Abstract

Industri pariwisata terus berkembang dan berinovasi. Tour Guide yang menguasai bahasa Inggris lebih mudah beradaptasi dengan tren ini guna meningkatkan kualitas layanan tur mereka secara global. Secara keseluruhan, pelatihan bahasa Inggris bagi tour guide perlu dilakukan untuk memastikan keberlanjutan dan pertumbuhan sektor pariwisata Indonesia di kancah internasional. Investasi dalam pelatihan ini akan memberikan keuntungan jangka panjang bagi para tour guide itu sendiri, yakni melatih ketrampilan berkomunikasi dengan bahasa Inggris dan meningkatkan daya saing.  Pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi berkomunikasi dengan bahasa Inggris dengan mengenalkan berbagai expressions yang digunakan dalam dunia pariwisata, pronunciation (pelafalan), dan structure (tata bahasa), serta Public Speaking.  Pelatihan ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 3-4 Mei 2025 bertempat di Wisma P4G Sriwijaya Semarang dengan peserta sebanyak 20 tour guide dari UPGRI Tour and Travel. Pelatihan ini menerapkan metode lecturing untuk penyampaian materi, diskusi, simulasi dan role play. Evaluasi dilakukan untuk mengatahui umpan balik peserta pelatihan terhadap pelatihan ini. Peserta pelatihan menunjukkan respon positif dan antusiasme dengan terlibat aktif dalam diskusi dan simulasi selama mengikuti pelatihan. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa peserta pelatihan mengalami peningkatan yakni lebih aktif dalam menggunakan bahasa Inggris dalam berkomunikasi dan memiliki kemampuan Public Speaking yang baik pula. Dengan mengikuti pelatihan bahasa Inggris secara berkala, maka kompetensi dalam berkomunikasi dengan bahasa Inggris para tour guide semakin optimal.

Abstract

Bullying merupakan tindakan kekerasan terhadap fisik maupun mental yang dilakukan dengan menyalahgunakan kekuatan dari yang lebih kuat ke yang lemah. Bullying membawa dampak besar terhadap korban yang menyebabkan si korban mengalami trauma, stress, melukai diri sendiri dan tak jarang si korban pada akhirnya bunuh diri karena merasa malu dan dikucilkan oleh lingkungan. Bentuk-bentuk bullying berupa kekerasan fisik maupun verbal, dan cyber bullying yang kerap kali terjadi. Secara tak sadar, sering kita lihat dan dengar physical bullying dan verbal bullying yang dilakukan oleh siswa disekolah dasar. Memukul, menendang, mencakar, menggigit dan aktifitas menyakiti fisik lainnya merupakan bentuk dari perundungan fisik yang dilakukan anak sekolah dasar. Sedangkan untuk verbal bullying, acap kali anak-anak mengolok-olok temannya dengan memanggil nama anak tersebut maupun nama orang tuanya, mencela, berkata kasar merupakan sebagian contoh dari verbal bullying. Sayangnya, kejadian seperti contoh diatas dianggap wajar sebagai kenakalan anak-anak. Berangkat dari fenomena ini, tim pengabdian masyarakat memberikan solusi dengan mengadakan pelatihan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi guru dalam menghadapi dan mengatasi bullying yang terjadi disekolah dengan strategi yang tepat. Solusi dilakukan dengan menggunakan 2 cara, yakni meningkatkan peran guru sebagai komunikator yang baik dengan siswa, sebagai pemberi nasehat, dan pembimbing dalam bersikap dan bertingkah laku bagi siswa. Yang kedua adalah dengan melaksanakan strategi dengan melakukan pembiasaan baik dikelas yang bersifat relijius, membentuk karakter dan kepribadian siswa, dan memberikan art therapy bagi siswa sebagai upaya untuk mengatasi trauma bullying. Dengan pelatihan ini, guru menjadi lebih ‘dewasa’ dan bijak dalam menyikapi bullying, mampu menerapkan solusi dan strategi yang tepat dalam menghadapi bullying dan meminimalisir dampaknya terhadap korban bully

Abstract

Teacher feedback plays an important role in improving student’s writing skill. This study aimed to analysis the feedback technique given by the teacher and the reason for its application. This research was a descriptive study designed to provide a detailed explanation of the implementation of feedback technique given by the teacher at SMA N 15 Semarang. In addition, the data was collected using two instruments; document and interview. There were two finding of the research. Firstly, teacher used the minimal marking technique to provide feedback to students. The feedback provided was intended to help students work on their grammatical errors or writing form using symbol to shorten the correction, such as “P” for punctuation, “Cap” for capitalization, “Spell” for spelling, and etc. Secondly, the teacher employed this technique because it was effective and time-saving. Additionally, it also helps students to understand easily their mistakes. However, as the study used a small sample size, the results require further exploration. Therefore, the minimal marking technique could be applied more broadly in EFL classroom to assess its wider effectiveness.

