Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of feeding durian seed flour as corn substitution on heterophyl/lymphocyte (H/L) ratio and hen day production (HDP). Experimental animals were 120 birds of laying hens allocated into for 4 treatments with 5 repications. Treatments applied were T0= without durian seed flour (control); T1= 3% durian seed flour to substitute corn; T2= 6% durian seed flour to substitute corn; and T3: 9% of durian seed flour to substitute corn. The parameters observed were serum glutamate oksaloasetate transaminase (SGOT), H / L ratio and hen day production (HDP). Data were analyzed using analysis of varian sand continued to Duncan's multiple range test if the treatments showed the significant effect. The results showed that the treatment with durian seed flour at the level of 9% (T3) was significant (P <0.05) on SGOT, H/L ratio,  and HDP. In conclusion, durian seed flour at the level of 9% resultsincreases  SGOT, H / L ratio,and a decreases HDP.

Abstract

The study aims to determine, assess and evaluate the content of cholesterol, high density lipoprotein (HDL) and Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) blood quail which were treated with liquid additive red dragon fruit. Materials used in the study were 200 female quails aged 14 days with an average weight of 13.61 ± 0.49 g. Ration composed by metabolizable energy content of ± 3000 kcal/kg and ± 20% of crude protein. The study consisted of 4 treatments and 5 replications. The treatments were (T0: without addition of liquid red dragon fruit (control); T1: addition of 5 ml liquid red dragon fruit twice a day; T2: addition of 5 ml liquid red dragon fruit once a day and T3: addition of 5 ml liquid red dragon fruit once in every two days). Blood sampling was performed in EDTA tube at the end of the study. Analysis of samples was carried out in health laboratory Semarang. The results were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA). The study showed that the addition of liquid red dragon fruit additive had no significant effect (P> 0.05) on cholesterol, HDL and LDL of quil’s blood. Keywords: Quail, cholesterol; HDL, LDL, and red dragon fruit

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the liver health in broiler chickens which were fed with additional organic calcium sources combined with alkaline water. The material used was 240 broilers with an average body weight of 195.25 ± 6.85 g. The study used a completely randomized design with a 2x3 factorial pattern, the first factor was 3 levels of alkaline water, namely 0% (A1), 10 mL (A2) and 20 mL. (A3), and the second factor is 2 levels of organic calcium sources, namely eggshell flour (B1) and shellfish (B2). Each treatment was repeated 4 times, each filled with 7 heads. Parameters measured were serum glutamate okasaloacetate transminase (SGOT), serum glutamate pyruvate transminase (SGPT) and relative liver weight. The results showed that the combination of alkaline water and organic calcium sources showed an interaction with SGOT, while the relative weight of the liver and SGPT had no interaction. The conclusion is that the combination of alkaline water levels up to 20 mL and organic calcium sources (eggshell and shellfish flour) is not harmful to broiler liver.Keywords: alkaline water, broiler chickens, liver indicators and sources of calcium

