Abstract

Abstract

Since the agreements of Environmental Sustainability Development (ESD) was initiated, environment issue has become an essential concern for daily business activities. This leads corporates to implement environmental strategy, especially in the proactive manner. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of institutional pressures on proactive environmental practices and to examine the implication of proactive strategy to the corporate reputation. Using survey data from 76 companies in Indonesia, multiple regression analysis showed that pressure from competitors and professional networks positively influenced proactive strategies, while regulatory pressure did not influence proactive strategies. Our evidence implied that external factors from competitors and professional networks pressures were important driving forces for corporates to apply proactive strategies. In addition, this study found a positive influence of proactive strategy on corporate reputation.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of work-family conflict, and flexible work arrangements as moderating variable on the intention to leave for female and male employees.  The population in this study is hotel employees in Yogyakarta. The sample population chosen was hotel employee who has married, has children, and does not live with parents and parent in-law. Overall, work-family conflict positively influenced intention to leave. There is difference result in regard to moderating variable, as for the female employees a flexible work arrangement moderates the relationship between work-family conflict and turnover intention, while for male workers the moderating effect is not significant. The practical implication is turnover intention can be avoided by creating and developing comfortable work condition and environment where supervisor and colleagues are supporting each other. By developing a comfortable atmosphere, it is expected that negative emotions triggering work-family conflict will be eliminated so employees do not have any reason to leave the organization anymore, especially to women employees. This study offers a new insight which gender might take important roles in the utilization of flexible work arrangements. It is suggested for future research that considering sample population from other industries such as banking industry and hospital may make research more generalizable.

Abstract

Along with technological developments in the payment system, the role of cash as a means of payment began to be replaced by a more efficient and economical form of non-cash payment such as electronic money. However, the use of electronic money in Indonesia has not increased and the percentage of users of it is far behind compared with other countries. This study aims to apply the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) with Locus of Control (LOC) as a moderating variable in the context of the use of electronic money. The community of DIY consisted of 1 municipality and 4 districts were selected as the sample of this study. The results of this study indicate in general that the variable attitude to behavior as well as control of perceptive behavior have a positive effect on the intention of using electronic money while subjective norms are not proven to significantly affect the intention. However, especially for the respondents who live in the village, the subjective norm variable actually affects the intention of using the electronic money, while the variable control of perceptive behavior has no effect on the intention. Locus of Control (LOC) is not proven to moderate the existing variables in the Theory of Planned Behavior with the intention of using electronic money.JEL Classification: D91; O33; P25DOI: https://doi.org/10.26905/jkdp.v22i2.1691

Abstract

The purposes of this research are: (1) to examine the information content of  merger and acquisition announcement in acquiring and nonacquiring firm in the same industrial sector and (2) to determine whether there is information transfer in the same industrial sector.Using sample firms of manufacturing industry listed in Jakarta Stock Exchange and research period of 1991-1997, the result shows that, in general, there is information content in merger and acquisition announcement for acquiring and nonacquiring firms. The study also indicates that there is information transfer between firms in the manufacturing industry for merger and acquisition announcement case. Another findings is that there is information leakage, i.e. the public knows information about merger and acquisition prior to the announcement.

Abstract

Introduction/Main Objectives: This study aims to depict the scientific landscape for the innovation policy mix (IPM) from 2012 to 2019 since its re-conceptualization by Flanagan, Uyarra, and Laranja (2011).Background Problems: The seminal work has broadened policy mix thinking with social issues impacting innovation. Since every organization is part of the innovation policy system, this study takes the first step to introduce IPM into management fields by identifying and discussing subsequent works in research trajectories.Novelty: This study shows the remarkable progress toward a mature concept through IPM’s definition, characteristics, and boundaries. As a new string of interdisciplinary social science research, some opportunities and challenges are revealed, allowing future studies to be conducted in more theoretically sounding research traditions.Research Methods: This study applies systematic literature network analysis (SLNA) relying on objective measures from keyword co-occurrences and co-citations networks. It includes 60 articles analyzed using open-source software, i.e., Publish or Perish, Google Scholar database, VOSviewer, and the web-based Local Citation Network.Finding/Results: There are three clusters in the main path of research trajectories, i.e., IPM’s conceptualization, its characteristics for evaluation and measurement, and contextualization. Future research directions are proposed to advance our understanding of the organizational environment and its impact on innovation. Conclusion: IPM studies have opened opportunities to test and extend theories in strategic management and organization studies, especially for leaders who make decisions in the face of dynamic and demanding environments. Moreover, contextualization in developing countries would be a worthwhile exercise by considering the institutional and cultural context.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of resource complementarity on a post-merger and acquisition company's performance, moderated by the bidder's merger and acquisition experience. Resource complementarity is an important aspect that needs to be considered when carrying out mergers and acquisitions (M&A). This study uses a purposive sampling method, which has specific criteria for selecting the sample, while the dataset is cross-sectional. Tests have been conducted on 97 non-financial companies that carried out M&A in Southeast Asia between 2007 to 2017, and their post-M&A performance has been examined. This research’s methodology utilizes a quantitative approach and explanatory variables. The results indicate that resource complementarity has a significant effect on the performance of post-M&A companies. In other words, resource complementarity has a positive and significant effect on changes in the performance of companies after their M&A. The moderation test shows exciting findings, namely, for companies with little experience, the effect of resource complementarity on post-M&A performance is more substantial. This study has practical recommendations for decision-makers. When conducting their M&A, organizations should select targets with complementary resources and not depend on prior experience, since it is not necessarily applicable to the present circumstances. Furthermore, as they integrate feedback systems to relate earlier experiences, the acquisition experience will have a more robust learning impact.

Abstract

Introduction/Main Objectives: The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between empathetic leadership and employees' job satisfaction and the intention to leave with needs’ satisfaction as a mediating variable among millennials in a start-up business. The number of millennials will only continue to grow, and by 2025 it is expected that 75% of the global workforce will be millennials. In particular, empathetic leadership will be required to manage and control this generation if the organizations they choose to work for are to be successful, as this generation’s members have different characteristics compared to those of the older generations. Design/methodology/approach: Following a cross-sectional research design, this research collected data from 137 millennial employees of start-up companies in Indonesia. A structural equation modeling technique was used for the data’s analysis. Findings: The results reveal that empathetic leadership has a direct and positive relationship with employees' job satisfaction and has a direct and negative relationship with the intention to leave. Needs’ satisfaction partially mediates these relationships. Originality: This study makes a novel contribution to the existing literature by first providing empirical evidence that among the three dimensions of needs’ satisfaction only the relatedness dimension passed the measurement test in the structural equation modeling. Second, empathetic leadership is proven to increase job satisfaction and reduce the intention to leave among millennials, considering their unique characteristics. Research limitations/implications: The research was conducted during COVID-19 pandemic. Circumstances related to that pandemic might influence the result of this study. It is, therefore suggested to conduct the study again under normal circumstances. Policy and Practical implications: The findings of this study suggest managers should develop an empathetic leadership style in order to better manage the millennials. Leaders can be nurtured, but disciplined efforts have to be invested in their creation.
