Abstract

Big flood disaster in South Sulawesi Province has occurred on January 22 and 23 2019. This event is one of the disasters that is quite severe for the City of Makassar and its surroundings. This incident encouraged the community service team to serve the community. Community service program UNHAS-Community Partnership Program (PPMU-PK-M) has partnered with one of the business units (UD Prima Teknik) which is engaged in fence welding and building maintenance needs. UD Prima Teknik is located in Antang Village, Manggala District, Makassar City. UD Prima Teknik is a partner who has helped the community service team in designing mobile stoves fueled with coal and biomass briquettes. The stove that has been designed has been socialized and used for cooking needs in meeting food needs in disasters areas. This stove is designed from iron, strong, resilient, and easy to carry anywhere (especially to disasters areas). The fuel used on the stove is coal, wood or wood charcoal (biomass) briquettes. The choice of fuel, besides being easy to carry on a trip, is also a very low risk of danger compared to gas stoves that are mostly used by the community at this time. If in conditions of limited fuel briquettes and wood charcoal, then this stove can also use wood fuel that is in the vicinity of the disaster area. In disaster conditions in an area, the difficulty that is often experienced by the community is the difficulty of the supply / assistance of ready-to-eat food because of limited kitchen facilities (tools for cooking).

Abstract

In Bukaka area, Bone Regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, a small scale industry of red-bricks with clay as the raw material is exist, which have been operated by the local people in generations for decades. From field observation, a problem was identified related to the quality of the bricks produced, which mostly not fulfilled the quality standards. The purpuse of this community service activiy is to conduct a series of laboratory tests to define and formulate recommendations in order to improve the quality of the raw material and the bricks. Methods of laboratory works performed in this activity include mineralogical analysis (XRD) and chemical analysis (XRF) for clay samples, as well as dimension test, baking test, colour, saline content, absorbtion, compressive strength and sound test for the bricks. The results showed that the clay material composed of feldspar, quartz, kaolinite, and calcite; with high content of iron (Fe2O3 up to 8.85%), thus it is recommended to conduct a decreasing grade of the iron content using magnetic separator method. Dimension of the bricks produced by the local workers were generally far above the quality standard; thus it is recommended to conduct an increasing size of the bricks, particulary in their thickness and width. For the bricks baking, it is recommended to perform an increasing temperature and duration of the baking in order to gain a better quality. Absorbtion of the bricks were also averagely low, 0.5-0.6 gr/dm2/minute, thus it needs to be treated carefully at the time of the raw material mixing. Uncompressed strength test of the bricks resulted average value of 24.47 kg/cm2, which indicated a Class-25 type of the bricks, and having a good quality of sound.

Abstract

The Baturappe prospect located at southern part of Sulawesi island, Indonesia, is a hydrothermal mineralization district which is characterized by occurrence of epithermal silver-base metal deposits. The mineralization is hosted in basaltic-andesitic volcanic rocks of the late Middle-Miocene Baturappe Volcanics. More than 20 units of quartz – base metal veins are distributed in the area, and one of the most significant is the Bincanai vein. This study is aimed to characterize the mineral paragenesis and to elucidate the physicochemical conditions of the formation of the deposit on the basis of mineral assemblage and fluid inclusion mictrothermometry. Sulphide assemblages in the vein indicate an intermediate sulfidation state epithermal; beside galena and sphalerite as the early stage minerals, chalcopyrite, tennantite, and tetrahedrite are also identified as the later stage. Microthermometric study of fluid inclusions in quartz indicates formation temperature of the vein ranges from about 230 to 280°C Histogram of homogenization temperature suggests that there are two generations of hydrothermal fluid responsible for the ore mineralization in the vein; the higher temperature range represents formation temperature of the base metal (galena, sphalerite), while the lower temperature range is correlate with the precipitation of the rest relatively lower temperature sulphides (chalcopyrite, pyrite, tetrahedrite, tennantite, polybasite, and Bi-Ag-Cu-Fe-bearing sulfide). The sequence is also consistent with the mineral paragenetic. The mean of salinity (2.0–2.5 wt.% NaCl eq.) indicates that fluid responsible for the mineralization in the Bincanai vein is relatively low-salinity fluid.

