Abstract

Steam reforming is a process of hydrogen formation through the process of vaporization of vegetable oil and water at a certain heating temperature using a catalyst, so the chemical reaction is occurred and produced hydrogen gas. The catalysts used is potassium hydroxide (KOH) in the amount of 1 gram, 2 grams, and 3 grams, which are heated at 350oC. To investigate the effectiveness of hydrogen production, the vegetable oil and water mixture is varied of 1:1, 1:2, 1:3. The steam coming out from the pipe is burned to get the color of the flame. The area of flame color is calculated using AutoCAD software, which is the color are a blue flame, yellow flame, and the color of red flame. The calculation results area of the flame colors showed that the greater addition of vegetable oil to water and the greater addition of the potassium hydroxide catalyst is increased hydrogen production.

Abstract

This study aims to minimize the occurrence of air pressure losses in the airflow pipe. The research was carried out by giving the blades varying 5, 6, 7 blades with an angle of 40˚, 50˚, 60˚ in the pipe with full valve, valve openings, ½ and ¼, measurements were made at 3 measurement points using a manometer U in place it in the pipe before passing the propeller and after passing the propeller there are 2 measurement points. The results showed that the smaller the number of blades with the smallest angle, the greater the pressure produced, and the more the number of blades with the largest angle, the smaller the pressure produced

Abstract

Technology developments in the maritime sector, especially shipping has experienced a significant increase. One of them is the technological development of ship parts such as a bow. The aim’ of this development is to determine the shape of the ship's bow that is most effective when moving. The study was conducted using miniatures resembling 7 bulbous forms. Dimensions of the pool are 150 x 30 x 8 cm, type of fluid used is seawater without currents. Ship's propulsion uses 6-volt dynamo. Travel time is measured using a stopwatch by taking data 3 times in each form of a bow. Data analysis is based on the average inhibitory coefficient (Cd) value that occurs. The results of the study show the shape of the bowel influences rate of speed and drag coefficient of the ship. The oblique direction I produce a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.27 when the ship moves, so speed and travel time are more maximal than the other 6 bow directions.

Abstract

This research is using plastic material with large size into the place of the counting, the material is torn, pulled, crushed, and crushed by two cylinders composed of a knife or spinning the crusher in the opposite direction and material becomes Soft. By adjusting the engine round variation of 200, 300 and 400 rpm and variations of plastic material in the form of rice containers are made of intact and perforated. Thus obtained results that resemble plastic beans for recycled materials. Results of research data on the influence of the variation of the engine rounds on the performance of plastic counting machine, with the change in the results of the difference in the RPM is influenced by the smaller the number (6.68) then the size of the shape at the speed RPM 200. Instead in a large rpm, the weight change of the results of the number (12.6) of the size of the shape at the speed of 400 rpm in whole plastic material.

Abstract

The development of technology today is very fast especially in the sector of ease in using a tool to help human activities one of which is generator set, when there is a problem in the needs of electricity use this tool is very helpful. But in the use of this tool produces a noisy sound. Noise is a problem that can interfere with physical health at risk of hearing loss. Various technical efforts are done to reduce noise levels such as changing the number and diameter of the silencer holes that can decrease the sound produced by the generator well. The purpose of this research was to gain the influence of the number and diameter of the silencer hole against the resulting exhaust noise engine. The research was conducted with experiments, a variation of the number of silencer holes amounted to 18, 23, and 28, while the silencer diameter was used 2mm, 3mm, and 5mm. Noise level measurements are conducted at a distance of 1 meter, 2 meters, and 3 meters from Sound source using a sound level meter. Data retrieval is performed every 1-minute interval using the Stopwatch tool. With the results of the number of holes 23 and hole diameter 2mm that can reduce noise well.

Abstract

Motorcycle workshops are a vehicle maintenance service business sector that is in great demand as the number of motorcycles increases. The technical activities of the business have potential hazards related to aspects of Occupational Safety and Health (K3). This community service activity is carried out to identify hazard risks and provide knowledge on OHS aspects in motorcycle repair shops. The activity was carried out by involving two small business partners of a motorcycle repair shop who were selected by considering the age of the owner and the location of the business. Activities are carried out with the stages of coordination, implementation and preparation of reports and publication of activities. The results of the activity show that partners really need K3 knowledge but prioritize things that are practical and easy to implement.