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengkaji pengaruh penambahan ekstrak buah Noni (Morinda citrifolia) dalam ransum terhadap profil lemak pada ayam broiler. Sejumlah 200 ekor ayam broiler dengan bobot badan 245,67 ± 10,27 g, eksktrak buah Noni (EBN), ethanol absolute, kertas saring, spuit, vacum tainer, alkohol dan alat tulis digunakan pada penelitian ini. Rancangan penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap dengan 5 perlakuan dan 4 ulangan (masing-masing diisi 10 ekor). Perlakuan yang diterapkan meliputi Kontrol (+) = Ransum control/RK, Kontrol (-) = RK+Bacitracin 0,04%, T1= RK+EBN 0,04%, T2= RK+EBN 0,08%, dan T3= RK+EBN 0,12%. Parameter yang diukur meliputi kolesterol, trigliserida, high density lipoprotein dan low density lipoprotein darah. Data dilakukan uji Anova dan beda nyata Duncan pada taraf 5%. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian bahwa penambahan EBN berpengaruh (p<0,05) terhadap kolesterol darah, trigliserida, high density lipoprotein dan low density lipoprotein. Penambahan EBN pada level 0,12% (T3) mampu menurunkan kadar kolesterol, trigliserida dan low density lipoprotein darah serta meningkatkan high density lipoprotein darah dibandingkan perlakuan lainnya. Simpulan adalah profil lemak darah yang ditambahkan EBN sampai level 0,12% (T3) mampu menjaga kesehatan tubuh.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan ekstrak buah noni dan Lactocillus acidophilus terhadap profil lemak darah ayam pedaging. Materi penelitian adalah day old chick (DOC) ayam pedaging sebanyak 189 ekor dengan bobot badan rata-rata 40,98 ± 1,27 g, ekstrak buah noni dan Lactobacillus acidophilus sebagai perlakuan. Perlakuan diberikan pada ayam dari umur 14 sampai 35 hari. Pakan dan air minum disediakan secara ad libitum. Penelitian disusun dalam rancangan acak lengkap pola faktorial dengan 2 faktor yaitu faktor level ekstrak buah Noni (0,04%/A1, 0,08%/A2 dan 0,12%/A3) dan faktor level Lactobacillus acidophilus (0%/B1, 0,6%/B2 dan 1,2%/B3), sehingga terdapat 9 kombinasi perlakuan dengan 3 ulangan. Parameter yang diamati meliputi kolesterol, trigliserida, low density lipoprotein (LDL) dan high density lipoprotein (HDL). Data diolah dengan analis ragam pada taraf 5% dan apabila berpengaruh nyata dilanjutkan dengan uji jarak ganda Duncan dengan taraf 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan ekstrak buah noni dan Lactobacillus acidophilus berpengaruh nyata (P<0,05) terhadap total kolesterol, trigliserida, LDL dan HDL pada darah ayam pedaging. Uji beda Duncan menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi ekstrak buah Noni 0,12% dan Lactobacillus acidophilus 1,2% (A3B3) memberikan hasil rataan terendah kolesterol (140,74 mg/dl), trigliserida (142,86 mg/dl), LDL (7,29 mg/dl) serta rataan HDL tertinggi (48,84 mg/dl). Penambahan ekstrak buah noni dan probiotik dapat memberikan pengaruh positif terhadap profil darah ayam pedaging.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to analyze the increase in body dimensions of post-weaning female Holstein Friesian (HF) calves fed with lactation cow concentrate with different levels of calf starter substitution. The material was 4 post-weaning female HF calves aged 4-5 months, with an average weight of 101.38 ± 14.21 kg. The feed consisted of elephant grass, calf starter (CS), and lactation cow concentrate (LCC). The study used a Latin square design, with 4 concentrate treatments, i.e. P1 (75% CS and 25% LCC), P2 (50% CS and 50% LCC), P3 (25% CS and 75% LCC), P4 (100% LCC); and 4 replications in 4 periods (each period in 1 month). The concentrate was given 1% BW in the dry matter; elephant grass and drinking water were provided in a measurable ad libitum. The research parameters were the increase in body dimensions (heart girth (HG), body length (BL), and withers height (WH)). The treatments had no significant effect (p>0.05) on the increase in body dimensions, were P1 (HG = 2.31 cm/month, BL = 4.75 cm/month, WH = 1.95 cm/month), P2 (HG = 4.23 cm/month, BL = 4.38 cm/month, WH = 2.23 cm/month), P3 (HG = 4.60 cm/month, BL = 4.38 cm/month, WH = 2.35 cm/month), P4 (HG = 4,10 cm/month, BL = 3.48 cm/month, WH = 2.18 cm/month). It was concluded that with sufficient quality forage feed, giving 100% LCC to post-weaning female HF calves could result in an increase in body dimensions that was relatively the same as the substitution of CS (25-75%) in LCC as concentrate feed.Keywords: post-weaning female HF calves, body dimensions, calf starter, lactation cow concentrate

