Abstract

Recent innovations in online education have created an opportunity for hybrid learning, combining online and traditional learning. Hybrid learning leads to particular challenges for pre-service teachers, such as the way to manage the materials. Furthermore, hybrid learning materials can be developed using technology to create multimedia content that is more interactive than traditional print materials. Digital tools such as video, sound, animations, and graphics are powerful tools in the teacher's hands to engage learners and provide immersive learning experiences. This study aims to investigate pre-service teachers' perceptions of hybrid learning materials development. The mixed-method approach with questionnaire, documentation, and interview was employed to gain the data. The study result has shown that pre-service teachers perceive technology in a positive light when it is used for teaching purposes appropriately. Given this information, policymakers suggested having an investment in developing hybrid-learning materials.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies have played essential roles in the development of teachers. In recent years, AI-based digital writing assistants have received increasing attention among teachers. Thus, this study aims to know the use of AI-based digital writing assistants to help teachers write scientific articles. It used a sequential explanatory mixed methods study to gain the research data. Descriptive analysis was completed for the quantitative data, and thematic analysis was used for the qualitative data. The instrument used was surveys, consisting of pre and post-survey. Interestingly, the pre-survey found that teachers are not very familiar with digital writing assistants. Some of the participants had no prior knowledge of AI-assisted writing tools, while others only had limited experience. This means that more people need to be aware of the potential that AI offers in facilitating scientific writing. Furthermore, it is essential to teach teachers how to use this technology, as it can help them save time and effort while they write their articles. The post-survey conducted at the end of the project found that teachers found the process of writing a scientific article to be easier and more enjoyable with the help of AI. The results suggest that AI-based digital writing assistants may be able to provide an alternative method for teachers to compose their scientific articles. This tool could help to reduce errors and enable more efficient writing with greater accuracy. Additionally, the feedback suggests that AI-based tools could aid in improving students’ engagement and interest in writing.

Abstract

This community service implementation aims to give EFL teachers new perspectives on managing the online materials using CI-LMS. The service employs a field observation method. The participants were high school EFL teachers in Sidoarjo district. The activities were a one-day seminar and online training using CI-LMS and WhatsApp group. The results of this study indicate that participants are satisfied with the training provided, but on the other hand, many participants seem not yet ready to use the CI-LMS shortly. CI-LMS is considered an excellent online learning media for developing the teaching and learning system during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, many teachers are not ready to use this platform at this time. For this reason, ongoing assistance to teachers is essential.

Abstract

As a substitute for the National Examination (UN), the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) has prepared a National Assessment program. The National Assessment is a program to assess the quality of each school, madrasah, and equality program at the primary and secondary levels. The quality of the education unit is assessed based on the primary student learning outcomes (literacy, numeracy, and character), the quality of the teaching and learning process, and the climate of the academic unit that supports learning. The information was obtained from three main instruments: Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM), the Character Survey, and the Learning Environment Survey. Because this program is still limited to being introduced in the world of education as a substitute for the National Examination, there are still many things that the assessment implementer asks. Therefore, for the assessment of student learning outcomes, technical guidance for the teacher of SMA Negeri in Surabaya is arranged, which is expected to provide insight in the preparation of assessments that impact increasing students' critical thinking skills. This technical guidance is under community service activity from the faculty member of English Education Study Program.

Abstract

This study investigated the challenges prospective professional teachers face in implementing hybrid learning in their future classrooms. It explores the potential of hybrid learning, which combines online and in-person instruction, to revolutionize traditional education. The research involved 21 students from a private university in Surabaya, Indonesia, who participated in the Teacher Professional Development program. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews to gain insights into the participants' experiences and perspectives. A comprehensive analysis using both quantitative (descriptive statistics and inferential analysis) and qualitative (thematic analysis) methods identified key strategies for effectively implementing and carrying out hybrid learning. The findings highlight the importance of enhancing students' and teachers' learning competence, explaining the course structure, properly preparing and delivering lessons, and obtaining support from various stakeholders. Additionally, the study outlines the responsibilities of teachers in designing and delivering best-practice hybrid courses and emphasizes the essential support and policy obligations of educational institutions. This study fills a significant gap in implementing hybrid learning in education, providing valuable insights for future educational practices.

Abstract

Research on the Kampus Mengajar program has revealed challenges for teachers, particularly in advancing their professional development. However, other studies suggest that the program holds the potential for a significant positive impact on teacher professional growth. This study explores how the Kampus Mengajar program contributes to the professional development of pre-service teachers, focusing on their perspectives and experiences. This narrative case study involved four pre-service teachers from a private university in Surabaya, Indonesia. Data were collected through reflective notes and semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis deductively to explore prominent themes. The findings indicate that the Kampus Mengajar program supports pre-service teachers' professionalism by enhancing their pedagogical knowledge, teaching skills, and problem-solving abilities. Participants appreciated the program for boosting their self-efficacy and helping them master the 4C skills: critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration. This study underscores the value of teaching practicums in fostering future teachers' professionalism. Despite some challenges in the program's implementation, the empirical evidence suggests that the Kampus Mengajar program should be continued.
