Abstract

The need for chili peppers (Capsicum annuum L.) in Riau Province increased, along with the increasing population, while production in 2019 of 17,513 tons has not been able to meet the needs, so it was imported from other provinces such as, West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and other provinces. If there is a shortage of supply such as a broken road to Riau, or low production it will have an impact on increasing chili prices in Riau, for that it is necessary to increase chili production in Riau. Farmers in farming chili, often experience crop failure due, one of which is high infection withered fusarium disease caused by the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. capsici. This fungus develops quickly in soil conditions with high humidity, especially during harvest that coincides with the rainy season, where transmission is carried out by spores mainly through the intercession of water flow in roots and leaves (Heriyanto, 2019). The purpose of this community service is to improve the knowledge and skills of farmers in overcoming withers in chili plants. Devotional activities are held in April - October 2021, in the form of lectures and discussions and the creation of pilot pilot pilots. As a result of the service, the community understands the technique of planting and overcoming withers in chili plants.

Abstract

Soursop (Annona muricata L.) is a tropical fruit plant with high economic value; however, its cultivation is limited by seed dormancy, which delays germination. This study aimed to determine the most effective sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄) concentration for breaking seed dormancy and improving seed viability of soursop. The experiment was conducted at the Greenhouse and Plant Breeding Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Riau, and implemented using a completely randomized design with four treatments: 0% (control), 70%, 75%, and 80% H2SO4 concentration. Each treatment was repeated five times. A total of 20 experimental units were obtained, each consisting of 25 seeds, for a total of 500 seeds used in the experiment. The results indicated that sulfuric acid treatment significantly affected most germination parameters. Seeds soaked in a 75% sulfuric acid solution exhibited the fastest germination time (28.40 Day After Planting), the highest germination percentage (88.80 %), and the strongest seed vigor (5.55%). These findings suggest that chemical scarification with 75% H₂SO₄ for 30 minutes can serve as a practical and efficient pre-sowing treatment to improve seedling establishment in soursop propagation.

Abstract

The need for chillies in Riau Province continues to increase along with the increase in population. The price of chillies in Riau is very dependent on supply; if it decreases, it causes the price of chillies to rise; this condition is an opportunity for chilli farmers in Riau to plant or agribusiness chillies. It is hoped that Padang Mutung Village, Kampar Riau Regency, can become a centre for chilli production because of the potential for rice fields, and most of the population's livelihood is farming. One component of chilli production costs is inorganic fertilizer, which tends to be expensive, so production costs increase. Continuous application of inorganic fertilizer can reduce soil fertility. This community service activity aims to increase farmers' understanding of the need for diversification by optimizing the use of paddy fields and fields by planting chillies, increasing farmers' understanding of zero waste-based straw compost-making techniques, which can then be used as a substitute for the use of inorganic fertilizers. The methods used are lectures, discussions and field practice. The activity results showed that after participating in the outreach and practical activities, participants gained knowledge, understood and were able to make rice straw compost and chilli seedlings. Participants will gain knowledge and understand the importance of diversifying the cultivation of chillies apart from rice to optimize the use of paddy fields, yards and idle land. Participants can also learn how to make straw compost and use it to grow fibre chillies, understanding that there is an opportunity to do chilli agribusiness to overcome the chilli shortage. It is hoped that the people of Padang Mutung Village will have increased awareness regarding crop diversification techniques for making straw compost as an alternative to reducing inorganic fertilizers, which will likely increase efficiency in chilli cultivation.

Abstract

A socialization about the dangers of internet use and legal protection for junior high school students at SMPN Satu Atap Padang Mutung was conducted to improve digital literacy and understanding of digital law among participants. This activity used interactive lectures, discussions, and case simulations to explain the benefits and risks of the internet, such as cyberbullying, hoaxes, online fraud, pornography, and personal data protection, accompanied by an explanation of the provisions of the latest ITE Law. This socialization activity aims to provide knowledge and information to teenagers so they can be careful when using the internet. The community service was conducted by socialization to junior high school students at SMPN Satu, Atap Padang Mutung Village. Before the socialization, only a few students were aware of the dangers of the internet and the regulations in force in Indonesia regarding legal violations that utilize the internet as a medium. After socialization, the number of students who knew about the dangers and legal regulations related to the internet increased. With the socialization, it was found that participants showed interest and active involvement in the socialization process, with an increased understanding of internet risks and the legal consequences they might face. The socialization results show that students' knowledge of the dangers of the internet is growing. It is hoped that with knowledge and understanding of the risks of the internet and legal regulations related to violations in cyberspace, students will not commit acts that violate the law and will be able to protect themselves and their environment from the dangers of using the internet that do not comply with the rules.
