Abstract

This study examines how domestic violence, particularly against children, is portrayed in the film Tarian Terakhir (The Last Dance). This film was chosen because it presents an emotional story that is close to social reality, where violence is often hidden behind the walls of the home. A qualitative approach was used with content analysis to analyze six main scenes that depict physical and psychological violence. The results of the study indicate that violence in the film is not only a dramatic element but also reflects power imbalances within family relationships. This finding is supported by data from SIMFONI-PPA and KPAI in 2024, which show high rates of violence against children. Based on media content theory, the film is understood as a medium that shapes public understanding and critiques the normalization of violence. However, this study has limitations as it only analyzes one film and does not involve the perspectives of victims or experts. Therefore, it is recommended that future research adopt a cross-media and multidisciplinary approach to examine the representation of violence within families more broadly and deeply.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the visual storytelling strategy implemented in the Ujung Jalan segment of the Masrang YouTube channel. Using an organizational communication framework, the research explores how creative processes and communication decisions are shaped through interactions between the channel’s creator and two collaborators involved in content production. Employing a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews, the findings reveal that the use of quiet, slow-paced, and narration-free visuals is a deliberate strategy designed to differentiate Masrang from typical travel vlogs. This strategy goes beyond delivering information; it also creates a reflective emotional space for the audience. The results show that Masrang operates through a collaborative communication model resembling a micro-organizational structure, where content is developed through idea exchange, role coordination, and shared objectives. As such, Masrang serves as an example of how organizational communication can be applied within independent content creation rooted in a creative community.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the background of women's participation in general and specifically, women who participate in electoral politics as legislative candidates. Using phenomenological methods, the study states that the backgrounds of women who are involved in electoral politics include following in the footsteps of other people who have already entered the world of politics, wanting women to play more roles, and being encouraged by other people. The participation of women in politics still mostly comes from external sources, rather than being purely driven by a desire to change women's conditions due to patriarchal relations in society. Meanwhile, the most common obstacles experienced by women in politics are the double burden of having to play both domestic and public roles, social and cultural inequality, and being underestimated as women. Regarding the communication strategy used by female legislative candidates, they stated that they communicate more with female prospective voters, explain programs related to women, children, and teenagers, and discuss issues related to women to attract votes. They believe that gender similarity helps them communicate effectively and achieve their political goals.

Abstract

Abstract

Research critically investigates how the responsibilities of the sandwich generation are represented in the film Home Sweet Loan (2024), by Sabrina Rochelle Kalangie. The sandwich generation refers to individuals burdened with caring for aging parents while also supporting children or siblings. This research applies a qualitative approach using content analysis, grounded in McQuail’s media content theory and the concept of responsibility by Burhanudin and the Ministry of Education and Culture. The analysis of ten key scenes reveals that the character Kaluna embodies layered responsibilities financial, domestic, emotional, and relational. The film not only reflects the realities of the sandwich generation in urban Indonesian society but also critiques unequal familial expectations. Thus, Home Sweet Loan functions as a medium of representation and social critique, addressing the structural pressures faced by today’s younger generation.

Abstract

The rapid growth of internet users in Indonesia not only has positive impacts but also increases the risk of of Online Gender-Based Violence (OGBV). Inadequate digital literacy increases the vulnerability of social media users to violence and privacy violations in the digital space. The study aims to explore the potential for KGBO and identify various forms of violence experienced by Second Account users on Instagram. A qualitative method with a phenomenological approach was employed to explore the subjective experiences of Second Account users who were victims of violence, through various Instagram features such as direct messages, comments, or the sharing of inappropriate content. The findings of this study reveal that the digital space is not entirely safe, control over self-image is vulnerable to manipulation, and the risk of violence is experienced across genders, by both women and men. The impact of KGBO manifests itself in the form of psychological disturbances in the real world, including chronic anxiety, depression, loss of a sense of security, and fear of self-expression.

Abstract

Public spaces are social interaction arenas that should ideally be safe and inclusive for all members of society, including women. However, in practice, women still frequently experience violence, harassment, and discrimination in public spaces, which reduces their sense of safety and limits their social participation. This condition reflects an academic concern regarding the low level of public awareness about the importance of safe and inclusive public spaces. This study aims to analyze the social campaign conducted by INFID through the Human Rights Festival (Festival HAM) program in raising public awareness of this issue. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, involving informants consisting of the organizers and participants of the Human Rights Festival. Data analysis uses the interactive model of Miles and Huberman and is validated through source triangulation to ensure data reliability. The results show that the INFID Human Rights Festival social campaign was implemented through four stages based on Ostergaard’s social campaign theory: problem identification, planning, campaign management, and problem reduction. In the identification stage, it was found that low public awareness and the limited availability of safe spaces for women were the main background issues of the campaign. In the planning stage, strategies were focused on the younger generation through an event-based campaign approach combined with social media. In the management stage, the campaign was realized through participatory activities such as discussions, workshops, and exhibitions. Meanwhile, in the problem reduction stage, there was an increase in awareness, changes in perspectives, and early indications of reducing the contributing factors of the problem. The social campaign through the INFID Human Rights Festival is considered effective as a public communication strategy in building public awareness of the importance of safe and inclusive public spaces for women. From an Islamic perspective, social campaigns are communication processes aimed at encouraging society toward good (amar ma’ruf) and preventing wrongdoing (nahi munkar), using persuasive and educational approaches to promote positive behavioural change.
