Abstract

This research aimed to know the category of students’ ability in analyzing metafunction that was a subject in discourse analysis. This research included into quantitative research. The population were all the students of TBI seventh semester in 2018/2019 academic year counted 90 students. Random sampling was used to get 60 students. The instrument to collect data was used test. The finding of the research was the students’ ability in analyzing metafunction included into very good category.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate if there is a significant effect of neurolingistics programming method into students’ reading interest. Quantitative research was used to conduct the research by divided students into experimental and control class, who were cluster randomly selected. Both classes were given pre-test and post- test to find out whether there is a significance effect of treatment or not. Questionnaire was used to collect the data. The result of the research showed that students who were taught by neurolinguistics programming method were better than those were taught by habitual teachers’ strategy. It is concluded that neurolinguistics programming method gives a significant effect on students’ reading interest. Neurolinguistics programming method is recommended to English teacher to enhance their students’ interest in reading comprehension. From the result of this research, Neurolinguistics programming method is recommended to English teacher to enhance their students’ interest in reading comprehension.

Abstract

Project based learning is a method that focusing on students centered by using project as the way of practicing knowledge. RELT subject is a subject learnt about research in English framework. This research aim is to know students’ perception of using project based learning in learning RELT subject. The researched also gain the feedback after using this method. This research using qualitative method. Technique sampling was purposive sampling. The sample was sixth students from sixth semester. Instrument of the research was interview. The data analysis using Miles and Huberman model. Using Project based learning in different level of students also give the difference result. Using PjBL in learning RELT subject was effective. It is because the students were in adult age where they can use their critical thinking. So, even this method still had a weak, but students and lecturer still can gain maximum knowledge and experience. Students also active to give feedback, they didn’t hide the problems, this make lecturer easier to fix the problems.

Abstract

Metode langsung atau direct method adalah metode yang tepat digunakan untuk pengajaran keahlian berbicara atau speaking. Seorang oengajar yang menggunakan metode ini menyajikan materi dengan langsung menggunakan bahasa asing atau bahasatarget sebagai bahasa pengantar dan tanpa menggunakan bahasa pertama dari peserta didiknya. Jika ada kata-kata yang tidak dapat dipahami oleh peserta didik maka guru dapat mengartikan dengan menggunakan alat peraga atau mendemonstrasikannya. Melalui metode ini, peserta didik dapat langsung melatih kemahiran mereka dalam berbicara bahasa inggris serta berkomunikasi dengan teman dan gurunya.

Abstract

The main focus of the research was to know the students’ descriptive writing in experiential function realizations and to find out the dominant process in that problems. Qualitative research was used in conducting this research. The participants of this research were 26 students at TBI-1 seventh semester of English Department IAIN Padangsidimpuan. The instrument to collect the data was the documents of students’ answer sheet in writing descriptive text. The data were analyzed by using Cresswell’s theory these are organizing and preparing data, reading data, coding data, generating description of data, representing data, and interpreting data. The result showed that the students’ writing descriptive text in experiential function realized on six process. The processes were material, verbal, mental, relational, behavioral and existential process. From the six processes, relational process realization was the dominant on students’ sentences. There are 47.67%process was categorized into relational process.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the students’ ability in writing descriptive text at grade VII SMP N 11 Padangsidimpuan. This research was descriptive quantitative method that was conducted at SMP N 11 Padangsidimpuan. The population of this research was the grade VII students of SMPN 11 Padangsidimpuan consist of 70 students from 3 classes as the sample of the research. The data were collected from students’ writing test. In writing test, there are generic structure and language features. The indicators divided into some sub indicators, generic structure is divided into identification and description. While language features is divided into some sub indicators, there are: the usage of simple present tense, specific participant, using attributive and identifying process, using adjective, and using classifier in nominal group. The mean score of the students’ writing descriptive text mastery was 78.5. The result of this research showed the students writing descriptive text mastery in good category.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between students' habits of listening to English songs and their vocabulary mastery. This research uses the quantitative method with a correlational research type. The sample of this study was 22 students of class XI MAN Tapanuli Selatan. Data were collected using questionnaires and tests and analyzed using the product moment test. The results of this study show that there is a correlation between the habit of listening to English songs and vocabulary mastery in the category with the value of rcount ˃ rtabel (0.442 ˃ 0.423). Therefore, the t-test shows that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected.

Abstract

Reading is finding information in what we read. Sometimes readers had difficulties with it. This study aimed to identify the students’ difficulties in reading and to identify the solution of AI that they used. The sources are the English students at UIN Syahada Padangsidimpuan. It is a mixed-method study by using closed interviews, questionnaires, and giving reading tests, and to get the data. Data had been analyzed by reading, grouping, coding, and giving interpretation, then by descriptive statistics. The findings showed that the students had difficulties in finding detailed information, finding the contrasting ideas, and identifying major sentence. Then, 65% of the students used AI tool; the most commonly used are Chat-GPT and Google Translate. They knew a lot about AI; however, they were not interested in using it because it is difficult to understand. It is implied that the students need to learn more to be able to understand the contents while reading English texts. They also need to be able to use many applications in their English reading, and be careful not to be suspended in using AI. The English lecturers need to teach the students to practice reading ability and using AI carefully.

Abstract

This research is intended to investigate the correlation between students’ habit of watching movie and their speaking mastery. This research used quantitative research with the correlational research type. The sample of this research was 33 students from the fifth semester of English department UIN Syekh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary Padangsimpuan. The data was collected using questionnaire and test and analyzed by using product moment test. The finding of this research showed that there was a correlation between habit of watching movie and speaking in average category with the calculation rcount  ˃ rtable (0.566 ˃ 0.339). Therefore the test of t-test showed that alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. It can be conclude that there was a significant correlation between habit of watching movie and speaking mastery at the fifth semester of English department UIN Syahada Padangsidimpuan

Abstract

The research study conducted at Grade X SMA Negeri 1 Simangumban demonstrated a significant positive effect of utilizing the Story Face Strategy on students' reading comprehension of narrative text. The experimental quantitative method with a pre-test and post-test design involving 44 randomly sampled students out of a population of 88 students revealed that students' comprehension of narrative text improved significantly after implementing the Story Face Strategy. TheT-test results (tcount  ttable), supported the accep-tance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha) and the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0). Therefore, it can be inferred that the Story Face Strategy had a notable impact on enhancing students' reading compr- ehension of narrative text at Grade X SMA Negeri 1 Simangumban