Abstract

Improving students’ speaking skills is essential in English language learning, yet many students continue to struggle with vocabulary, pronunciation, and confidence in speaking. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of Bamboozle, a game-based digital learning platform, in enhancing the speaking skills of third-grade students at Suranaree Wittaya School, Thailand, during the 2022/2023 academic year. Employing a quantitative pre-experimental design, the study involved 29 students who were assessed using a pre-test and post-test. The speaking performance was measured based on a rubric covering segmental and suprasegmental aspects. The results showed a significant increase in students’ speaking scores, with the mean score rising from 55.93 to 79.76. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test confirmed the statistical significance of the improvement (p = 0.000). Beyond statistical significance, the results highlight the pedagogical value of integrating game-based digital tools into EFL instruction. Bamboozle’s interactive features such as competitive gameplay, visually engaging design, and real-time teacher feedback proved effective in stimulating motivation, encouraging participation, and reinforcing pronunciation practice. These outcomes suggest that Bamboozle can serve not only as a supplementary activity but also as a structured component of communicative language teaching. The study further implies that similar digital platforms hold potential for improving speaking accuracy and fluency in diverse EFL contexts. Accordingly, this research contributes to the growing evidence that game-based learning can bridge the gap between student engagement and measurable learning outcomes in language education.

Abstract

Penelitian ini tentang Penelitian dan Pengembangan yang bertujuan untuk menggunakan Bahasa Inggris sebagai Bahasa Pengajaran untuk meningkatkan kemahiran bahasa Inggris siswa pra-taman kanak-kanak. Subyek penelitian ini adalah dua belas siswa PAUD di TK Maria Regina School dan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan startegi eksperimental. Desain dalam penelitian dilakukan dalam tiga tahap. Pertama, variabel terikatnya adalah pretest yang diberikan oleh peneliti kepada peserta didik pra TK. Kedua, peneliti menggunakan kartu bergambar untuk mengajar bahasa Inggris, sehingga melibatkan perlakuan terhadap subjek. Terakhir, peneliti memberikan posttest kepada subjek. Temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ketika siswa menggunakan kartu bergambar untuk melatih penguasaan bahasa Inggris, kemahiran mereka dalam bahasa tersebut meningkat. Pelajar pra-taman kanak-kanak dianjurkan untuk belajar bahasa Inggris karena hal ini membuat anak-anak dengan mudah mengingat dan memahami pelajaran. Dengan demikian, peneliti dapat menyimpulkan bahwa metode pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang disarankan adalah dengan menggunakan kartu bergambar untuk mengajarkan kosakata kepada pelajar Pra-TK.

Abstract

Success in teaching and learning English is closely tied to the development of positive student character. Strong character traits help students harness their talents and build the resilience and self-confidence needed to face challenges and compete beyond the school environment. This study focused on the tenth-grade students of SMAN 1 Pemalang whose English proficiency was initially below the Minimum Competency Standard of 75. Pre-test results showed that 9 students (28.12%) did not meet the standard. After implementing character-based learning strategies, post-test results indicated significant improvement, with only 2 students (6.25%) falling short of the standard. The average score increased by 10.66 points, from 75.97 to 86.63. The integration of character-building activities fostered positive traits such as helpfulness, cooperation, care, confidence, sportsmanship, mutual respect, and high motivation. Feedback from questionnaires and interviews revealed that students felt more comfortable and happier in class, viewing it as a supportive and inclusive community. They learned in a relaxed environment, developed positive attitudes, and engaged in healthy, respectful competition. Ultimately, the cultivation of good character contributed significantly to their academic success.

