<![CDATA[The aim of this study is to determine whether or not there is an effect on the use of generative learning strategy to improve students’ writing skill in descriptive texts at grade eight of SMP N 6 Tondano. This study involves 30 students consisting 15 students in experimental group and 15 students in control group. This study uses a quantitative research design which is a quasi-experimental research. Data collecting is done by giving a test to write a descriptive text with pre-test and post-test, by students’ in two groups. The mean score of experimental group is 17.73 and control group was 9.6. The data are analyzed using the t-test formula, the results is 5.055. The degrees of freedom is 28 were competency interval 0.05 (95%) is 2.048 and 0,01 (99%) is 2.763. Based on the result, it can be concluded that students’ skill in writing descriptive texts using generative learning increases, but does not increase significantly because from the post-test results on experimental group there are no students’ who are able to achieve score above the KKM. So, the researchers suggest that generative learning strategy should be replaced with other learning strategy.]]>

<![CDATA[The purpose of this study was to reveal about violence against African-American slaves; the kinds of violence and impacts of violence to the slaves in Solomon Northup’s Twelve Years a Slave. This study is classified as a qualitative research because the writers gathered the data in the form of words as well as quotation from the work itself. The writers collected the data from two kinds of sources, namely primary source and secondary source. The primary source was taken from the novel Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup, and the secondary sources are the other material that supports the research such as books, articles and websites. This study used a Sociological approach which regards the literary work as a social document that reflects the situation when the literary work was created. The results of this study showed that there are two kinds of violence against African-American slaves in Northup’s work; physical violence and psychological violence. The acts of violence wasreceived by the slaves result in some impacts include physical impact such as, suffering in pain, injury, and sick; and psychological impact such as, fear, trauma, and depression. Through sociological approach, it can be concluded that the novel Twelve Years a Slave really explained the real social condition of African-American slaves that occurred in the 19th century, where they experienced acts of violence from their white masters during slavery.]]>

<![CDATA[The purpose of this study is to find out the whether youtube social media increasing students’ vocabulary at GPDI Berea Tondano Junior High School. The subject of the study is Eight Grade Student. The result of this study shows that mean score Post-test (82.75) was higher than mean score Pre-test (32.5). Paired Sample Test showed that the significance value of 0.000, meaning less than 0.05, then Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. The result means there was a significance difference between before and after treatment. The normality test using the SPSS Program known that 4.20 (>0.05). Based on the result of this study shows increasing students’ vocabulary through application of social media youtube has a big chance and really effective to increase students’ vocabulary.]]>

<![CDATA["Using Board Race Game to promote the students' vocabulary mastery at VIII grade kids of SMP Anugrah Tondano" was the topic of this study. This study sought to determine if the Board Race game improved pupils' vocabularies. This study was carried out using a quantitative approach. This study used an experimental pre-test and post-test design in one class. This study focused on the first grade at SMP Anugrah Tondano, which included 20 pupils. Each test consisted of 20 numbers, which were delivered to the pupils. According to the study's findings, the post-test's mean score (68) was higher than the pre-test's (38.25). Based on the findings, it was possible to draw the conclusion that utilizing a board race game to teach kids vocabulary was beneficial since it might motivate them to study and help them retain more words.]]>

<![CDATA[The aim of the research is to improve the students’ vocabulary through the use of Glossing technique. The design of this research is quantitative research through pre-experimental design with pre-test and post-test design This study was conducted at SMP Anugrah Tondano. The subject of the research was the second grade students in academic year of 2019/2020. The writer used reading text of Narrative text .The result of the data analysis showed that there was an increase between the pre-test and post-test. It can be seen from 10 students showed that the mean score of pre-test was 53 and post-test was 74 score. Based on this finding from this study, it can be concluded that having more vocabulary significantly affects the comprehension of the students reading activity. Moreover by having many vocabulary the students can easily get the information and can enrich their knowledge by reading a lot of book. Finally, this research proved that the Glossing technique effective to improve student’s vocabulary in reading comprehension.]]>

<![CDATA[During the COVID-19 pandemic, education has become an important issue especially how distance learning is one of the options taken by almost all schools in Indonesia in reducing the spread of the COVID-19 virus. In this connection, it is related with the conditions where English is no longer the main subject in elementary school and will greatly affect the learning process of students when they enter junior high school where they will learn a lot of basic things from English and actually taught during elementary school. This research is proved whether the use of Flashcards in teaching vocabulary can increase students’ vocabulary mastery or not. This research delimits on verb only, especially to the common words or daily words used in describing the action, for instance: ordinary verb, transitive verb and intransitive verb. The verb, which is needed, and do not need the object and also the primary verb in used. The findings show that the post-test had a higher score than the pre-test. Pre-test shown the Mean score (T ̅1 = 73.63) and Standard Deviation (S12 = 76.6) are the lower than post-test in which the mean score (T ̅2 = 87.5) and Standard Deviation (S22 = 87.5) in post-test. It meant that the result of post-test after treatment is better than the pre-test before treatment. Based on the result of research, appyling technique using Flashcards to increasing students’ vocabulary mastery is effective.]]>

<![CDATA[The purpose of this study was to determine whether employing narrative texts could effectively improve the reading abilities of students in SMA Negeri 2 Tondano's tenth grade. This study employed a pre-experimental design with pre- and post-tests conducted on two groups, and a make a match treatment. As a result, post-test scores were better than pre-test scores. The post-test result was better than the pre-test since the mean score for the pre-test was 4.85 and the mean score for the post-test was 7.25. It may be said that SMA Negeri 2 Tondano students have strong reading abilities in the tenth grade. Even with a little treatment it can make them active in responding to a number of things that need to be improved in narrative text skills. So, the tenth grade pupils at SMA Negeri 2 Tondano were able to read more fluently thanks to narrative text, even just using a small treatment in the middle of learning.]]>

<![CDATA[The purpose of this study is to investigate whether the use of images can improve students' reading comprehension of descriptive text. This study was conducted at SMP Negeri 6 Manado. This study was quantitative study with one group pre-test and post-test as the design. The teaching method used for treatment was images. The population of this study consisted of 7 classes in the second grade, and the sample of this study consisted of VIII, and 25 students. They analyzed statistically, taking into account the average score of the test. The results of this study showed that the post-examination score was higher than the pre-examination. The average score for the post-test (T2) is 8,52 and the average score for the pre-test (T1) is 5. This shows that the use of diagrams improves the student's comprehension of the explanatory text. The results of can conclude that it is effective to use figures when teaching explanatory texts.]]>
