Abstract

The emission of nitrogen oxide (NOx), nitrogen monoxide (NO) and carbon monoxide (CO) from vehicle exhaust gas generates an adverse effect to the environment as well as the human health. Therefore, the need to reduce such emission is urgent. The decrease of the emission can be achieved through the use of catalytic converter. This study explains the application of catalytic converter prepared from activated carbon to enhance the activity through its adsorption ability. The activated carbon was derived from banana peels after heating them up at 400 ºC for 1.5 hours and activation using natrium hydroxide (NaOH). Several techniques including N2 adsorption-desorption, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy-Electron Dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX), and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) were adopted to characterize the activated carbon properties. The activated carbon formed was then coated with copper. The activity of the catalytic converter using activated carbon coated with copper was then tested for its performance on diesel engine Yanmar TF 70 LY-DI with variations in the number of catalyst layers, namely 1 layer (C1), 2 layers (C2) and 3 layers (C3). Sample with three layers (C3) of catalyst exhibited the highest activity with the percentage efficiency in reducing emissions concentration of 48.76 %; 31.27 % and 29.35 % for NOx, NO and CO, respectively.

Abstract

Kaolin with alumina and silica content is used as the main material in this research to study the synthesis of ZSM-5 zeolite. The hydrothermal process was carried out through different aging times, namely 12, 24 and 36 hours. Tetrapropyl ammonium bromide (TPABr) was used as a template for the Mobile Five-1 (MFI) structure guide. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) instruments were used to characterize the ZSM-5 zeolite formed from the synthesis results. This was done to identify the phase change from kaolin to zeolite ZSM-5. The results of the analysis using XRD for all samples showed a characteristic peak of the ZSM-5 zeolite at 2θ around 7.88°; 8.72° ;23.09°; 23.84° and 24.32°. However, samples with an aging time of 12 hours also showed peaks at 2θ around 15.84° and 26.03° which indicated an analsim phase. The absorption bands from the FTIR characterization for all samples are seen at wave numbers around 453, 542, 793, 1088 and 1221 cm−1 which are the characteristic peak points of ZSM-5 zeolite. The longer the aging time indicates that the crystallinity of the ZSM-5 zeolite is increasing. The highest crystallinity was obtained from ZSM-5 zeolite samples which were aged for 36 hours. This indicates an increasing number of ZSM-5 crystal nuclei with high purity because there is no other phase besides the ZSM-5 phase.

Abstract

In this study, we report biodiesel production from waste cooking oil using CaO catalyst derived from Madura limestone through a transesterification reaction. Many limestone quarries in Madura can be used as heterogeneous catalysts because they are cheap, easy to separate, and have high basicity. Conversion of limestone into CaO catalyst through calcination at 900°C for 3 hours. The CaO catalyst formed was characterized using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR), and Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive X-Ray (SEM-EDX) instruments. Biodiesel formed through the transesterification reaction was analyzed using GC-MS. Furthermore, biodiesel blends from waste cooking oil and pure diesel were prepared in volume percentages (B-10, B-20, B-30, B-40, and B-100) for testing on diesel engine performance. The results of testing the highest torque and brake horsepower (BHP) were obtained on pure diesel fuel (S-100) at 2.49 Nm and 381.12 watts, respectively. The lowest fuel consumption at 1500 rpm is produced on the B-20 at 0.186 kg/h. Overall, the emission characteristics of carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and nitrogen monoxide (NO) with the lowest concentration resulted from biodiesel blends rather than pure diesel.

Abstract

Mayoritas sekolah swasta khususnya pesantren di Madura mengalami masalah dalam kualitas akademik dan administrasi. Seluruh proses administrasi yang dilakukan secara manual bisa mengurangi konsentrasi sekolah pada pengembangan kualitas akademik siswa. Salah satunya adalah perihal presensi kehadiran baik siswa, guru maupun pegawai pendidikan lainnya. Sekolah berbasis pesantren, dimana siswa yang juga santri tinggal di asrama pesantren sehingga sekolah memiliki masalah koordinasi antara sekolah dengan pesantren. Untuk meningkatkan keefektifan dan kedisiplinan dalam hal Presensi atau kehadiran terhadap siswa, guru maupun pegawai kependidikan di SMK Al Miftah Pamekasan, maka kami membuat sistem presensi fingerprint dan monitoring kehadiran berbasis web menggunakan Framework Laravel. Hal ini dilakukan agar memberikan kemudahan dalam akses perekapan data. Sehingga data tidak dikelola secara manual dan sudah terintegrasi dengan sistem presensi. Penggunaan fingerprint sebagai sistem presensi telah terbukti memberikan dampak baik bagi kedisiplinan penggunanya. Dalam kegiatan proses belajar mengajar presensi memberikan banyak informasi penting, yang didapat terkait dengan siswa. Perancangan sistem presensi-presensi berbasis fingerprint dibuat dengan metode waterfall agar dapat memberikan kemudahan bagi pihak sekolah untuk merekap data kehadiran siswa.

