Abstract

This study examines the strategy of community social resilience in the Petamburan Village. The diversity of community backgrounds in the Petamburan Village makes the social dynamics of the Petamburan Village in the spotlight, one of which is the conflict that occurs between communities which hinders the achievement of community social resilience. This research is qualitative research with a descriptive methods. Methods of data collection using interviews conducted on three informants, observation, and documentation. This research uses the concept of social resilience according to Webersik and Collins conflict theory. Webersik explained that community social resilience can be realized with two approaches, namely the role of the government and the role of the community itself. Meanwhile, Collins' conflict theory explains that conflicts that occur in society are caused by differences in interests. The results of the study found that the causes of conflict in Petamburan Village were caused by mutual ridicule and differences of opinion between residents. The Petamburan Sub-District Government took repressive steps by issuing statements for residents who were in conflict and were fostered by the RT and RW and if it was found that these residents were having conflicts again, they would be handed over to law enforcement officials. Meanwhile, the community chose to activate youth groups at the RW and Kelurahan levels to take an inter-citizen approach with activity programs that emphasize togetherness among the community and are beneficial to the surrounding environment to reduce conflict. This is in line with the concept of community social security, namely the role of the government and the community in reducing the conflict to achieve community social resilience in Petamburan Village. In addition, the research results are also in line with the conflict theory according to Collins that conflicts that occur in the Petamburan sub-district are often based on differences of opinion or interests.

Abstract

Recently, some cases of human rights violations in immigration detention centers across Japan have attracted worldwide attention. Those inhumanely considered cases necessitated the United Nations expressing an opinion through the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention. This study found that ingrained ideologies of homogeneity in Japanese society give rise to immigration policies that tend to hinder the integration of immigrants into Japanese society. This research looks at three main areas: first, how the ideology of homogeneity led to prolonged immigration detention in Japan; second, whether immigration detention in Japan violates international human rights law; and, finally, the guarantee of human rights protection for detainees in Japan. a qualitative research method using a literature review to describe how ethnic homogeneity causes prolonged immigration detention in Japan that is against international law through an institutional frame.

Abstract

Developed countries as the axis of world industrialization attract developing countries with young demographic conditions to participate in the global labor market. According to the ILO's World Employment and Social Outlook-Trends 2019, the participation of the youth workforce has decreased. Besides being faced with an aging population, Japan also has a shortage of workers in the middle and low-skilled sectors. Meanwhile, Indonesia has the potential to experience a demographic bonus. The TITP / Kenshusei scheme is a realization of the labor demand and supply relationship. Rational Choice Theory by Coleman focuses on the rational actions of individuals in making decisions to achieve goals, with the calculation of benefits. According to Sonja Haug, indicators of capital and cultural capital influence the decision-making of migrant workers to migrate. In Futaba, workers from developing countries in Japan describe a relationship of mutual need. The state rationally forms a labor mobility policy in the era of the global labor market. Futaba then found that most participants drive-by economic needs and limited employment opportunities in their home countries. Based on the three indicators, career orientation and financial adequacy are the main factors besides the popularity of Japanese culture. Institutionally, the role of the family is the motivation for migration to meet financial needs at the beginning of a career. There is a process of adopting a lifestyle to the way of interaction and cultural habits of Japanese society. Herewith Japanese popular culture such as; the film, anime, manga, and game industries have contributed to the motivation of migrant workers to Japan.

Abstract

The world today is highly interconnected. To address the manpower shortage in Japan and the surplus in Indonesia 30 years ago, both countries developed an internship program, "Ginou Jisshu." During the internship, participants with Indonesian culture-based individual characteristics are exposed to Japanese work culture. This study aimed to investigate how interns' individual characteristics and their assimilation of Japanese work culture improve their competency and competitiveness, considering self-efficacy as a moderating factor. Using a quantitative research method, data from 400 internship alumni across 38 provinces in Indonesia were collected through Google Form questionnaires and analyzed using PLS-SEM. Out of 10 proposed hypotheses, all direct effect hypotheses were accepted, and 3 of the moderation hypotheses were accepted, while 2 were rejected. This study introduces a novel paradigm where any positive effect, regardless of statistical significance, is considered beneficial. It suggests that resolving issues, even minor ones, can amplify positive effects and mitigate negative effects. The findings reveal that individual characteristics and Japanese work culture positively affect competency and competitiveness, and competency further enhances competitiveness. Self-efficacy strengthens the impact of individual characteristics and Japanese work culture on competency, as well as the impact of Japanese work culture and competency on individual competitiveness. However, it weakens the effect of individual characteristics and competency on individual competitiveness.

Abstract

This paper examines how the COVID-19 pandemic has implications for the formation of Japanese teachers' skills related to digitalisation, as well as how the teaching and learning situation in Japan has changed as a result. The COVID-19 pandemic has indirectly forced teachers in Japan to adapt and change their teaching methods to students. Discussions on teacher certification and training in Japan, digitization of education in Japan, and the formation of teacher skills in Japan before and after the COVID-19 pandemic are used to explain how digitization was already introduced in education in Japan but was only massively implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results of this study found that current teacher skills in Japan have undergone some changes in standards. The introduction of digitalization in education in Japan as well as the COVID-19 pandemic that entered Japan in 2020 indirectly changed the teaching standards of teachers in Japan. Nowadays, teachers in Japan are not only required to be proficient in teaching but also to act as practitioners in their teaching environment, thus indirectly changing the teaching and learning process in Japan.
