Abstract

One measure of the impact of a new idea in geography education is how well the idea is put into everyday practice. Spatial thinking skills are actually not a new idea in geography education; Spatial analysis has long been one of its core traditions but the use of the term is new and has only just begun to be widely used. Spatial thinking skills are the use of spatial concepts such as distance, direction, and area; representational tools such as maps and graphs; along with appropriate thought processes, to conceptualize and solve problems. The aim of this article is to help teachers incorporate spatial thinking into their instruction through a concrete tool, the taxonomy of spatial thinking, applied to tried and true strategies of pedagogical questioning, both in text and in a classroom context. Our main premise is that students' spatial thinking can, and should, be facilitated by the careful design, selection, and use of questions.

Abstract

This research explores the potential of Lake Poso as a national Geopark area with a focus on geological heritage, biodiversity, and unique cultural diversity. The research results show that this area has significant geological evidence of the formation of Sulawesi Island, high biodiversity with endemic species, and a rich cultural heritage of the local community. The potential of Lake Poso as a National Geopark Area can protect and manage existing natural and cultural heritage, encourage sustainable economic development through tourism, and prioritize local wisdom and environmental sustainability. Even though there are obstacles such as limited understanding of the Geopark concept and accessibility, high public awareness and government support can overcome these challenges. The potential of Lake Poso as a National Geopark Area promises protection and preservation of natural and cultural heritage, providing economic and social benefits, as well as educating visitors about Indonesia's natural and cultural riches.

Abstract

The nationality insight should be owned by all Indonesian citizens. This insight is identical with civics knowledge. Besides, not only by studying civics knowledge anyone can improve their nationality insight, but also from other knowledge, such as by learning geography science. Understanding the environment is one of the scopes in geography science. Understanding the environment can possibbly to increase the nationality insight. This research aims to applying geo-literacy as a study method, so the student can improve their ability to understand the earth. The subject of this research is the 4th semester student of Geography Education Department, Faculty of Social Science Universitas Negeri Manado. Analyzing data is based on the calculation of the percentage of results of filling out questionnaires by respondents. The questionnaires formed by the author from literature study from the syntax of geo-literacy method (from the National Geographic Magazine) combine with the indicator of nationalism in the document of nationality by Lembaga Administrasi Negara Republik Indonesia. By applying geo-literacy as a study method in geography education, the majority of students strongly agree that geo-literacy has the ability to strenghtening student’s knowledge to know the world (by applying geographical approach) and make the best decision for the environment.

Abstract

Teknologi Global Positioning System (GPS) merupakan salah satu teknologi yang dapat digunakan untuk menentukan titik lokasi suatu tempat di permukaan bumi. Salah satu dari tools yang ada dalam GPS yaitu penentuan koordinat. Penentuan lokasi koodinat ini penting bagi seorang geografer untuk menandai dan membuat titik di suatu tempat. Tujuan pengabdian ini yaitu membuat ploting titik koodinat dengan GPS pada situs cagar budaya Megalit Pokekea. Pelaksanaan kegiatan ini merupakan bentuk pengabdian dan pengaplikasian ilmu geografi kepada mahasiwa melalui pendampingan langsung di lapangan. Hasil pengabdian yaitu penentuan titik koordinat Situs Megalitikum Pokekea dengan Global Positioning System (GPS) berada pada 141025’582” LS dan 120012’45.966” dan UTM 51 S. Hasil pelaksanaan program pengabdian kepada masyarakat dengan output peningkatan soft skill bagi mahasiswa dalam mengoperasikan GPS khususnya dalam penentuan koordinat lokasi di suatu tempat.

Abstract