Abstract

ABSTRAK. Tingkat peradangan ambing merupakan salah satu faktor yang dapat mempengaruhi produksi dan kualitas susu sapi. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui hubungan antara produksi dan kualitas susu yang dihasilkan sapi mastitis. Materi yang digunakan adalah 30 ekor sapi perah Friesian Holstein (FH) dengan periode laktasi III-V dan bulan laktasi 3-4. Tingkat peradangan ambing diuji menggunakan California mastitis test (X1) dan jumlah sel somatik (X2) dengan metode Breed dihubungkan dengan produksi (Y1) atau kualitas susu (lemak : Y2, protein = Y3 dan laktosa = Y4). Analisis yang digunakan adalah analisis regresi linier berganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan sebanyak 30% kuartir ambing dinyatakan sehat sedangkan 70% kuartir ambing terinfeksi mastitis subklinis dengan tingkat peradangan yang berbeda. Terdapat hubungan antara tingkat peradangan ambing dengan produksi susu berpola linier negatif nyata (P 0,05) dengan persamaan Y1 = 16,126 - 3,064X1 - 0,001X2 dan koefisien korelasi kuat (r = 0,740). Hubungan antara tingkat peradangan ambing dengan kualitas susu (lemak, protein, laktosa) berpola linier negatif nyata (P 0,05) dengan persamaan Y2 = 3,481 - 0,157X1 - 0,000X2 (r = 0,739), Y3 = 3,048 - 0,124X1 - 0,000X2 (r = 0,653) dan Y4 = 4,605 - 0,106X1 - 0,001X2 (r = 0,623). Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah terdapat hubungan antara tingkat peradangan ambing dengan produksi dan kualitas susu dimana semakin tinggi tingkat peradangan ambing maka produksi dan kualitas susu akan mengalami penurunan.(Evaluation of milk production and quality in mastitis cows)ABSTRACT. The level of udder inflammation is one of the factors that can affect the production and quality of cow's milk. This study was aimed to determine the relationship between milk production and quality produced by mastitis cows. The material used was 30 Friesian Holstein (FH) dairy cows with a lactation period of III-V and a lactation month of 3-4. Inflammation degree of the mammary gland was determined by the California mastitis test (X1) and somatic cell count (X2) with a breed method relationship between milk production (Y1) or milk quality (fat: Y2, protein: Y3, and lactose: Y4) were determined by the multiple linear regression. The results showed that 30% of the udder quarter were healthy while 70% of the udder quarter were infected with mastitis with different levels of inflammation. There was a strong negative correlation (P 0,05; r = 0.740) between milk production, CMT and SCC score with Y1 = 16.126 - 3.064X1 - 0.001X2. Moreover, the correlation between milk production and milk quality (fat, protein, lactose) also showed a strong negative linear correlation (P 0,05) with the equation Y2 = 3.481 - 0.157X1 - 0.000X2 (r = 0.739), Y3 = 3.048 - 0.124X1 - 0.000X2 (r = 0.653) and Y4 = 4.605 - 0.106X1 - 0.001X2 (r = 0.623). In conclusion, the increased mammary inflammation level will result the decrease in milk production and milk quality.

Abstract

ABSTRAK. Penelitian dilakukan untuk mengetahui efektifitas ekstrak daun babadotan sebagai bahan aktif cairan pencelup puting (teat dipping) untuk menghambat masuknya bakteri melalui puting, serta membandingkan efektifitasnya dengan povidone iodine. Dua belas ekor sapi perah laktasi penderita mastitis subklinis digunakan dalam rancangan acak lengkap (RAL). Perlakuan berupa teat dipping menggunakan ekstrak daun babadotan 5%, 10%, 15% dan povidone iodine 10% selama 14 hari. Tingkat peradangan kelenjar ambing diketahui dari penjumlahan skor California mastitis test (CMT) dari keempat puting sapi. Hasil penelitian menunjukan penurunan rata-rata total koloni bakteri dalam susu yang sangat signifikan (P0.01) dari 6,1-7,3 log cfu/ml sebelum pencelupan menjadi 4,4-6,0 log cfu/ml sesudah pencelupan. Tidak ada perbedaan efektifitas sebagai antibakteri antara ekstrak daun babadotan dan povidone iodine dalam menurunkan total koloni bakteri dalam susu. Terjadi penurunan tingkat peradangan kelenjar ambing (P0.01) dari rata-rata 6,9 sebelum teat dipping menjadi 4,2 sesudah teat dipping. Persentase penurunan tingkat peradangan ambing ekstrak daun babadotan lebih tinggi (P0.05) dari povidone iodine. pH susu setelah dipping lebih rendah (P0,05) dari pH susu sebelum dipping. Berdasarkan hasil dapat disimpulkan ekstrak daun babadotan dapat digunakan sebagai alternative antiseptik yang bertindak sebagai anti bakteri dan anti inflamasi dengan konsentrasi terbaik 5% ekstrak.(Effectiveness of Ageratum conyzoides leaves extract as green antiseptic for teat dipping practices in dairy cow)ABSTRACT. The research was conducted to determine the effectiveness babadotan leaf extract (BLE) as an active ingredient of antiseptic teat dip for inhibiting the entry of bacteria through the nipple, and to compare its effectiveness with synthetic antiseptic povidone iodine(PI). Twelve lactating dairycows suffering from subclinical mastitis were used in a completely randomized design. Teat dipping use 5%, 10% and 15% of BLE and PI 10% for 14 days. The result show average total bacterial colonies in milk was reduced significantly (P0.01) from 6,1-7,3log cfu/ml at before dipping to 4,4-6,0 log cfu/ml after dipping. There are no differences between BLE and PI in reducing total bacterial colonies. A decline in the level of the mammary glands inflammation (P0.01) from an average at before teat dipping 6.9 to 4.2 after teat dipping. Compared with PI, the percentage decrease in the level of mammary glands inflammation of cows using BLE antiseptic is significantly higher (P0.05). Milk pH at after teat dipping practices is lower (P0.05) than before dipping. In conclusion, BLE can be used as an alternativeantiseptic due to its effectiveness as antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. The recommendation concentration of the babadotan antiseptic is 5% of extract.

