Abstract

The study of inhibitory activity against the a-glucosidase enzyme of Kalanchoe pinnata Pers. leaves has been carried out. In vitro, the methanol extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction and methanol-water (1:1) fraction inhibited a-glucosidase enzyme activities with IC50 value 72.8, 982.6, 194.6 and 293.8 ug/mL, respectively. In vivo, the study was conducted in normal ddY mice by using oral glucose tolerance test. The administration of methanol extract dose 0.5, 1.0 g/kg of body weight and ethyl acetate fraction dose 1.0 g/kg of body weight can suppress the blood glucose level at 30 min significantly (p<0.05) if compared with control after oral administration of sucrose (3 g/kg of body weight), and their activity were similar with acarbose 0.01 g/kg of body weight (p>0.05).

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to know (1) Patients’ characteristics (2) The most etiology of leucorrhoea (3) Association between clinical manifestations or genital symp-toms with etiology of leucorrhoea (4) Therapy management of leucorrhoea by obstet-ric-gynecologist and venereologist (5) Factors influenced the treatment of leucorrhoea (6) Compliance with hospital therapeutic guidelines. The study was cross sectional and retrospective. A total of 437 patients hospitalized from January 2006-December 2007 were included. The results showed that leucorrhoea was found in 17,6% of patients at sexually transmitted disease clinic and 82,4% of patients at obstetric-gynecology clinic. The majority of patients were in productive age, married, and housewife, with most of genital symptoms were pruritus and curd-like vaginal dis-charge. The most of etiology leucorrhoea in this study was candidiasis. Statistically, there were association between genital symptoms with candidiasis and bacterial vaginosis (p<0,05). The specific genital symptoms of candidiasis were pruritus and curd-like vaginal discharge, whereas for bacterial vaginosis were homogeneous and increased vaginal discharge. There were different treatments of vaginal discharge be-tween obstetric-gynecologist and venereologist. For candidiasis, the obstetric-gyne-cologist preferred to use fluconazole, and metronidazole+nystatin (Flagistatin®); whereas the venereologist used clotrimazole and itraconazole. For bacterial vaginosis, obstet-ric-gynecologist used clindamycin and metronidazole+nystatin (Flagistatin®), while venereologist preferred to use metronidazole. For trichomoniasis there was no different treatment between obstetric-gynecologist and venereologist. In pregnancy, antibiot-ics used to treat leucorrhoea were clindamycin, fluconazole, metronidazole+nystatin (Flagistatin®), metronidazole, and nystatin. Prescribing compliance with the hospi-tal therapeutics guidelines were 37,8%. The type of antibiotics used were azitromycin, clindamycin, clotrimazole, doxycycline, fluconazole, itraconazole, ketoconazole, and metronidazole. Statistics analysis by Logistic regression (Cl 95%) showed that factors influenced the treatment of leucorrhoea included genital symptoms (OR = 0,975), risk factors (OR = 0,917), etiology (OR = 1,103), and comorbid diseases (OR = 1,387).

Abstract

A research on the antibacterial activity of n-hexane extract and the ethyl acetate Garcinia rigida Miq. Bark against Salmonella typhosa ATCC 14028, Staphylo-coccus aureus ATCC 29213 dan Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633 has been carried out. The research was included the determination of the growth inhibition zona with the cylinder diffusion method and the minimum inhibitory concentration with the petri dish dilution method. The result of this study showed that the n-hexane extract of Garcinia rigida Miq.bark did not give the growth inhibition zona to Salmonella typhosa ATCC 14028, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213 and Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633, but gave the minimum inhibitory concentration at 500 mg/ml for Sal-monella typhosa ATCC 14028, 250 mg/ml for Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213 and 125 mg/ml for Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633. Whereas the ethyl acetate extract of Garcinia rigida Miq. bark gave the growth inhibition zona of concentra-tion 500, 250 and 125 mg/ml with average diameter to Salmonella typhosa ATCC 14028 were about 11.15, 9.05, 7.55 mm, to Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213 were about 14.25, 11.10, 8.95 mm and to Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633 were about 20.97, 15.00, 10.07 mm. The minimum inhibitory concentration to ethyl acetate extract to Salmonella typhosa ATCC 14028, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213 and Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633 were about 250, 62,5 and 31,25 mg/ml respec-tively. As a conclusion, the ethyl acetate extract of Garcinia rigida Miq. bark had more better antibacterial activity than the n-hexane extract of Garcinia rigida Miq. Bark.

Abstract

Triterpenoids from n-hexane extract of Garcinia picrorrhiza Miq. stem bark. Chromatographic separation of n-hexane extract of dried Garcinia picrorrhiza Miq. stem bark (Cluciaceae) furnished two triterpenoids, identified as 3oxo-7,24-euphadien-26oic acid (1), 3β-hydroxy-7,24-euphadien-26 oic acid (2). The structure of compounds were determined by using UV-vis, FT-IR, 1D and 2D NMR techniques.

Abstract

The investigation for antifungal effect of medicinal plants, combination infusion of Piper bettle leaves, Punica granatum Fructus Cortec, Curcuma domestica Rhizome. The tested demartophyta used Candida albicans. This research using dilution method to determine of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and difusion method to determine zone inhibition around of disc. The results of determination of MIC showed that combination infusion Piper bettle leaves with Punica granatum Fructus Cortex against C. albicans respectively, 31,2 mg/ml : 7,8 mg/ml; 15,6 mg/ml : 15,6 mg/ml and 7,8 mg/ml : 31,2 mg/ml. The determination for zone inhibition from 3 concentration of infusion of Piper bettle leaves with 3 concentration of Punica granatum Fructus Cortex with 9 combination against C. albicans showed that combination of two infusion is the larger than the single infusion.
