Abstract

This study aims to identify the strategies used by second-grade teachers in overcoming early reading difficulties at SDN Sidoharjo 02 and to explore the challenges encountered in their implementation. The research arises from the low early reading ability among lower-grade elementary students. A qualitative descriptive approach with a case study method was employed. Data were collected through interviews, classroom observations, and documentation involving one teacher and ten second-grade students. Data analysis followed an interactive model through data reduction, presentation, and verification.The findings reveal that teachers apply several key strategies, including daily reading habituation, turn-taking and group reading, individual guidance, and collaboration with parents. These strategies effectively improve students’ fluency and letter recognition. However, teachers face challenges such as varying reading abilities among students, limited instructional time, insufficient learning media, and minimal parental involvement. The study highlights the importance of collaboration among teachers, schools, and families in fostering early literacy skills. The results contribute to strengthening collaborative-based reading instruction practices in elementary schools.

Abstract

Self-confidence is a crucial aspect in elementary school student development, particularly in fostering courage, independence, and active participation during learning. Initial findings at SD Negeri 1 Weleri, though, showed that certain fourth-graders still struggled with self-confidence, demonstrated by their reluctance to share thoughts, anxiety when presenting, and passive engagement in class. This highlights the necessity for teachers to offer increased support and encouragement to help students acknowledge their strengths. Consequently, this research seeks to thoroughly investigate the self-confidence levels of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Weleri, assess the strategies teachers employ to nurture this confidence, and pinpoint factors that either aid or impede its development within the school setting. A qualitative research approach, utilizing a descriptive design, was adopted. Participants included fourth-grade teachers, the school principal, and the students themselves. Data was gathered through document analysis, direct observation, and detailed interviews. The validity of the data was established through source triangulation and participant verification. An interactive data analysis model encompassing data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion formation was used. The study’s findings are expected to enhance teachers’ understanding of how to create a secure, comfortable, and encouraging learning atmosphere, enabling students to feel appreciated, express themselves freely, and develop self-confidence as a crucial component of their overall development.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan penerapan media gambar seri sebagai sarana literasi kreatif dalam keterampilan menulis siswa kelas V SD Negeri Sidoharjo 02 dengan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif. Subjek penelitian terdiri atas satu guru dan 13 siswa yang dipilih secara purposif. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi, lalu dianalisis menggunakan model interaktif Miles Huberman. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan media gambar seri membantu siswa memahami struktur cerita, mengembangkan ide, dan membangun alur logis melalui tahapan observasi, interpretasi, penulisan, dan evaluasi, sehingga siswa menjadi lebih aktif, kreatif, dan percaya diri. Faktor pendukung keberhasilan meliputi kompetensi guru, antusiasme siswa, dan dukungan fasilitas sekolah, sedangkan hambatannya adalah keterbatasan waktu dan variasi kemampuan literasi. Penelitian ini memiliki kebaruan karena tidak hanya menilai peningkatan hasil belajar, tetapi juga mengungkap bagaimana media gambar seri berperan sebagai sarana pengembangan literasi kreatif melalui proses kognitif dan afektif siswa secara bersamaan, sehingga memperkaya kajian literasi visual dan verbal di sekolah dasar.

Abstract

Mathematics learning on plane geometry area in elementary schools still faces challenges related to students’ low conceptual understanding, as instruction often emphasizes procedural use of formulas. This condition raises the question of how learning media can be developed to support students in constructing a better understanding of plane geometry area concepts. This study aims to develop and analyze the effectiveness of constructivism-based interactive PowerPoint learning media in improving elementary school students’ understanding of plane geometry area. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, which consists of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The learning media were implemented with 17 randomly selected fifth-grade elementary school students. Data were collected through pretest and posttest and analyzed using the normalized gain (N-Gain). The results indicate an improvement in students’ conceptual understanding, with the average pretest score increasing from 50.12 to 69.18 in the posttest. The obtained N-Gain value of 0.38 falls into the moderate category. These findings suggest that constructivism-based interactive PowerPoint media can be used as an alternative learning medium to support students’ understanding of plane geometry area concepts more effectively.
