Abstract

Traditional prognostic tools for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) often overestimate progression and recurrence risks, underscoring the need for more precise biomarkers. While long non-coding ribonucleic acids (lncRNAs) have been reviewed in bladder cancer, no review has focused on NMIBC. The aim of this study was to address this gap by investigating the role of lncRNAs in predicting NMIBC survival and progression. A systematic review was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane databases as of July 31, 2024. Prognostic studies investigating the association between lncRNA expression and survival outcomes, such as cancer-specific survival, disease-free survival, recurrence-free survival, or overall survival, using Kaplan-Meier curves or hazard ratios, were included. A total of three studies were analyzed, involving 279 NMIBC patients and focusing on three lncRNAs: urothelial cancer associated 1 (UCA1), growth arrest-specific 5 (GAS5), and up-regulated in non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (UNMIBC). Increased UCA1 expression was strongly associated with poor disease-free survival (hazard ratio (HR): 1.974; 95%CI: 1.061–3.673; p=0.032) and progression-free survival (HR: 3.476; 95%CI: 1.187–10.18; p=0.023). Reduced GAS5 expression was significantly associated with poor disease-free survival (HR: 2.659; 95%CI: 1.348–5.576; p=0.005) and progression-free survival (HR: 6.628; 95%CI: 1.494–29.40; p=0.013). Higher level of UNMIBC was strongly associated with poor recurrence-free survival (HR: 2.362; 95%CI: 1.504–4.837; p=0.007). In conclusion, lncRNAs have potential as prognostic biomarkers in NMIBC, with UCA1 and UNMIBC overexpression and GAS5 underexpression being significant in predicting disease recurrence and progression, highlighting the clinical relevance of monitoring these lncRNAs to improve prognosis and guide treatment decisions.

Abstract

The research objectives were (1) to determine the increase in problem-solving abilities using the problem-based instruction model for class XI-MIPA-7 students on mechanical wave material at SMA Negeri 3 Banda Aceh, (2) to describe the activities of teachers and students in learning mechanical wave material using the problem-based instruction model for class XI-MIPA-7 SMA Negeri 3 Banda Aceh, and (3) to find out the response of XI-MIPA-7 students of SMA Negeri 3 Banda Aceh after using the problem-based instruction model. This study used a classroom action research method. The research subjects were 34 students of XI-MIPA-7 SMA Negeri 3 Banda Aceh. Data analysis using percentage techniques. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded as follows: (a) there is an increase in student learning outcomes in solving problems by applying the problem-based instruction model. The class average score in cycle 1 meeting 1 was 71.47 with 58.2% completeness, while in cycle 1 meeting 2 increased to 82.5 with completeness 82.35%. And in cycle II the class average value is 85 with completeness of 94.11%; (b) teacher and student activities have increased in each cycle, an increase in the ability of teachers to manage to learn from moderate to very good categories, and (c) student responses tend to be positive. So, it can be said that the problem-based instruction model can be used to improve the ability to solve mechanical wave material problems in class XI-MIPA-7 at SMA Negeri 3 Banda Aceh.

Abstract

Background: Friendship is a safe relationship in which individuals can express various facets of themselves. A true friend allows another to be fully themselves in their presence, resulting in personal growth and progress -- not only for individuals, but also for institutions, society, and the nation. A friendship that began as a student-teacher relationship and has lasted a decade (2015-2025) was lived, observed, and reflected upon. Aims: This photo essay aims to explore how an intially asymmetric relationship between student and teacher gradually grew into an academic friendship. It is intended to inspire readers to nurture safe and trusting connections within their own circles. Methods: This case study investigates a student-teacher friendship relationship, highlighting learning points worth sharing publicly. The relationship consciously incorporated emotional communication -- emotional intelligent interaction that engages feeling-based expression and empathetic simulation. Results: A bond that began between two strangers on Facebook evolved into an academic friendship, then into a student-examiner relationship during doctoral study. After the doctoral journey ended, the connection reverted to a stronger friendship. This relationship yielded collaborative works and programs that have benefited both Indonesian and global communities. Conclusion: This case study offers several takeaways on building meaningful friendship that foster personal growth and benefit the wider environment.

Abstract

The story begins at the Galilee Foundation Drug Rehabilitation Center in Palangka Raya City in July 2018. We are a team that provides professional assistance to drug survivors at the Panti (in Indonesia, rehabilitation homes for drugs users are termed Panti). One of the four-drug survivors enrolled in our study was Jeremy, 19 years old. We were helping Jeremy to reconnect with his family. This activity was a part of the social reintegration activity of the drug rehabilitation program.

Abstract

Family caregivers for elderly play a very important role in implementing drug adherence, especially in Asian countries. Various determinants of medication adherence included caregivers as family support. Although the relationship between family support is not always significant, understanding the factors of family caregivers on medication adherence is important, especially when improving adherence in Asian countries. The following scoping review was conducted to provide an overview of caregivers, and its relationship to medication adherence in Asian settings. PRISMA-ScR guideline and checklist was used for the search process and to guide reporting. Review selection and characterization were performed by reviewers independently. In total, 22 papers were included in the review, published from 2011 to 2021. The studies varied in terms of purpose, methodology, and detail of reporting. Family caregiver is an important determinant of medication adherence, especially for areas where extended family culture is still strong, such as in Asia. Understanding the local culture, aspects of family burden and economic, as well as the role of the health profession, especially pharmacists in health services are needed to improve adherence. Therefore, further research with quality methods is needed.