Abstract

(Green antibiotic betel leaf (Piper betle l.) as a substitute for commercial antibiotic in mastitis treatment)ABSTRACT. The present study was carried out to investigate the possible antibacterial activity of betel leaf on the amount and microscopic appearance of mastitis-causing bacteria. The randomized block design with 5 treatment groups were : K group (mastitis milk only as negative control), Ab group (mastitis milk + antibiotic penicillin-dihydrostreptomycin as positive control), S1 group (mastitis milk + 1,25 ml betel leaf water extract), S2 group (mastitis milk+ 2,5 ml betel leaf water extract), and S3 group (mastitis milk + 5 ml betel leaf water extract). The result showed that the amount of bacteria in the betel leaves groups (S1, S2, and S3 groups) were lower (P 0,05) than that of the control group (K group). Nonetheless the different concentration of betel leaf water extract in the S1, S2 and S3 groups did not affect to the amount of bacteria (P 0,05). Moreover, this research showed that betel leaf water extract had the same effectiveness with commercial antibiotic penicillin-dihydrostreptomycin to inhibit the growth of bacteria as indicated by the same amount of bacteria (P0,05) among the betel leaf groups (S1, S2, and S3 groups) and the Ab group. Gram-positive and negative bacteria were seen in the K group. However, only Gram-negative bacteria were visible in the betel leaf groups (S1, S2, and S3 groups) and in the Ab groups, indicating that betel leaf had the same effectiveness as penicillin-dihydrostreptomycin to inhibit the growth of Gram-positive bacteria.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh ekstrak buah mengkudu (Morinda citrifolia L.)terhadap bobot relatif bursa, timus dan limpa serta rasio heterofil-limfosit (H/L). Ternak percobaan yang digunakan adalah ayam broiler sebanyak 144 ekor dengan rata-rata bobot badan 196 ± 10 gram. Bahan yang digunakan meliputi zink basitrasin, tepung mengkudu dan ekstrak buah mengkudu. Penelitian disusun dalam Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 6 perlakuan dan 4 ulangan (masing-masing flock 6 ekor). Perlakuan yang diberikan yaitu T0 (ransum kontrol), T1 (ransum + 0,04%zink basitrasin), T2 (ransum+ 1,5%tepung buah mengkudu), T3 (ransum + 0,04% ekstrak buah mengkudu), T4 (ransum + 0,08% ekstrak buah mengkudu), T5 (ransum + 0,12% ekstrak buah mengkudu). Pengukuran parameter diambil satu ekor ayam dari masing-masing folck. Parameter yang diamati adalah bobot relatif bursa fabrisius, timus dan limpa serta rasio heterofil-limfosit (H/L). Data dianalisis ragam dan uji Duncan pada taraf 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan ekstrak buah mengkudu berpengaruh nyata (P<0,5)meningkatkan pada bobot bursa tapi pada taraf normal, sedangkan nyata menurunkan bobot timus, berbeda halnya bobot limpa T2 nyata menurunkan tetapi T5 kembali meningkat sama dengan T0, rasio H/L T4 nyata paling tinggi sedangkan lainnya sama. Simpulan adalah penambahan ekstrak mengkudu level 0,12% (T5) dapat mempertahankan bobot relatif organ limfoid dan rasio heterofil-limfosit.