Abstract

Limbah batang tembakau mengandung selulosa yang berpotensi menjadi bahan bakar alternatif berupa bioetanol. bertujuan untuk mendapatkan karakteristik nyala api bioetanol limbah batang tembakau. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode eksperimen. Batang tembakau yang digunakan adalah jenis Na Oogst dan Voor Oogst yang didapat dari daerah kabupaten Jember. Batang tembakau dikeringkan dan diolah menjadi serbuk berukuran random 8 mm – 10 mm, ≤ 0,26-1,19 mm dan 0,25 mm. Serbuk selanjutnya diproses delignifikasi, fermentasi dan distilasi. Produk bioetanol diukur massa jenis dan titik didihnya. Pengujian nyala api dilakukan dengan membakar 1 ml bioetanol dengan pemantikan api. Nyala api diamati dengan kamera dan dilakukan pengukuran durasi nyala menggunakan stopwatch. Hasil pengamatan diolah menggunakan aplikasi ImageJ untuk mendapatkan luas nyala api, dan prosentase warna api merah, kuning dan biru. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya perbedaan produk dan karakteristik nyala api bioetanol berdasarkan 2 jenis tembakau yang digunakan

Abstract

In development planning in the mechanical industry or civil engineering construction, it is very common to use the properties of the iron rod material which can deflect or what is known as a cantilever. The factors that affect the size of the force exerted on the stem are directly proportional to the amount of deflection that occurs. In other words, the greater the load experienced by the rod, the greater the deflection. Deflection of rods plays an important role, especially in building construction, wherein certain parts such as the shaft, deflection is very undesirable. Because of deflection, the work of the shaft or construction will be abnormal so that it can cause damage to the construction or other parts. This study aims to find out how much deflection of cantilevered rods using metal plate material when given a distributed and concentrated load. Based on the data obtained from the research process, the results in this study indicate that there is an effect of slackening distance on the iron plate with 3 variations in loading. The results showed that the loading rate affected changes in the angle of deflection of the iron plate in every variation of the number of plates used. The greatest effect occurred in the plate variation size of 0.8 mm with a loading level of 3 kg, namely 3.64 x 10-5 and the smallest effect on plate variations was 1.8 mm with a loading rate of 3 kg, which was 0. The results showed that the loading rate was spread across 3 plate variations. with a load of 3 kg spread over 3 points with a distance of 15 cm from point 1 to point 3. The biggest deflection effect occurs in plate variations of 0.8 mm which is 3.64x10-5 and the smallest effect on plate variations is 1.8 mm with the same load of 0.

Abstract

Jig is a fishing rod that is usually used to catch squid or cuttlefish in the form of fish, shrimp, or others. This study aims to determine the effect of differences in the shape of the surface of the jig on the flow pattern of freshwater fluids. The study used a variation of 3 jig surface shapes with the same length, namely 7 cm, 1 cm wide. The angle of inclination of the jig includes 15⁰ and 30⁰. The type of flow is laminar conditioned using a volume flow rate of 76.60 liters per second. The jig is conditioned to move up and down using an electric motor. The flow patterns formed were analyzed using visual tests and measurements using Kinovea 0.8.15. The results showed that the shape of the surface of the jig had an effect on the fluid flow pattern. The highest wave occurs at jigs 3 with 15⁰ variation with a wave crest of 4.55 cm, while for jigs 1, 30⁰ variation produces the lowest wave of 1.51 cm. Abstract

Hammer mill is a machine for crushing hard materials and flour. By modifying the hammer shapes and varying the motor rotation speed, it is hoped that it will be able to crush the shells into powder with different product dimensions. The quality of the product produced will describe the performance of the hammer mill machine. Experiments were carried out by making the ends of the batter dimensions 1, 2 and 3 cm with a motor speed of 1000 rpm, 1100 rpm and 1200 rpm. The highest yield of the 3 cm bat type is at 1200 rpm at 96.7%. Keywords: Clamshell, Hammer Mill
