuti ceramah serta praktikum, sedangkan  non fisik dievaluasi berdasarkan pemahaman peserta terhadap materi yang diberikan selama berlangsungnya ceramah dan diskusi. Evaluasi hasil program dengan menghitung pertumbuhan dan kelangsungan hidup benih ikan lele dumbo yang diberi suplemen vitamin C selama 2 bulan. Pemberian suplemen vitamin C dapat meningkatkan berat dan kelangsungan hidup benih ikan lele dumbo. Transfer teknologi dapat dilaksanakan oleh masyarakat terutama kelompok Karang Taruna Mardi Utomo di Desa Candiwulan Kecamatan Mandiraja Kabupaten Banjarnegara.Kata kunci: lele dumbo, pertumbuhan, vitamin C, desa Candiwulan

Abstract

Nilem (Osteochilus vittatus) is a popular freshwater commodity. Intensive production of nilem is often limited by water quality degradation. Recirculating aquaculture system is known to have advantage over this problem. Zeolites and water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica) are widely used in water remediation effort. This research aimed to find out water quality and nilems’ growth in two distinct recirculating system (zeolite filter based recirculating system; water spinach based recirculating system) as well as the relation between these variables. Furthermore, the difference in water quality and nilem’s growth between the two recirculating system was also evaluated.  The method used was a completely randomized experimental design with three replication. Nilems were reared in recirculating system with a density of 100 individuals for 60 days. Measurement of water quality and nilem’s growth was conducted on day 0, 30, and 60. The measured parameters included water temperature, TSS, DO, CO2, pH, NH3 and nilem’s weight. Analysis of data in was completely done with descriptive method. The result showed that water quality and nilem’s growth in recirculating system using zeolite filter and in recirculating system using water spinach filter was similar in general. Water quality in both recirculating system was sufficient to promote nilem’s growth.

Abstract

The increased of organic substance pollutans in waters as one of stimulate factors for phytoplankton growth. The input of organic matter from antrophogenic  activity tend to influence the trophic state of reservoir. The aims of this research are to examine the influence of organic waste to Panglima Soedirman reservoir concerning the trophic state, Redfield ratio N and P, also the relation with abundance of phytoplankton. This research used survey methods with purposive sampling technique on 7 obsevation stations with 3 repeating conducted on May-July 2013. The result of the research showed that the input of organic matter increased in BOD5, COD and ammonia in reservoir and trophic state. Redfield ratio was shown 19,13-65,82 which means P as a limiting factor. Relationship between N/P with the abundance of phytoplankton with degree was strong correlated with chlorophyta and chrysophyta.

Abstract.The functional community is described depends on the function of species in utilization food (guild). The utilization of food is a process of energy transfers in the food chain and it is represented in the pyramid of numbers. The objective of this research was to analyze the structure community of fish and the guild compositions in Sempor Reservoir. This research applied a survey with purposive random sampling technique with four station in Sempor Reservoir. Sampling at each site was taken 4 replication with interval 1 monts.  The composition and status of the guild is carried out by mesuring the guild based on the position of the mouth, tooth type, gill filter type, and ratio of body length and intestine. Guilds are composed of compositions depicted by a number pyramid based on the number of species per station. The results of this reserach captured 439 individuals consists of 14 species and belong to 6 families that dominated by Cyprinidae. The number and species of fish caught were the most at the Bangkong river inlet (142 individuals) and the lowest at the center of the reservoir (60 individuals). Comparison of the composition of fish guilds at the four stations in the Sempor Reservoir shows that the number of omnivorous and carnivorous fish is obtained more than herbivorous fish. The composition of the guild at Kalianget river inlet (72.9%) and Central reservoir (42.7%) was dominated by carnivorous fish, while at Pengantalan river inlet (52.9%) and Bangkong (58.9%) were dominated by omnivorous fish. The composition of herbivorous fish is at least at all stations so that in general the composition of fish guilds in the Sempor reservoir has not been balanced.Keywords: species composition, guild, pyramid of number,Sempor reservoir  Abstrak. Komunitas secara fungsional menggambarkan fungsi spesies yang ditentukan dengan pemanfaatan sumber makanan (guild). Pemanfaatan makanan dalam rantai makanan merupakan proses transfer energi dan digambarkan dengan piramida jumlah. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengkaji komposisi dan  tingkat status guild  komunitas ikan yang tertangkap di  perairan waduk Sempor. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode survei dan teknik purposive random sampling pada 4 stasiun di Waduk Sempor. Sampling dilakukan sebanyak 4 kali tiap bulan. Komposisi dan status guild dengan mengukur guild berdasarkan posisi mulut, tipe gigi, tipe tapis insang, dan rasio panjang tubuh dan usus. Komposisi guild digambarkan dengan piramida jumlah berdasarkan jumlah spesies per stasiun. Hasil penelitian diperoleh 439 individu terdiri dari  8 Familia dan 14 Spesies yang di dominasi familia Cyprinidae. Jumlah dan jenis individu ikan yang tertangkap paling banyak pada inlet sungai Bangkong (142 individu) dan terendah pada bagian tengah waduk (60 individu). Perbandingan komposisi guild ikan pada empat stasiun di waduk Sempor menunjukkan bahwa jumlah ikan omnivora dan karnivora lebih banyak diperoleh daripada ikan herbivora. Komposisi guild pada inlet sungai Kalianget (72,9%) dan Tengah waduk (42,7%) di dominasi oleh  ikan karnivora, sedangkan pada inlet sungai Pengantalan (52,9%) dan Bangkong (58,9%) di dominasi ikan omnivora. Komposisi ikan herbivora paling sedikit pada semua stasiun sehingga secara umum komposisi guild ikan di waduk Sempor belum seimbang.Kata kunci: komposisi jenis, guild, piramida jumlah, waduk Sempor
