Abstract

This study evaluates the user experience of BPJS Kesehatan in Sei Agul Village, Medan City, focusing on benefits, challenges, and satisfaction levels with the services. BPJS Kesehatan, as a national health insurance program, aims to provide affordable healthcare access to the community. The findings reveal that many users benefit from BPJS, particularly in reducing healthcare costs. However, challenges such as long queues, complicated administrative processes, and difficulties in obtaining referrals to specialist doctors are commonly encountered. The average user satisfaction with the services is rated at 7/10, though disparities in service quality based on BPJS classes and issues with the claims process remain. This research employs a qualitative method through interviews and observations to explore user experiences. Recommendations include improving queue management systems, increasing medical staff, enhancing public information dissemination, strengthening digital technology, equalizing service quality, and expediting the referral process. These efforts are expected to enhance the overall user experience and satisfaction with BPJS Kesehatan services.

Abstract

The state guarantees citizens' healthcare services as regulated in the Constitution. The Indonesia Health Card (KIS) is a tangible form of the government’s effort to realize equitable and easily accessible healthcare quality for all Indonesians. However, the implications of this program have not been evenly distributed, as experienced by students in the social welfare department of Sumatera Utara University class of 2021. KIS is very beneficial for students who are aware of and can access it, but the program’s effectiveness is still hindered by uneven information distribution and complex administrative procedures. Recommendations are provided to enhance information dissemination and simplify administrative procedures to ensure the KIS program is more inclusive and easily accessible to all students.

Abstract

Casework is a process used by humanitarian service agencies to assist individuals in addressing social functioning issues. This process includes several stages: engagement, assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, and termination. This study examines the application of the casework method with a client named SM, a 30-year-old widow with two children facing economic and social limitations. Through interviews and observations using the BPSS (Bio, Psycho, Social, Spiritual) approach, the practitioner assessed the client’s condition, revealing that SM struggled with economic difficulties and challenges in providing adequate care for her children. In the intervention stage, SM was provided with a program to develop weaving skills, which led to the production of woven mats, curtains, and decorations. Monitoring was conducted to ensure that the client adhered to the program, ultimately increasing SM’s income to Rp 40,000 per day. In the termination stage, the cooperation between the practitioner and the client was concluded as the agreed-upon goals had been achieved. This study demonstrates that with the right approach, individuals facing social and economic limitations can develop their potential and improve their well-being.

Abstract

The family plays a central role in shaping children’s growth and well-being, particularly in marginalized communities where access to education and healthcare is limited. This study aims to describe the forms of family support in improving the well-being of children at Sanggar Anak Sungai Deli, a non-formal educational institution located along the banks of the Deli River in Medan City. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the research involved observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The informants included families of children, sanggar administrators, and children actively participating in the program. The findings reveal that family support is manifested in six main indicators: (1) positive emotional relationships, (2) provision of safety and comfort, (3) instilling positive values, (4) support for education and talent development, (5) protection from negative influences, and (6) partial fulfillment of basic needs. These supports contribute significantly to children’s emotional, social, and intellectual well-being, although the physical aspect remains less fulfilled due to economic constraints. Despite limited financial resources, families demonstrate care and commitment to supporting their children’s development. Sanggar Anak Sungai Deli serves as an essential partner by providing a safe and supportive learning environment. This study concludes that family involvement, combined with community-based interventions such as SASUDE, is crucial in ensuring holistic child well-being. The implications highlight the importance of strengthening collaboration between families, community organizations, and government to address gaps in child welfare programs in marginalized areas.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the high number of stunted children found in stunting locations, namely in Kelurahan Kahean and Sigulang-gulang, Kecamatan Siantar Utara, Kota Pematangsiantar. This study also found indications of inadequate parenting patterns in terms of nutrition and child health care. This condition is a serious concern because stunting not only affects children's physical growth but also influences their cognitive development and future quality of life. To understand this phenomenon in depth, this study used a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, literature studies, and documentation, involving six main informants. The results of the study revealed that 4 of the 6 parents with stunted children practiced inadequate parenting, particularly neglectful parenting, which was the most dominant parenting style. This neglectful parenting style was characterized by a lack of adequate supervision and attention to providing nutritious food and health care for children. Parents who apply this parenting style tend to consistently ignore their children's nutritional and health needs, thereby increasing the risk of stunting. In addition, some parents also apply a permissive parenting style, which is characterized by allowing children to freely choose food without clear boundaries or rules. As a result, children often consume unhealthy foods and have irregular eating schedules. In addition to parenting factors, limited socioeconomic conditions also exacerbate the risk of stunting. Parents' low level of knowledge about balanced nutrition and child health care further increases the likelihood of children experiencing stunting. This shows that economic and educational factors are major obstacles in efforts to prevent stunting in the Kecamatan Siantar Utara.

Abstract

The digital era has fundamentally changed the way families communicate and interact. This study aims to analyze the social dynamics of families in the context of communication patterns between parents and adolescents in the digital era. Using a qualitative approach with a literature study method, this study examines various academic literature published in the period 2018-2025 to understand changes in family communication patterns due to the penetration of digital technology. The results of the study indicate that digital technology has created a paradox in family communication, where easy access to information and communication can actually create a communication gap between generations. Traditional face-to-face communication patterns have been transformed into digital communication mediated by various social media platforms and instant messaging applications. This phenomenon has an impact on the quality of parent-child relationships, patterns of socialization of family values, and dynamics of generational conflict. This study identifies four main communication patterns in digital families: hybrid communication (digital-analog combination), disconnected communication (digital divide), reactive communication (response to technology), and adaptive communication (adjustment to the digital era). The implications of these findings indicate the need for a balanced family communication strategy between the use of digital technology and maintaining the intimacy of direct communication to maintain family social welfare.

Abstract

The family is the first environment that shapes a child's personality and social behavior. However, in broken homes, emotional conditions and parenting patterns are often disrupted due to separation or the absence of one parent. This has an impact on the process of shaping children's social behavior in their daily lives. This study aims to analyze the social behavior of children from broken homes in Kampung Aur, Kelurahan Aur, Medan City. A qualitative approach with a case study design was used. The main informants consisted of five children from broken homes who were selected using the snowball technique. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using descriptive qualitative methods. The results of the study showed that the children's social behavior had not developed optimally in most indicators, namely cooperation, sharing, competition, empathy, sympathy, imitation, social support, and social acceptance. The main obstacles arise from inconsistent parenting patterns, lack of emotional support, and an unsupportive social environment. Therefore, the active involvement of parents, guardians, and the community is essential to shape and nurture children's social behavior in a sustainable manner.