Abstract

Barru area comprises four sedimentary sequences that include Cretaceous flysch sediment of Balangbaru Formation in the lower part, overlain by Tertiary terrestrial sediments of Mallawa, shallow-marine redeposited carbonate of Tonasa and volcaniclastics sediment of Camba Formations in the upper part. Three of these sequences show characteristics of deep-marine depositional system that are associated with turbidite – debris flow facies and post-depositional deformation structures. Their occurrences are interpreted to have been controlled by regional tectonics, in particular during the redeposition of the Tonasa Formation carbonates and also the volcaniclastic-epiclastic of the Camba Formation. The difficulties in defining sedimentary basin in this area might possibly be, in part, due to the basin was modified during or after the depositional period. Therefore, it is very hard to trace the basin continuously in only one site.

Abstract

This community service activity has been carried out at the Miftahul Jannah Putri Tahfidzul Qur'an Islamic Boarding School in Pamanjengan, Moncongloe, Maros Regency. This Islamic Boarding School for Qur’an Memorizer fosters 10 children from families with underprivileged economic conditions. The capacity of the pondok buildings can accommodate more number of students, but water supply is a big problem. Therefore, the management of the school has attempted to add groundwater production wells through financing from other parties. Drilling was carried out to a depth of 60 meters. The well pumping test with a discharge of 1,440 liters/hour showed a change in the groundwater level to become static at a decrease of 1.60 meters. Thus, the condition prior to this community service activity was that there were production wells but had not been equipped with submersible pump wells. Information from the pre-test indicated that the students still felt limited clean water. Therefore, through Hasanuddin University's P2C-IKU activities, pump installations are carried out to be able to utilize groundwater from the drilled wells. The results of the post-test at the end of this activity showed that 83.30% of respondents believed that there would be sufficient water supply to meet the needs of the cottage, and 57.14% of respondents understood how to operate and maintain submersible pumps.

Abstract

Community service activities UNHAS-Community Partnership Program (PPMU-PK-M) has partnered with the community and coal miners in Sengengpalie Village, Lamuru District, Bone Regency, South Sulawesi Province. The partners involved in this socialization and development are a community group called the “Mario-Mario Community Forum”. Partners involved contribute as participants and facilitators in the implementation of community service activities (PkM). This PkM activity is in the form of socializing and fostering Good Mining Practices for miners and the community around coal mines. Environmental problems and post-coal mining land conditions at community service (PkM) locations pose enormous problems and risks. These problems include the formation of acid mine drainage which is very dangerous to the environment and the lives of people and other living things around the mining area. The second problem is the opening of pits/voids that are not properly reclaimed. The Unhas PkM team on this occasion will be presented with the community and coal miners to find solutions and anticipate possible problems that will arise due to coal mining activities in the future. The solution offered is to provide guidance to miners and the community around the coal mining area to apply Good Mining Practices (GMP) so that miners and the community work together in the implementation of coal mining from the initial stage (planning) to the reclamation stage (post-work). This socialization and development of Good Mining Practice is expected to contribute to producing Good Mining Practice practices for the target audience (miners and the community) in the mining area. The post-mining land area in the service area can be managed jointly by implementing a good environmental monitoring and management plan. Thus, acid mine drainage in post-mining areas can be prevented and post-mining holes (void) can be reclaimed properly and can be used for its designation for communities in post-mining areas. The reclamation activities are directed at turning the post-mining land into rice fields, cattle and goat areas or plantation areas. The results of the quantitative analysis of the pre-test and post-test showed that there was an increase in the knowledge/understanding of the participants by 43% to know/understand and 37% to really know/understand Good Mining Practice. The increase in the percentage of respondents' knowledge shows that the implementation of this community service activity can be said to have reached the target, namely coal miners and the community have understood and understood GMP or Good Mining Practice.

