Abstract

The sperm is very fragile to lipid peroxide reaction, that it can easily broken during the process of freezing. To eliminate this consequences an antioxidant agent added into the extender. A research was done to observe the effect of antioxidant agent α-tocoferrol and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) presence in the extender on the quality of frozen semen. Once week, semen from six male Garut sheep ages about 2.5 years old was collected using artificial vagina and egg yolk skim-milk diluent used as the extender. The semen were treated in egg yolk skim-milk diluent without antioxidant as control, in egg yolk skim-milk diluent with α- tocoferrol 0,2 g/100 ml diluent and in egg yolk skim-milk diluent with butylated hydroxytoluene 0,2 g/100 ml diluent. The after thawing observation shown that in egg yolk skim-milk diluent with α- tocoferrol had life percentage (75.0 ± 3.5% vs 64.8 ± 7.8%) and membrane intact percentage (65.8 ± 6.8 % vs 55.2 ± 8.3%) significantly higher than control (P<0,05) but insignificantly different from with BHT addition. The presence of α-tocoferrol in the diluent, the motility percentage consideraly higher (P<0.05) than (45.8 ± 3.8%) using BHT addition (40.0 ± 4.5%) but not different from control (41.7 ± 4.1%); while acrosomal intake percentage after α-tocoferrol (54.8% ± 3.3%) expressively higher (p,0.05) than BHT addition (49.7 ± 3.6%) or control (49.8 ± 3.5%). In conclusion the presence of α-tocoferrol in the diluent could improve the quality of Garut sheep frozen semen.   Key words: Antioxidant, sperm, Garut sheep

Abstract

This study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of organic acid salt Zn from complete feed silage based on corn by product as an alternative to subtitute antibiotic function as a growth promotor for broiler. Ninety day old commercial Cobb broiler chickens were randomly distributed into six groups having three replicates of five birds in each group. Negative control (R0) birds were offered standard basal diet and no challenged, positive control (R1) birds were offered standard basal diet and challenged with 107 Salmonella typhimurium. Treatment R2, R3, R4 and R5 were challenged by 107 CFU of Salmonella typhimurium which added in feed with 0.1% flouroquinolone, 0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.3% of organic acid salts. The result showed that dietary of organic acid salts affect consumption, weight gain, and final body weight (P<0.05). Meanwhile, feed conversion (FCR) was not affected by antibiotics nor  organic acids. Our conclusion, Dietary organic acid salt from complete feed silage corn based by product until dose 0.2% can improve the performance of broiler chickens infected Salmonella typhimurium. Abstract

The studied  area is located in south Kalimantan waters. Regionaly and physiographically it is an interesting location because this location is the transition area between the west and east Indonesian regions in which their geologic setting are very different. The transition area is reflected by the difference in the sea floor morphology. The bathymetry contour pattern at the western area that is part of the Sunda Shelf is reflected by a straight contour and distanlyspaced among them. Its slope is not more than 1” which is then calledas a Plain morphology unit. While the eastern area has a locally close pattern and its slope Is quitegentle. This feature is called as a Reef hilly morphology unit. Keywords: sea floor morphology unit, subsurface structure, Kalimantan

Abstract

The aim of this research was to observe the quality of spotted buffalo epididymal sperm after storage at 4 °C as liquid semen for 12 and 24 hours in andromed containing sucrose 0.2% and 0.4%. Sperm was collected from epididymal tissues by combination of slicing and pressing methods. The parameters observed were the percentage of progressive motility and live sperm. The results showed that the percentage of progressive motility of the liquid semen after storage for 12 hours in andromed (A), andromed + sucrose 0.2% (P1) and andromed + sucrose 0.4% (P2) were 48.33%; 53.33% and 55% (P>0.05), respectively. In addition, the percentage of motility after 24 hours of storage in those extenders were 45%; 46.67% and 46.67% (P>0.05), respectively. The percentage of live sperm in A, P1 and P2 after 12 hours of storage were 70.33%; 73% and 73.33% while after 24 hours of storage, the percentage of live sperm in those extenders were 66.33%; 68.67% and 69.67%, respectively. In conclusion, the addition of 0.2% and 0.4% sucrose in andromed extender could maintain the quality of the spotted buffalo epididymal sperm after storage for 12 and 24 hours at 4 °C.
