Abstract

Year to year, the suicide rate among academics in Nusa Tenggara Barat Province has risen because of various factors. Suicidal behavior results from suicidal ideation, which is triggered by negative emotions that cause psychological stress, such as depression. On the other hand, numerous previous studies found a contribution of happiness and depression to suicidal ideation. Hence, this study examined the significance of the role of happiness in moderating the effect of depression on suicidal ideation. Further, this was a survey study on academics in Nusa Tenggara Barat Province (n = 182). Moderator analysis was applied in this study using the PROCESS Macro version 3.0 installed in the IBM SPSS 23.00. The study’s findings have shown that happiness significantly moderates the effect of depression on suicidal ideation. The happier the person is, the lesser the depression impacts suicidal ideation. Moreover, these findings suggest that clinical psychologists working with academic clients should pay attention to increasing happiness as a resource for psychological interventions to reduce the severity of depression’s effect on suicidal ideation.

Abstract

This article discusses the relationship between the naming of UIN Palembang and the name Raden Fatah from a historical perspective. This study aims to reveal the historical facts behind the naming relationship of UIN Palembang which uses the name Raden Fatah which is synonymous with the Sultanate of Demak. The method used is descriptive qualitative which refers to historical research analysis techniques. The historical research process goes through four stages, namely heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The research results reveal two historical facts behind the naming. First, the influence of Raden Fatah's Islamization in Palembang has not only crystallized in the collective memory of the community, but is also neatly preserved in historical traces that can still be seen today. This historical fact confirms the influence of Raden Fatah's Islamization on Palembang, South Sumatra. Second, the naming of UIN Palembang with the name Raden Fatah is historically tied to the relationship between the figures of Raden Fatah and Palembang. The knot of Raden Fatah's character can be identified through four relations: namely location (place) relations, mission relations, contribution relations, and historical trace relations. These four relationships are the argumentative historical facts behind naming UIN Palembang with the name UIN Raden Fatah.

Abstract

Academic entitlement is a belief that has become one of the issues in higher education. The purpose of this study is to determine the academic entitlement of undergraduate students according to their gender and involvement in organizations. The study involved 159 undergraduate students from the Faculty of Psychology at UIN Raden Fatah Palembang, who answered the online survey. The quantitative method will be applied. The instrument used academic entitlement scale by Chowning and Campbell's (2009) consist of 15 items from two factors, 10 items that evaluate externalized responsibilities, and 5 items that evaluate entitled expectations. The difference in academic entitlement by gender and organization participation is examined using a descriptive statistic and t-test. The results reveal that while there is a significant difference in academic entitlement (AE) based on organization participation, there is no significant difference in AE based on gender. Academic entitlement could occur in the university and it could lead to misconduct behavior, therefore future research should explore about the factor and impact from academic entitlement to address the potential development of academic entitlement in undergraduate student

Abstract

Achievement Goals Theory (AGT) is focused on individuals’ motivation and goal-pursuit behavior to achieve attainable targets. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the validity and reliability of the AGT scale among Indonesian college students. Participants in this study included 220 students sampled using non-probability sampling. The Elliot’s Achievement Goals Questionnaire-Revised (AGQ-R) was used to measure participants’ beliefs about mastery-goal, mastery-avoidance, performance-goal, and performance-avoidance goals with three items on each subscale. Concurrent validity, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Rasch measurement model were carried out. Subsequently, Cronbach's Alpha, composite reliability were used to test reliability. The result showed that the three-factor model was the most appropriate representation as goodness of fit indexes ?2 (166) = 202.498, p = .0000, RMSEA = 0.045, 90% CI = 0.051? 4.493, probability RMSEA = 2.227, CFI =1.000, TLI = 1.000, SRMR = 0.056. AGQ-R was shown to be a valid and reliable instrument to be used on students in Indonesia. The three-factor model was the most appropriate representation, as well as a valid and reliable instrument to measure achievement goals in the sample of students in Indonesia. This model consisted of mastery and performance goals, while mastery-avoidance and performance-avoidance were combined into one domain. This validated psychometric instrument use to assess student motivation and design culturally-aligned interventions in the higher education and allow a development for teaching strategies that support student engagement and academic success.