Abstract

This paper examines the role of cooperative learning in enhancing language proficiency and social development in EFL classrooms. Effective language acquisition requires students to develop the four language skills, master linguistic elements, and understand cultural contexts essential for communication. However, limited opportunities to practice English outside the classroom hinder students’ progress. Cooperative learning addresses this challenge by promoting meaningful interaction and collaboration. According to Smith (1996), cooperative learning involves small groups where students work together to maximize their learning outcomes. Effective group processing within cooperative learning not only fosters the sharing and refining of strategies but also encourages learners to view language acquisition as a collaborative endeavor. Despite its benefits, many teachers fail to distinguish between merely placing students in groups and fostering genuine cooperation. Kessler (1992) emphasizes that successful cooperative learning requires structured activities that promote accountability, interdependence, and commitment to group goals. This study highlights the importance of carefully managing group dynamics and offers strategies for building effective cooperative groups in EFL contexts. Findings suggest that structured cooperative learning enhances students' language proficiency, engagement, and interpersonal skills, ultimately contributing to more successful learning outcomes.

Abstract

The study examines the difficulties BBC Tlogosari English Course students face when using politeness strategies in daily conversation. Communication is crucial in today's interconnected world, especially for EFL students. The qualitative research study used document analysis and questionnaires to gather information and questions from other students to analyze their experiences. According to the data, students have many challenges that make it hard for them to be polite. Language barriers, especially English, and emotional and cultural issues are among these challenges. The study showed that students used negative politeness strategies to avoid overgeneralization and cultural misunderstandings. These studies emphasize the need for differentiated instructional approaches that address these concerns, adding to current knowledge. This study shows that English politeness education can improve esteem escalation communication and culture. In the long term, this will improve student communication and cultural awareness. This research emphasizes the importance of politeness strategies and EFL contexts and representatives for more research into effective teaching practices that can improve learners. Communicating in English. Thus, by addressing these issues, teachers improve communication skills to the extent that they have cultural competence.

Abstract

Untuk memperoleh pemahaman dan demi tercapainya tujuan dari suatu pembelajaran maka diperlukan pemilihan strategi pembelajaran yang tepat. Begitu pula dengan empelajari Bahasa Inggris, perlu digunakannya strategi pembelajaran yang efektif dan efisien. Para ahli mengemukakan beberapa strategi pembelajaran (Language Learning Strategy) khususnya dalam menguasai kemampuan berbicara, strategi tersebut antara lain : strategi kognitif, strategi afektif dan strategi sosial. Dari ketiga strategi tersebut strategi sosial lebih dominan untuk digunakan dalam mengasah kemampuan berbicara (speaking). Strategi sosial lebih mengutamakan pada kemampuan sosial pembelajar, oleh sebab itu model pembelajaran kooperatif dengan model two stay two stray digunakan pada penelitian ini guna melihat dan mengamati dengan jelas seberapa jauh strategi sosial ini digunakan oleh peserta didik. Terdapat tiga kategori peserta didik yaitu rendah (low level student), sedang (middle level student) dan tingi (high level student) dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris peminatan di kelas XI IPA 6 SMA Negeri 6 Semarang. Metode penelitian yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu kualitatif deskriptif yang berisi tentang penjelasan detil mengenai data yang dipaparkan dan dirancang tidak menggunakan data statistic. Adapaun teknik pengumpulan data yaitu melalui observasi dan juga wawancara.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa LLS tidak menggunakan strategi sosial dalam proses pembelajaran, sedangkan MLS menggunakan strategi sosial namun belum terlalu optimal dan HLS menggunakan strategi sosial dalam proses pembelajaran dengan sangat baik. Kata-kata Kunci:  Strategi sosial, Keterampilan Berbicara (speaking), Two Stay Two Stray

Abstract

English is the most influential language in the world. However, since learning a language is rarely applied in real life, students tend to think that learning this language is unnecessary. In this situation, integrating technology and education education becomes the most crucial part of making the learning process more successful. This article aims to determine the students' responses to using the educational online game Wordwall Unjumbled Word. Qualitative descriptive is used in this research’s design. As the object of the research, the researcher chose 35 students from 11th graders of Social 4 in 10 senior high schools in Semarang. The results of the research are 57,1% agreed that they like the media, 33,6% agreed that the media is enjoyable, 51,4% agreed the media improves their motivation, 57,1% agreed that the media draws their interest, 48,6% agreed that the media made their learning easier, 34,3% stated that the media did not make them stressed, 42,9% agreed that understand the material, 46,7% agreed that the media is easy to be used, 40% agreed that they would use this media in the subsequent learning and 45,7% agreed that the media is appropriate for English learning. The results found in this research should be considered when choosing a suitable media for the English teaching and learning process.
