Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate if there is a significant effect of neurolingistics programming method into students’ reading interest. Quantitative research was used to conduct the research by divided students into experimental and control class, who were cluster randomly selected. Both classes were given pre-test and post- test to find out whether there is a significance effect of treatment or not. Questionnaire was used to collect the data. The result of the research showed that students who were taught by neurolinguistics programming method were better than those were taught by habitual teachers’ strategy. It is concluded that neurolinguistics programming method gives a significant effect on students’ reading interest. Neurolinguistics programming method is recommended to English teacher to enhance their students’ interest in reading comprehension. From the result of this research, Neurolinguistics programming method is recommended to English teacher to enhance their students’ interest in reading comprehension.

Abstract

Metode langsung atau direct method adalah metode yang tepat digunakan untuk pengajaran keahlian berbicara atau speaking. Seorang oengajar yang menggunakan metode ini menyajikan materi dengan langsung menggunakan bahasa asing atau bahasatarget sebagai bahasa pengantar dan tanpa menggunakan bahasa pertama dari peserta didiknya. Jika ada kata-kata yang tidak dapat dipahami oleh peserta didik maka guru dapat mengartikan dengan menggunakan alat peraga atau mendemonstrasikannya. Melalui metode ini, peserta didik dapat langsung melatih kemahiran mereka dalam berbicara bahasa inggris serta berkomunikasi dengan teman dan gurunya.

Abstract

Pandemic Covid-19 has successfully forced the world shutdown several activities including educational activities. The educational system in Indonesia has been in change since the covid-19 pandemic spread across the country. Face-to-face learning is quickly being replaced by virtual learning. In this study researcher would like to know the students’ perspective on Online Learning during Covid–19 Pandemic. This research used qualitative descriptive method. The subjects of this research were the students at grade XI in 2019/2020 academic year at SMAN 2 Plus Sipirok. The research instruments were questionnaire that was described response to know their perspective in using online learning. The result identified student got problems and difficulties in conducting online learning because it was not effective. The students prefer face to face learning than by using WhatApp and Zoom application.

Abstract

Project based learning is a method that focusing on students centered by using project as the way of practicing knowledge. RELT subject is a subject learnt about research in English framework. This research aim is to know students’ perception of using project based learning in learning RELT subject. The researched also gain the feedback after using this method. This research using qualitative method. Technique sampling was purposive sampling. The sample was sixth students from sixth semester. Instrument of the research was interview. The data analysis using Miles and Huberman model. Using Project based learning in different level of students also give the difference result. Using PjBL in learning RELT subject was effective. It is because the students were in adult age where they can use their critical thinking. So, even this method still had a weak, but students and lecturer still can gain maximum knowledge and experience. Students also active to give feedback, they didn’t hide the problems, this make lecturer easier to fix the problems.

Abstract

The teaching and learning procedure was stated to be online in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.It is necessary to change from face-to-face instruction to online learning. In accordance with this, teachers must modify their online teaching and learning practices. This study concentrated on the methods teachers used to implement teaching writing throughout the epidemic COVID-19. The study's goals are to outline the teacher's approach to teaching writing and how to use it in widespread online learning. The study adopted a qualitative descriptive method. The participants of this research are two English teachers. The data were collected by using observation, interviews, and documents. Respondents were observed during the teaching learning process and interviewed to support observation data. The data collected were analyzed by using Creswell’s procedures which were organizing, preparing, looking, reading, coding, and interpreting data. The findings of this research concluded that from various strategies of teaching writing, the English teacher only implemented a collaborative learning strategy and summarizing strategy. Following the pandemic situation, the two strategies were done online through the zoom platform. By doing this research, it suggested that teachers adopt and practice more strategies in teaching, not only teaching writing but also teaching all skills in English.

Abstract

The researched also gain the feedback after using this method. This research using quantitative method by (Creswell 2014). Technique sampling was purposive sampling. The sample were sixty students from sixth semester. Instrument of the research was questionnaire. The data analysis using Likert scale. Using Project based learning in different level of students also give the difference result. Using PjBL in learning RELT subject was effective. It can be shown from the data result, the mean score was 76% students agree with the using of project based learning metjod in learning RELT subject. The data shown each statements answer was only 2-3 students who answered disagre. Students felt comfortable. Here researcher can know that the using of projects based learning accepted. Abstract

Introduction to The Problem: Reading interest is important for the students to learn; and reading materials is also important. Purpose: The purposes of this study were to identify students' reading interest and to explore the effectiveness of local-culture based learning materials to the students' interest of reading of English Department IAIN Padangsidimpuan. Design/methods/approach: It was done by using quasi-experimental research, with pre-test and post-test design. Data were collected by using reading interest questionnaires, and analysed by using SPSS 20 to know means, standard deviation, and independent t-test. Findings: After analysing, the students' reading interest in pre-test was 43.58 and in post-test was 60.11. Using local culture-based learning materials to students' reading interest has significant effect, because the value of significance of t-test value (0.000) smaller than 0.05, and hypotheses was accepted. Research implications/limitations: Thus, it was suggested to the lecturers to be more creative to use learning materials. It will be better if the learning materials given are having relationship to the students' life and culture in order to make them activating their schemata in reading, because it helps the students in comprehend what they learn.

Abstract

The condition of learning in the post-pandemic era varies; although the learning process can be fully offline, some universities do blended learning. A blended learning system also happened in UIN Syahada Padangsidimpuan. This paper aims to inform the needs of students in learning research in ELT subjects; it was one of the subjects distributed to English students at this university. The data were taken using mixed-method methods, and the data was collected using questionnaires and interviews. 61 (sixty-one) students filled out the questionnaires, and 10 (ten) students were asked to get interviews. The data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. After analyzing the data, it was found that the students liked to study using several methods. Although they have been stated to study with several methods, the highest percentage is Project-based Learning (PjBL). Based on the result, it can be concluded that the students need the PjBL in learning Research in English Language Teaching (RELT) subject matter. The students agreed that this learning method could prepare them to write a final task in their study

Abstract

Penelitian ini difokuskan pada masalah siswa dalam kemampuan membaca teks Bahasa Inggris. Masalah  yang dihadapi siswa adalah memahami kosa kata sulit dalam yang terdapat pada teks Bahasa Inggris. Selain itu, mereka juga kesulitan mengidentifikasi tata bahasa dan karakteristik teks yang dibaca. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperiment. Populasi nya adalah semua siswa di kelas delapan SMP Swasta Nuril Ilmi Padangsidimpuan tahun akademik 2017/2018. Sample yang diambil adalah berjumlah enam puluh dua orang yang dibagi ke dalam kelas control dan kelas eksperiment. Data dikumpulkan melalui pre-test dan post-test dalam bentuk tes pilihan berganda. Data dianalisis menggunakan rumus t-tes untuk membuktikan hypothesis. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan penghitungan t-tes pada post – test 3.408 dengan sig 2.00. Dengan demikian hypothesis diterima karena tcount ttable yaitu 3.408 2.00. Oleh karena itu dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada pengaruh penggunaan Venn diagram terhadap kemampuan membaca siswa kelas delapan SMP Swasta Nurul Ilmi Padangsidimpuan.

Abstract

This research focused on simile analysis and meaning on Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets novel. Simile is a figurative language that makes a comparison, showing similarities between two different things. Qualitative research is used in conducting this research. The result of the research has found 55 sentences of Simile on Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets from chapter one up to chapter nine. The author used Simile to describe emotion of characters, to explain circumstances and to raise the interesting impression in the novel.
