Abstract

Soybeans(Glycine max (L.) Merill) is an important food crop that served as an alternative source of protein in Indonesia, due to its very high grain protein content ranging from 40% to 50%. This research is intended to determine genotypic variance components, and heritability of important characters in a soybean population at two planting space. The field experiment was conducted using a randomized block design with 3 replications. Six varieties including Argomulyo, Anjasmoro, Kaba, Burangrang, Gema, Grobogan and three line including KM1, KM-12 and KM25 were grown with two spacing plants, ie, 40cm x 20 cm and 40cm x 15 cm in a plot measuring 3 m in lenght and 2 m in wide. Characters Observed were plant height, flowering date, harvesting date, seed number per plant, grain weight per plant, 100-grain weight, and grain yield  m-2. Generally, the result indicate that all characters vary greatly among genotypes but not significantly different between planting space. Specificaly, genotypes showed high variability in flowering date, harvesting date, grain yield m-2  and 100-grain weight, but not for other traits. The value of genotypic varian components was different from 0 only for flowering date, harvesting date, grain yield m-2 and 100-grain weight. Heritability estimated were diffrent from 0 for flowering date, harvesting date, grain yield m-2 and 100-grain weight, but not for other characters. Keywords : soybean, variability, varians component , heritability

Abstract

Abstract

Winged bean is a plant with a high seed protein content equivalent to soybeans. Indonesia is one of the central origins in southern Asia. However, there are still only a few superior varieties that can be widely cultivated. One effort to increase productivity is by growing improved varieties. This study aimed to identify promising winged bean lines with high and stable yield potential. The experiment was conducted in three environments, i.e., two planting seasons in Bogor and one in Palembang from January 2019 to June 2020. A total of 11 winged bean genotypes were tested and observed for grain yield characters. Parametric analysis methods were used to obtain information on the stability of 11 winged bean genotypes across the three environments. Grain yield was significantly affected by G x E interaction and, therefore, was subjected to stability analyses. Genotypes H1(P), L2, and H4(P) were classified as stable. This genotype had similar characteristics with stable grain yield in three test environments. Keywords: G x E interaction; seed yield; parametric stability, underutilized legume

Abstract

National chili demand continues to increase, but productivity at the farmer level remains low due to attacks by the whitefly (Bemisia tabaci Genn.) virus. Benai Kecil Village, Benai District, Kuantan Singingi Regency, Riau, is a horticultural center with low chili productivity (4–5 tons/ha), far below the potential of commonly used superior varieties. This community service activity aims to improve farmers' knowledge and skills in chili cultivation by initiating the use of the superior virus-resistant Neno variety. The program was implemented for five months with stages of socialization, field practice, mentoring, monitoring, evaluation, and follow-up. The results of the activity indicated that farmers improved their understanding and skills in chili cultivation techniques, including seeding, soil cultivation, maintenance, and pest and disease control. The evaluation showed that the Neno chili variety has the potential to be developed because it is adaptive to dynamic climate change and effectively reduces the risk of curly virus attacks. In addition, the use of virus-resistant varieties can also support environmentally friendly pest and disease control. This program demonstrates that the development of the superior Neno variety has the potential to be a sustainable strategy for increasing chili production while simultaneously strengthening food security and farmer welfare.
