Abstract

In the printing industry, ergonomic factors are often overlooked despite their significant impact on worker health and productivity. PT XYZ, as a packaging and carton printing company, is facing musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) complaints in workers in the manual handling section due to non-ergonomic workstation design. This study aims to identify ergonomic risk factors, analyze MSDs complaints, and design ergonomic workstation improvements. The methods used include Nordic Body Map (NBM) for complaint mapping, Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) for work posture analysis, and Workplace Ergonomic Risk Assessment (WERA) for ergonomic risk evaluation. The NBM questionnaire shows that the body parts of the 1st and 2nd shift workers who predominantly experience pain complaints are pain in the back, left hand and right knee. While the REBA method obtained a value of 9 in the most extreme posture which means high risk and needs improvement. While in WERA the final score is 34 which means that the tasks performed by workers need to be investigated and needed for improvement. Therefore, the design of work tables and work chairs is carried out to improve the work posture of PT XYZ workers. This design is tailored to the needs of workers at PT XYZ so as to reduce the risks that are likely to occur.

Abstract

The pan handle is a crucial component that influences the comfort, safety, and user perception of cookware. However, existing market designs often compromise on one of two fundamental aspects: ergonomics or aesthetics. This study aims to (1) evaluate the ergonomic and aesthetic aspects of ten different commercial pan handle designs, (2) analyze the correlation between these two aspects, and (3) apply the findings to design and validate a new, superior concept. An experimental method with a within-subject design involved 30 participants who performed a series of simulated use tasks and provided subjective ratings using a Likert scale. Data were analyzed using the Friedman test with a post-hoc Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test, and Spearman's rank correlation. The results showed highly statistically significant differences in the ergonomic (χ²(9) = 257.300, p < .001) and aesthetic (χ²(9) = 238.920, p < .001) ratings. Furthermore, a very strong and highly significant positive correlation was found between perceived ergonomics and aesthetics (ρ = .900, p < .001). These findings were then successfully applied to develop a physical prototype, which was validated with an ergonomic comfort score of 4.07 and an aesthetic score of 4.33. This research provides important implications for the holistic design of pan handles, emphasizing that the integration of functional and visual considerations is crucial for enhancing the overall user experience.

Abstract

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) play an important role in economic growth, job creation, and driving innovation. However, the competitiveness of SMEs is often hampered by weak protection of intellectual capital assets, particularly in aspects of intellectual property related to SME trademarks. This article examines the urgency of establishing a comprehensive legal framework to protect intellectual capital assets, specifically in aspects of intellectual property related to SME trademarks, as a strategic effort to promote innovation and improve SME performance. The research method used is normative legal research with a legislative, conceptual, and comparative approach to the practice of intellectual property law protection with South Korea and Singapore. The findings demonstrate three central points. First, Indonesian culinary SMEs actively confront major obstacles in implementing legal protection for intellectual capital assets, particularly intellectual property. Complex registration bureaucracy, high administrative costs, weak law enforcement, and low literacy among business owners directly hinder their capacity to innovate and compete. Second, comparisons with South Korea and Singapore illustrate that states can significantly enhance SME competitiveness by integrating efficient intellectual property protection systems with economic incentives and by cultivating a strong legal culture. Third, Indonesia must design and implement a responsive, inclusive, and adaptable model of intellectual capital protection, particularly in the field of intellectual property. Policymakers can achieve this goal by simplifying regulations, strengthening regional institutions, and advancing public education. Through these measures, intellectual property will operate not merely as a legal safeguard but as a strategic asset that stimulates innovation, broadens access to financing, and empowers culinary SMEs to become a driving force in building a globally competitive creative economy.

Abstract

The increasingly intense global competition demands that companies improve product quality in order to remain competitive in the market. At a metal plating and stamping company, a defect rate of 2.29% was identified, which exceeds the established standard by 0.29%. This study aims to identify the types of defects present in the company and their causes, with the goal of providing recommendations to improve production quality—specifically for the stationary contact plate product—using the Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (PFMEA) methods. Production and defect data were collected from January 2024 to March 2025 and implemented in April 2025 using checksheets, Laney P-charts, and Pareto diagrams to identify the types and frequency of defects. The results revealed three main types of defects: dented, bending, and scratch, with scratch being the most frequent. Further analysis using a fishbone diagram helped identify the root causes of the defects and prioritize corrective actions based on the Risk Priority Number (RPN). The proposed improvements include technical recommendations such as adding foam padding to the output container, reducing the distance between the stamping machine and the output container, and implementing a daily checksheet at the beginning of the production process.

Abstract

This study aims to identify employees’ mental workload and evaluate the effectiveness of cognitive ergonomics strategies within the team-based work system at PT. XYZ. Data collection involved the NASA-TLX method for measuring mental workload, the DASS-21 questionnaire to assess psychological conditions, and employee perceptions regarding the implementation of cognitive ergonomic strategies. Additionally, Pearson correlation analysis, Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), and a Pareto diagram were used to support data interpretation. The results showed that most respondents experienced light to moderate mental workload, with generally positive perceptions toward the applied ergonomic strategies. Although statistical correlations among variables were not significant, data patterns and field findings suggest that cognitive ergonomics contribute to stress reduction and increased productivity. In conclusion, implementing appropriate and sustainable cognitive ergonomic strategies is essential to support mental health in a team-based work environment.
