Abstract

Menopause is a natural phase experienced by women, generally at the age of 45–55 years, which is marked by a decrease in the hormone estrogen. Menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, sleep disturbances, and mood swings often reduce quality of life. The use of hormone therapy (HRT) has the risk of side effects, so herbal complementary therapy is a safer and more culturally appropriate alternative. However, in rural areas such as Dusun I Sekip, Candirejo Village, community literacy regarding the use of herbs is still low. This activity aims to improve the quality of life of menopausal women through education about natural and safe herbal plant-based complementary therapies. The activity was carried out in the form of counseling and interactive discussions on May 8, 2025 at the Candirejo Village Hall. The methods used included lectures, discussions, and demonstrations with leaflet media. There were 33 participants present. The eval_uation was carried out through active participation and a question and answer session. Participants showed high enthusiasm, as evidenced by their active questions and discussions. There was an increase in understanding about menopause and how to manage its symptoms using local herbs such as temulawak, turmeric, ginger, and betel leaves. Participants also gained skills in mixing simple herbal preparations. Education on the application of complementary herbs has been proven effective in increasing knowledge and awareness of menopausal women. This approach encourages the use of local resources and reduces dependence on chemical drugs, as well as strengthening the empowerment of women in rural areas. It is recommended that educational activities such as this be carried out sustainably and integrated with village health services. The community is expected to form herbal learning communities and increase collaboration with health workers to monitor and assist in the use of herbs safely and appropriately.

Abstract

Maternal mortality of 10% occurs during the postpartum period and is caused by postpartum infection due to lack of wound care, 42% due to bleeding, 13% due to eclampsia and 11% postpartum complications. Perineal wounds are one of the predisposing factors for postpartum infection. Rapid healing of perineal stitches during the postpartum period is expected to prevent postpartum mothers from the dangers of infection and physiological complaints. Honey is a liquid with a distinctive sweet taste produced by honey bees that suck nectar found in flowers or in leaf axils. Honey is believed to be an alternative medicine, because it has many benefits, namely easy to digest, is a source of vitamins and minerals, especially containing vitamin C, Iron and Calcium, contains high antioxidants, essential and nonessential amino acids, and has antibiotic substances. Honey in the wound healing process is more towards anti-inflammatory, antioxidant functions, stimulates the cleaning of dead tissue. Determination of the form of honey administration for wound care must be chosen appropriately so that the potential of honey can be utilized optimally. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of honey to accelerate the healing of perineal wounds in postpartum mothers. This study was conducted using a descriptive analytical method with a quasi-experiment. Respondents consisted of 20 physiological postpartum mothers. Data were obtained through interviews and observations. The results showed that perineal wound care using honey resulted in 12 respondents (60%) experiencing slow wound healing and 8 respondents (40%) experiencing fast wound healing. Honey can be recommended for healing perineal wounds in postpartum mothers because it has been proven effective in accelerating wound healing.

Abstract

Breast milk (ASI) is the most optimal source of nutrition for babies during the first six months of growth, without the need for additional liquids or solid foods. Green bean juice is a drink that contains lactagogue and polyphenols. A lactagogue is a food that can increase and facilitate the production of breast milk, while polyphenols can stimulate the release of prolactin, which increases milk production and triggers oxytocin to facilitate milk secretion. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the differences in breast milk production after delivery before and after consumption of green bean juice in PMB Kurnia, Deli Tua District, Deli Serdang Regency in 2023. The research used in this study is quasi-experimental. Using a single-group pretest-posttest design. The study and sample consisted of a total of 10 participants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation forms and questionnaires from 1 to 8. until June 2023 in Deli Tua district Deli Serdang regency PMB Kurnia. An independent Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used for statistical analysis. The results showed that women who gave birth after consuming green bean juice had an average breast milk production of 2.90 compared to 1.20 before consuming green bean juice. The average difference in breast milk production between the two groups was 1.70 with a p-value of 0.004 (ρ andlt; 0.05). This indicates the rejection of the null hypothesis (Ho) and the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha) which is the effect of green bean juice on increasing production of breast milk in postpartum women after its consumption compared to the period before its consumption in PMB Kurnia. Kurnia, Deli Tua District, Deli Serdang Regency in 2023. From the results of this study, it is hoped that health workers can motivate postpartum women to consume mung beans which can increase breast milk production.

Abstract

Perineal tears are those that happen there. when the baby is born spontaneously or episiotomy. If the perineal tear is not treated immediately, infection will occur and delay wound healing. Infection ranks as the fourth highest cause of the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR). Efforts are being made to prevent infection and accelerate wound healing with alternative medicine by giving pineapple which is processed into pineapple juice. Pineapple contains the enzyme beromelain where this enzyme aims to heal all wounds, both perineal wounds. This study aims to determine the effect of giving pineapple juice on the healing of 2nd degree women with postpartum perineal wounds at the Tanjung Pratama Clinic, Deli Tua District, Deli Serdang Regency. This study used a quasi-experimental study type with a group design pretest posttest. The population in this study was postpartum women who experiencand ed perineal tears Using the technique of purposive sampling, around 16 people were sampled. Data analysis using the Wilcoxon test. Prior analysis results being given the average value of perineal wound healing was 6.13 (50%) while the average perineal wound healing after being given an average value of 0.38 (81.3%) obtained a p value = 0.000 0.05. this means that giving pineapple juice has a healing effect on perineal wounds.
