The data were collected using interviews and observations. Two coordinators for students with disabilities and five teachers were interviewed about policies and learning processes during the pandemic. The observation was done during the learning process. The secondary data was also collected by searching in their social media and e-learning platforms. The data analysis showed that the adaptation strategies were to coordinate and regularly collaborate between parent-teachers-students, build community cooperation, and make flexible and accessible learning policies. It proved that the two Muhammadiyah inclusion schools in Surabaya had adapted to online learning during the pandemic COVID-19. However, the two schools still need to improve quality, especially in creating an accessible asynchronous learning platform for students with disabilities.

Abstract

This Present study is used a qualitative method that prioritizes information on the novel text and interpretation it into the analysis. The data was taken from a novel entitled Shine by Jessica Jung, and several journals and books as supporting data. The focus of this study is the main character in the Shine novel, Rachel Kim. This study is about postcolonialism. Rachel Kim had experienced identity issues that occurred in her life. This research aims to describe how the identity issue occurred in Rachel. An overview of the identity issues experienced by Rachel is explained in the discussion of this article. Unhomeliness and hybridity are concepts described in the phenomena that occurred to Rachel. Unhomeliness is a sense of a person caught in two cultures. Hybridity is the strategy of colonized become the part of the colonizer. Both theories analyze the identity issues experienced by the main characters in the novel. The reference used is the theory of unhomeliness and hybridity is to use the concept of Homi. K. Bhaba. Unhomeliness analysis refers to the phenomenon of racism, discrimination, and rejection of the main character. As a result, the main character got mockery jokes and physical appearance toward her. The main character was sorrowful and upset being Korean in America. Furthermore, the analysis of hybridity described in the phenomenon Rachel wants to become a K-pop star. Along with her move from America to Korea, she also got rejected in Korea. The cause of rejection in Korea was because of her American background. Even though she got treated like that, she still struggles to achieve her dream as a K-pop star. The analysis proved the hybridity phenomenon had a relationship with the cause of Rachel's unhomeliness. The result of this study was the main character hybridized her identity. The first perceived experience phenomenon by the main character is unhomeliness and the second is hybridity. Being a K-pop star is made her proud as a Korean. As well as being a K-pop star who has Korean America would make her special in the entertainment industry. Thus, Rachel's identity is not fixed but hybridized.

Abstract

In April and September 2022, students in various regions in Indonesia held demonstrations. These activities demanded and protested against the government's discourse on the policy of 3 presidential terms. Meanwhile, in September, there was an action against the increase in fuel prices. Like the previous demonstrations, the action used posters as a medium of public communication. What was interesting about the posters was the content of the demonstration. The content of the posters tended to be more related to the body and sexual matters. The content used more metaphors of everyday life related to sexual activity. This spread massively in many social media. Through Theo Van Leeuwen's critical discourse analysis method, this research discusses several sexist poster texts and analyzes the social context behind the phenomenon.  There are two assumptions that this paper tries to address. First, the poster content that appears is sexist content that demeans women. The second is that it is part of an expression of women's resistance to bodily restraint. Both arguments above will be reviewed in this paper. This research found that there was sexist content in posters that used direct or indirect expressions of sexism. The sexist expressions in the posters also show misogynistic practices because posters that denigrate women come from women. Findings also show that the sexist language used leads to pornography. Keywords: demonstration, poster, sexism, women, cda

As one of the learning media, music has been used in hip-hop extracurricular classes at an elementary school in Indonesia. This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of learning English by using music on how teacher exposure English and culture to the students. This study used a qualitative method with purposeful sampling technique with extreme case sampling strategy. The data obtained from observation, teacher interview, and video stimulated recall. The results of teaching English with rap music in the hip-hop extracurricular classes included speed rap, rhyming word, verb rap, and battle rap lyric. These teaching activities emphasized only on the form and word meaning. Hip-hop culture was taught through language and style. Teacher taught the student to know hook while he was concerning about student’s English level. Besides, rap styles were taught on how the student dance and wear costume while they were performing in the stage. Since the school has Islamic identity, the teacher integrated the rap styles with Islamic culture. Thus, the teacher preferred to teach his own rap creation rather than adopted rap content from internet or other sources. Although there were no significant results in improving students' English comprehension, hip-hop music in extracurricular classes makes students feel happy and relaxed. Laforgue-Bullido, Abril-Hervás, & Malik-Liévano (2024) stated that the potential benefit of hip-hop as an educational tool by making subject content more engaging, which encouraged teachers to use it as hook’ to capture student’ interest.

Abstract

Children's books with Islamic content are popular in Indonesia. The motivation of parents to introduce this genre of books is to help them teach their children the faith and knowledge of Islam from an early age. The more complete the information about Islam available in the book, the more parents will consider buying the book. Meanwhile, consideration of books with content that introduces gender equity needs to be considered. This study analyzes the gender bias in stories of Islamic content. The books analyzed are several popular books published by various different publishers. The research method used was qualitative and the narrative and visual data were critically analyzed with a gender perspective. Feminist linguistics was used to more deeply reveal the signs that will be described based on the context that surrounds the female character. The depiction of women in the four books is generally represented by traditional gender patterns. The female figure is depicted as dependent on men, not involved in dominant narratives. The female characters are described as weak while the male characters are described as stronger without regard to the female character.

Abstract

Due to anti-aging popular products, people, especially urban women, can now delay aging. It changes the concept of aging and also influences how urban women think and act. This article examines the practices of middle-aged women, how they perceive using popular and trending anti-aging skincare, what motivated them to do so, and how women try not to grow old with specific goals. We interviewed ten women in urban areas, classified as midlife women aged 35 years and over. They comprised varied professions, classes, economic status, regional identity, age, and anti-aging products and brands. Interviews were unstructured to provide multiple opportunities and allow participants to talk flexibly about their practices and experiences using their own words. The findings indicated that there was a practice of life styling, namely behavior that merely demonstrated a particular lifestyle without being supported by economic capacity, which was the basis of actual consumption. Lower middle-class women demonstrated these practices, while the upper-class women's habits provided no less exciting insights. They consume anti-aging skin care for distinction purposes, as a practice of distinguishing oneself from others regarding appearance, social class, and identity.
