Abstract

This research aims at describing the implementation of teaching Speaking by a tutor for young adult students in one location, which focuses on instructional materials, learning activities, and learning steps in class. This case study was conducted using a qualitative approach. The subjects of this research were a tutor and two participants at the Ngampel spot, Mojoroto Kediri. The researchers carried out observations, interviews and documentation to collect data. The findings show that the implementation of learning speaking skills in young adult groups at English Massive is interesting in terms of the material and teaching techniques. When teaching, the tutor always chooses activities that train speaking skills and completed with interesting learning media.

Abstract

Listening is the first skill and basic ability in learning a new language that beginners have to learn. In this era, technology is getting better and students’ can easy to learning English. Researcher use the most popular music platform that can be applied in teaching listening, named Spotify. The researcher used quantitative research, and the research was conducted at MAN 1 Kota Kediri. The sample was X IPS 1 class that consists of 36 students. The students were given pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The treatment was conducted once in order to know whether is an significant effect of using on viral playlist at Spotify in teaching listening skill. The data result got from students’ score of pre-test and post-test that analyzed using t-test formula. The researcher uses SPSS version 20.0. The data result shows that t-score is higher than t-table in the level significant of 5%. The mean score of pre-test is 72,86 with the total score 2.687 and mean score of post-test is 83,92 with the total score 3.109. The result of the research shows that there is any significant effect of using the treatment, it is proven by the different score between pre-test and post-test.

Abstract

This research aim to determine differences of writing anxiety and the cause factors behind the anxiety suffered by male and female students. The study is a quantitative study and adapted two types of questionnaires to collect the required data, (Second Language Writing Anxiety Inventory) by Cheng (2004) and CSLWAI (Cause of Second Language Writing Anxiety Inventory) by Rezaei and Jafari (2014). The subject of this study are 30 male students and 33 female students. The result showed that male students suffered cognitive anxiety, avoidance behavior anxiety and somatic anxiety. Meanwhile, female students suffered somatic anxiety and cognitive anxiety. Male students factors of writing anxiety are linguistic difficulties followed with writing techniques while female students only had writing techniques ad factors affecting their writing anxiety. In conclusion, male students had worse writing anxiety than female students. Therefore, develop teaching and learning method with the awareness of male and female students’ writing anxiety is highly recommended in order for students to be able to learn English language effectively.

Abstract

Salah satu keterampilan yang harus dimiliki oleh lulusan sekolah di Indonesia adalah keterampilan berkomunikasi menggunakan Bahasa Inggris agar mampu bersaing di abad 21. Oleh karena itu, pemerintah Indonesia memperbolehkan Bahasa Inggris diajarkan mulai dari Sekolah Dasar (SD)/Madrasah Ibtida’iyah (MI). Pengelola MI Al Ikhlash Blabak, Kabupaten Kediri ingin memberikan pelajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk siswa-siswanya. Akan tetapi, semua guru tidak memiliki latar belakang Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris. Untuk itu pihak madrasah bekerja sama dengan tim Program Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PKM) UNP Kediri melaksanakan pelatihan bagi para guru di madrasah tersebut tentang pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang menyenangkan bagi siswa. Kegiatan pelatihan dilakukan secara tatap muka (in) untuk materi kurikulum merdeka, konsep pembelajaran ramah anak, pengembangan materi, berbagai metode mengajar yang menyenangkan, dan menyusun Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran (RPP/modul ajar). Sedangkan praktik pengembangan RPP/modul ajar dilakukan dengan penugasan (on). Setelah mengikuti pelatihan menunjukkan ada peningkatan pada kompetensi guru sebesar 38%, yaitu mereka mampu mengembangkan materi dan memilih kegiatan pembelajaran yang ditulis dalam persiapan sederhana, serta mampu mempraktikkannya di kelas.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the effect of differentiated teaching content viewed from students’ learning style for students’ writing skill in the senior high school. Quantitative approach using experimental research with one-group-pre-test-post-test design was used. The data were collected using questionnaire to know students’ learning style and writing test to know students’ writing ability. The data analyzed using SPSS. The result of data analysis showed that there are visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles and the most common learning style is visual learners. Students' writing skills after being taught using differentiated content improved, it is showed from the results of the pre-test and post-test, pre-test was 59 and post-test was 85,6. The results of the T-Test analysis show that the calculated t-test is higher than the t-table value (42,461 > 2,039) with a significant of 0.000, which means there is significant effect in students' writing abilities after using differentiated teaching content. It can be concluded that teaching methods that adjust learning styles have an effect on students' writing skills, so teacher are suggested to pay attention to students’ learning style when teaching writing.​

