AbstractLearning to read Javanese script is an effort to preserve Javanese letters and Javanese culture. While in learning so far, reading Javanese script is mastered by students only during reading and writing lessons. They will quickly forget the characters they have learned once the material is finished. This kind of condition is certainly not good in mastering a subject matter. The approach model used in this research is the Research and Development (R&D) approach. Development research is research that is used to produce certain products, to test the effectiveness of these products. Research is used to produce certain products that are needs analysis and test the effectiveness of these products to function in the wider community, thus research is needed to test the quality of these products. To achieve this, research and development has a gradual nature in producing its products. Research and development (Research and Development) is a research method used to produce certain products and test the effectiveness of these products. The product development of textbooks on how to quickly read Javanese script with the Al-Barqy method for class VII students at State Junior High School 1 Ngoro Mojokerto has been developed and has been tested for validity and the product can be used in the implementation of product design for developing textbooks on how to quickly read Javanese script with the Al-Javanese method. Barqy is a seventh grader at the State Junior High School 1 Ngoro Mojokerto. Due to time and cost limitations in carrying out this research, the researchers did not carry out this research within the scope of field trials. Field trials involved schools other than small group trials, limited trials and large group trials. Field group trials involving schools within the school environment in sub-districts, districts, cities or provinces require very large funds. Keywords: Reading Skills, Javanese Script, Al Barqy Method

Abstract

Abstract

An abstract is considered a miniature of a whole series of scientific works. The contents of each chapter in the entire scientific result must be represented in an abstract. However, various abstracts have different structures from one another. Thus, writers of scientific papers have a choice with the appropriate abstract form, but at the same time, they also have problems choosing which structure to use. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the designs of abstract writing from the EFL undergraduate students who different academic advisors guide. A qualitative method with content analysis was employed in this study by examining students' scientific work under the guidance of other supervisors in the form of theses with a focus on the abstract part. As a result of the research, it has been identified that most abstracts employed informative type and structured format with different compositions. In addition, the research results would contribute to the description of the abstract structure utilized by the students as the object of this research. Based on these findings, it can be suggested that understanding abstract construction can be employed by introducing different types of abstract and their format in academic writing courses or research methodology. The lecturer can apply the strategy of compiling leading questions for each abstract type. Answering the leading questions has guided the flow of abstract writing ideas in a thesis.

Abstract

This community service implementation aims to give EFL teachers new perspectives on managing the online materials using CI-LMS. The service employs a field observation method. The participants were high school EFL teachers in Sidoarjo district. The activities were a one-day seminar and online training using CI-LMS and WhatsApp group. The results of this study indicate that participants are satisfied with the training provided, but on the other hand, many participants seem not yet ready to use the CI-LMS shortly. CI-LMS is considered an excellent online learning media for developing the teaching and learning system during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, many teachers are not ready to use this platform at this time. For this reason, ongoing assistance to teachers is essential.

Abstract

As a substitute for the National Examination (UN), the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) has prepared a National Assessment program. The National Assessment is a program to assess the quality of each school, madrasah, and equality program at the primary and secondary levels. The quality of the education unit is assessed based on the primary student learning outcomes (literacy, numeracy, and character), the quality of the teaching and learning process, and the climate of the academic unit that supports learning. The information was obtained from three main instruments: Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM), the Character Survey, and the Learning Environment Survey. Because this program is still limited to being introduced in the world of education as a substitute for the National Examination, there are still many things that the assessment implementer asks. Therefore, for the assessment of student learning outcomes, technical guidance for the teacher of SMA Negeri in Surabaya is arranged, which is expected to provide insight in the preparation of assessments that impact increasing students' critical thinking skills. This technical guidance is under community service activity from the faculty member of English Education Study Program.

Abstract

This research explores the role of e-portfolios in enhancing reflective practice and language proficiency among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners. E-portfolios provide a structured platform for students to document learning artifacts, engage in self-reflection, and monitor progress, fostering deeper insights into their language development. The research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of e-portfolios in improving learning outcomes and identify challenges in their implementation. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected from 161 EFL students and teachers in East Java, Indonesia, through online questionnaires and Likert-scale assessments. Findings reveal that 74.6% of students had positive experiences with e-portfolios, with 70% noting improved language competency through regular reflection. Teachers (85%) viewed e-portfolios as valuable for tracking progress and engagement, though some lacked training. Key challenges included time management (60%) and varying student confidence levels in reflection (42.9%). Best practices for effective implementation include teacher professional development, curriculum integration, peer collaboration, and structured feedback. The study highlights e-portfolios' potential to transform EFL education but notes limitations due to its regional sample. Implications suggest broader adoption of e-portfolios, supported by training and policy frameworks, to enhance reflective learning and language proficiency in diverse EFL contexts.

Abstract

This phenomenological case study explores teachers' perspectives on implementing English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) with the Cambridge curriculum in a rural Islamic primary school in Mojokerto, Indonesia. Against the backdrop of global EMI expansion and Indonesia’s push for bilingual education, the study addresses gaps in EMI research, which predominantly focuses on higher education. Through interviews and classroom observations, four key challenges emerged: teacher language proficiency, students’ low English comprehension, inadequate professional development, and teaching anxiety, rooted in rural and non-English educational backgrounds. Conversely, benefits included global competence, improved English skills, elevated school credibility, and teacher enthusiasm. Findings underscore the transformative potential of EMI in marginalized settings, alongside the need for context-specific teacher training and curriculum integration. The study advocates for longitudinal research on student outcomes and technology-enhanced solutions to address rural disparities, contributing to debates on equitable EMI implementation in religious and low-resource contexts.