Abstract

Menulis artikel ilmiah populer memang bukan pekerjaan yang mudah. Setiap orang merasakan kesulitannya, mulai dari menggali ide hingga meluangkan waktu untuk menulis. Kemampuan inilah yang dirasakan oleh bapak dan ibu guru di SMP Zainuddin Waru Sidoarjo. Mereka mengaku kesulitan menulis artikel ilmiah popular yang berbentuk esai dan opini. Hal ini dipicu dari keadaan para guru yang belum memiliki wawasan cukup tentang kepenulisan serta belum terbiasa melakukan penelitian. Guru di SMP Zainuddin Waru Sidoarjo membutuhkan motivasi dalam menulis, penulisan dengan bahasa formal, menulis nonfiksi, tata bahasa untuk menulis, menulis artikel, diksi, pengembangan paragraf, keterampilan menyambungkan kalimat, menemukan ide, merangkai kata, menyatukan ide, dan mengembangkan paragraf. Sesuai dengan uraian permasalahan yang dihadapi mitra, solusi yang diberikan adalah klinik menulis artikel ilmiah popular dengan menggunakan aplikasi KBM App. KBM adalah singkatan dari Komunitas Bisa Menulis. KBM App tersedia dalam dua versi. Ada versi aplikasi yang bisa diunduh dari google play store dan website. Namun, dalam klinik menulis ini, Guru di SMP Zainuddin, Waru, Sidoarjo akan diajarkan menulis melalui aplikasi KBM App yang tersedia di google playstore. Tujuannya adalah memudahkan guru dalam menulis ketika senggang sehingga dapat mendukung visi dari sekolah yaitu menjadi sekolah penulis. Pasalnya, Handphone adalah alat komunikasi yang selalu dibawa ke mana-mana oleh guru. Hasil dari pengabdian masyarakat klinik menulis artikel menggunakan aplikasi KBM App menunjukkan bahwa sekitar 66,7% guru menjawab tepat dalam menggunakan aplikasi ini dan merasa puas dalam kegiatan pelatihan menulis artikel berdasarkan pengisian kuesioner secara online. Selain itu 50% guru juga merasa sangat mudah dalam menggunakan aplikasi KBM App untuk menulis suatu artikel ilmiah.

Abstract

Kemampuan menulis ilmiah guru masih rendah, dipicu oleh keadaan para guru yang belum memiliki wawasan cukup tentang teknik menulis ilmiah, terutama dalam menyusun artikel ilmiah hasil penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK). Beberapa guru diketahui belum mengetahui detail tentang teknis pelaksanaan PTK dan penulisan artikel ilmiah hasil PTK yang sudah dilakukan. Dengan PTK, guru bisa melakukan evaluasi terhadap pembelajaran yang sudah dilaksanakan dan bisa mengedukasi guru yang lain dengan kreativitas mengajarnya di kelas. Hal ini dialami oleh bapak dan ibu guru di SMPN 2 Balongbendo. Guru belum mengetahui teknik yang tepat untuk melaksanakan PTK dan memublikasikannya ke dalam artikel ilmiah. Guru pun belum mengenal fitur media pendukung yang bisa digunakan untuk memudahkan guru dalam melaksanakan PTK dan menulis artikel ilmiah. Oleh karena itu tim pengabdian melakukan kegiatan berupa peningkatan profesionalisme guru melalui pendampingan menulis artikel ilmiah hasil penelitian Tindakan kelas dengan media Google Scholar dan Mendeley (GSM). Pada kegiatan ini guru akan didampingi dalam menulis artikel ilmiah hasil PTK hingga bisa submit pada jurnal ilmiah. Hasil pengabdian kepada masyarakat melalui kuesioner dari google form yang telah diisi para guru menunjukkan sebanyak 33,3% menjawab sangat sesuai dan 66,7% menjawab sesuai terkait materi yang telah disampaikan. Sedangkan sebanyak 66,7% menjawab sesuai dan 33,3% menjawab sangat sesuai terkait kesesuaian aplikasi Mendeley dan Google Scholar dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis para guru.

Abstract

Classroom Action Research is research conducted through action in the classroom by teachers where the target or research subjects are students. Its application is to carry out and make reports on research results that can be written in the form of scientific articles, especially in the field of education. Classroom Action Research is a strategic way for teachers to increase professionalism in teaching and learning activities. In fact, there are teachers who don't know about the technicalities of implementing Classroom Action Research and writing scientific articles. This is also experienced by the teachers at SMPN 2 Balongbendo. Therefore, we do community service at SMPN 2 Balongbendo by applying Google Scholar and Mendeley (GSM) technology to improve the ability to write scientific articles from the results of classroom action research for teachers. In this community service activity, teachers are accompanied in using GSM technology to write scientific articles and publish them. Teachers are also given evaluations in the form of quizzes regarding the material that has been delivered by the service team. In addition, questionnaires were also distributed in the form of Google forms and the results showed that the teachers were very enthusiastic in participating in community service activities. Based on the results of the questionnaire, it was shown that 66.7% answered appropriate and 33.3% answered very appropriate regarding the suitability of the Mendeley and Google Scholar applications in improving the ability to write scientific articles for teachers.