Abstract

Speaking ability is an interactive process of building meaning that involves the production and reception and processing of information. Meanwhile, speaking ability is expressing feelings,ideas, opinions, to other people by using the articulation of words or sounds to provide information. Mastering speaking skills is a top priority that students must have, but there are still many students who face difficulties speaking English, start from difficulties expressing vocabulary, accuracy, fluency, coherence, spelling pronouns in English. The purpose of the research is: 1).To know students' speaking ability to Speak English before being taught by using Storytelling of Tenth Grade at SMK PGRI 2 Kediri. 2.) To know students' speaking ability to Speak English After being taught by using Storytelling to increase speaking ability to the students SMK PGRI 2 Kediri. 3.) To find out whether there is any impact or not using Storytelling to Increase English Speaking Ability at SMK PGRI 2 Kediri. This research was carried out in October-November 2023. The population of this research was class 10 student at SMK PGRI 2 Kediri, and each class was 28 students. This research was carried out in eight meetings which include Pre-test, Treatment and Post-test. Researcher use (speaking orally) as a instrument to collect the data. The researcher was carried out from September 2023 until December 2023. After collecting the datamteh next step was to analyzed the data using SPSS vs 24.0,specifically using the t-test sample to determine the significant influence of habituation storytelling on students speaking abilites. The research result showed that students speaking skills improved after being taught using  storytelling method. This is proven by the average scores in 2 classes  (control class and experiment class). The result shows that the control class that are not given the treatment get the score pre-test 43.2 and posttest 53.0  score got higher than t-table (2.767>2.473) and in experiment class are given the treatment get the score pretest 40.3 and posttest 75.7. The result report that the t-test was higher that t-table (11.420>2.473).It means Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. The researcher suggest to the English teacher that will better teach the students using habituation storytelling because it was suitable technique which makes the student easier to understand speak clearly.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the impact of role-playing techniques with talk shows viewed from student personality (introvert-extrovert) for the senior high school students. One group pre-test and post-test design was used in this study by using speaking performance test to collect the data. The collected data then analyzed using t-test computation. The results of the data analysis showed that there are more introverted students than extroverted students. After the implementation of role play with talk show the students' speaking skills increased, with the scores of the introverted students were higher than those of the extrovert students. The t-test computation showed that there is significant effect of using role play with talk show to the students’ speaking ability viewed from their personality. It can be concluded that role play with talk show is suitable to teach speaking and it is suggested that the teacher should apply this technique and pay attention on identifying the students’ personality before teaching.

Abstract

Mastering English vocabulary has its own challenges, especially in Indonesia where English is a foreign language. To help students master vocabulary, educators need to design interesting learning media. The researcher have used the "TikTok" application as an innovative medium to create a fun learning atmosphere. The research aims to determine students' vocabulary mastery before and after using the application and how significant its influence is on students at SMAN 6 Kota Kediri. The researcher used quantitative research with one group pre-test and post-test. The data results show that the t-score is higher than the t-table at the 5% significance level. The average pre-test score was 68.38, and the average post-test score was 81.67. The t-test calculation shows that there is -8.540 with a degree of freedom of 30 and significance smaller than 0.05. It can be concluded that t-test is higher than t-table Ha is accepted. So, the research results show that there is a significant influence on treatment, because the post-test score is higher than the pre-test score. These results show that the use of song lyrics in the "TikTok" application can help students solve learning problems, especially in mastering students' vocabulary.

Abstract

School graduates required two essential skills in twenty first century, namely creativity and critical thinking skills. There are many strategies that can be used to develop these skills at schools. One of them is through English competitions. The aims of this research are 1) to describe kinds of English competitions in Bulan Bahasa dan Sastra event that can develop creativity and critical thinking skills; and 2) to explain the process of acquiring creativity and critical thinking skills experienced by students. This qualitative research was carried out at SMAN 2 Kediri. The subjects of this research were six students who took parts in the English competitions, and the teachers who were in charge of as judges in the English competition. The techniques of data collection were observation, interview, and document analysis. The results of research showed that there were two English competitions, namely Speech Contest and English Debate in Bulan Bahasa event. In each of competitions, the students followed the stages: preparation and presentation. Through these stages, the students had experience to develop creativity and critical thinking skills. The researcher concludes that students’ creativity and critical thinking skills can be developed when they are involved in an English competition.

Abstract

One of dimension in Pancasila Student Profile is students have ability to think critically. Teachers can apply many strategies to train their students in order that their critical thinking develop. One of them is by utilizing literary text in teaching. This research aims to describe the skills of elementary school teachers in utilizing literary text to train critical thinking to the students. This research applies a descriptive qualitative approach in which the subjects of this research were 1 school principal, 2 teachers of grades 5 and 6, and 40 students of SDN 1 Loceret, Nganjuk. The researcher used guided interview, questionnaires, and document analysis to collect the data. The finding of the research can be described that the teachers have already used local literary text, such as poems and short stories to train critical thinking skills. They used those texts for teaching materials. However, they still had problems to develop activities that train the students to think critically. They only utilize those texts in curricular activity or during the teaching-learning in the classroom. It is recommended that teachers should utilize the local-culture based stories in co-curricular and extra-curricular.