Abstract

Operasi produksi PT. Ifishdeco menggunakan bantuan alat gali muat excavator Komatsu PC 300 dimana terjadi penurunan produksi bijih nikel sebesar 19,94%. Target produksi sebesar 149.934 mt, namun capaian produksi hanya sebesar 116.603mt. Top event penurunan capai target produksi memiliki empat top down, yaitu faktor pengisian, kesiapan fisik alat, efektivitas kerja, dan waktu edar alat gali muat. Abstract Analysis of Decrease in Nickel Ore Production Targets Using the Fault Tree Analysis Method in PT Ifishdeco, Southeast Sulawesi Province. Production process meant produce product with beneficial value. At the mining company, production was very important, so it needed to be well-planned. Company was making target amount of digging material to be produced in long term, middle term, and short term. Production operation at PT Ifishdeco utilized digger loader equipment namely excavator Komatsu PC 300. There was decreasing in nickel ore production of 19,94%. Production target was 149,934 mt, but the company was only able to meet 116,603 mt. Objective of this study was to know main factor and probability value which caused the low production performance. One of methods to be used to analyze the main factor was Fault Tree Analysis (FTA). Top down logical equations of Fault Tree Analysis was substituted into Boolean algebra to get minimal cut set. Minimal cut set was a formula of the top down and used to calculate probability. Top event of the decreasing of the production target had four top downs which were filling factor, mechanical availability, effectivity of use, and cycle time of digger loader. Based on the highest probability of basic event which value was equal to 1, the main factor caused the decreasing of productivity were lifetime of equipment, unscheduled of maintenance, low quality of equipment, and selective mining. Abstract

Craftsman group of earth brick at Ballaparang sub village, Panyyangkalang village of Bajeng Subdistrict in the Gowa Regency has long been produced bricks mainly for the construction materials in the Makassar City and Gowa. However, some problems arisen by the craftsman such as brick quality produced is crack easily and the brick maturity during firing is difficult to control. To solve the problem, it was performed the counseling activity with the aims at increasing the brick quality through firing test with controlled temperature and time. The compressive strength test was conducted and compared to the brick produced by craftsman. In addition, mineralogical and chemical testing of raw material was performed using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) methods respectively. Compressive strength test was carried out for both bricks produced by craftsman and brick fired in laboratory using Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS) method. Testing results show that clay raw materials were composed of feldspar (plagioclase), quartz, illite, nacrite, and magnetite. Chemical testing exhibits that iron oxides (Fe2O3) is high so it is suggested to reduce the iron content in raw materials by using low-intensity magnetic separator. The implementation results of compressive strength produced by craftsman provide the average value of 3.03 MPa whereas brick fired in the laboratory give the minimum value of 5.09 Mpa which was achieved in 6 hour and 500oC firing. The contribution of this activity indicates the improvement of brick quality mainly compressive strength up to 59 %.

Abstract

When there is a population increase within an area, it will be coincided with housing needs. The demand of residential area sometimes requires land conversion from various previous uses such as rice fields, swamps, and other rain catchment areas. This shift in land functions causes several problems, such as flooding in the rainy season, drought in the dry season, and other environmental problems, including the increasing household waste. This community service is conducted to socialize the planning of infiltration wells in Biringkanaya District. Mainly, this community service aims to increase the community's awareness regarding perodical flood disasters and surface water shortages around the area. Besides that, this community service also aims to socialize the use of infiltration wells as an attempt to manage water around the activity location. Several steps have been taken in order to achieve those goals. Those steps are surveying field conditions, taking out questionnaires, and public disseminating to the community and other stakeholders. The field survey shows that the flood occurs because the discharge of runoff water that falls into the rain catchment area is much greater than the discharge of runoff that comes out. Based on the analysis, planning and designing infiltration wells are imperative to accumulate ground water. After the dissemination, the level of public understanding of surface water conditions and the function of infiltration wells is increasing. The community provides input regarding planning for infiltration wells that can be utilized to manage household waste.

Abstract

Minerals and rocks are knowledge that everyone who wants to work in the mining industry must know. This community service activity aims to improve the understanding and skills of students majoring in Mining Geology at SMK Techno-Terapan Makassar in describing the characteristics of minerals and rocks. The problems faced by partners are the lack of laboratory facilities and the dominance of theoretical learning so practicums are not optimal. This training involved 39 students who were guided by lecturers and students from the Department of Mining Engineering, at Hasanuddin University. The training method includes material presentation, rock description tutorials, and mineral identification using 18 igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rock samples. Assessment is carried out through pre-test and posttest to measure participants' understanding. The results show an increase in the average score from 6.31 to 7.56, with a maximum score of 10, although not significant for some participants. Apart from providing increased understanding, this activity hands over rock samples to partners for further learning. In conclusion, this training is effective in improving students' practical skills related to minerals and rocks, which is an important provision for their future in the mining-geology field.
