Abstract

Abstract

Vocational campuses are campuses where most of the learning is carried out through practice with the aim that students have more skills and competencies when working in industry. However, in the COVID-19 pandemic situation, all learning must be carried out online, both theoretical and practical courses. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of feasibility and success of the online learning of applied physics practicum courses at the Politeknik Maritim Negeri Indonesia through analysis of student perceptions with the provision that the perception index is positive if it has a percentage of >40%. The method used in this research is descriptive quantitative. The object of this research is students who take practical applied physics courses from the Nautika study program. The number of students who filled out the questionnaire was determined by using a purposive random sampling technique. The data was obtained through a googleform questionnaire and shared via whatsapp messages. The results of the study showed that the student perception index got a positive value with a feasibility percentage of 87% for the component of teaching and learning activities, 98% for the component of lecturer competence and 88% for the component of facilities and infrastructure.

Abstract

This article discusses the management of household waste disposal and segregation in Karangjati Village, Bergas District, Semarang Regency. The background of this activity is that most of the people in this village work as factory workers, and they still have limitations in terms of waste management. Through Community Service this time it is hoped to be able to provide solutions to the problems faced by residents in Karangjati Village. The method for implementing this activity consists of (1) preparation, (2) implementation, and (3) evaluation with participants. The activity begins with the delivery of material with lectures, discussions, questions and answers about waste management and demonstrations about handling household waste such as food scraps and leaves for composting. The results of this community service activity show that the participants who took part in the activity from the beginning to the end of the activity have succeeded in increasing their understanding of waste management. This is indicated by the seriousness of the activity participants when doing waste sorting and composting practices.

Abstract

Ironwood (eusideroxylon zwageri) is a type of wood that has great potential for industrial development. Currently, forest exploitation activities and the wood industry produce 30%-60% solid wood waste and have not been utilized optimally. One way to use it is to make composite materials. The purpose of this study was to determine the most optimal drying technique of ironwood powder, to provide information on the morphology, content and functional groups as well as the mechanical strength of the biocomposite with a volume fraction ratio. The ironwood powder samples in this study were characterized using the SEM-EDX, FTIR, and Vickers hardness tests. The results of the SEM test obtained information that the morphology of all samples had similarities, namely the surface was rough and the measured diameter of the sample ranged from 50-100 µm. While the EDX test obtained information that all samples had high carbon and oxygen content. The FTIR test results showed that ironwood powder had a cellulose content as evidenced by the absorption peaks and chemical bonds that were the same as pure cellulose. The results of the mechanical test on the biocomposite showed that sample C had the highest average HV value of 13.3 N/m2, while sample E had an average HV value of 12.26 N/m2 below the HV value of sample E. Meanwhile, sample A obtained the lowest hardness value with an average HV 5.93 N/m2.

Abstract

Garbage is a severe problem for the community. The waste management that has yet to be carried out optimally is very evident in the community, especially in Ngobo Hamlet, Wringinputih, which is located in Burgas District, Semarang Regency. Residents need to understand waste management thoroughly. It is necessary to educate the community about non-organic waste management with the 3R method (Reduce, reuse, recycle). The purpose of this service activity is for the community to be able to learn about waste problems and the adverse effects of waste, know about the waste selection process, and be able to reduce, reuse, and recycle non-organic waste. The stages in this activity include a literature review, obtaining activity permits coordinated with the cadres of residents of Ngobo Hamlet, planning needs, counseling on waste sorting and handling with the 3R method, and utilizing business opportunities with their potential. This community service program is able to increase community understanding about handling non-organic waste with the 3R method. The reduction method is to reduce the use of excessive materials and energy. Meanwhile, reuse by reusing existing items. While recycling is recycling used goods. In the recycling method, the community is given examples of how to recycle used goods into new goods that have economic value. One example of recycled goods is used gallons, which are recycled into flower vases and trash cans. The changes after this service activity are expected to change community behavior in handling non-organic waste for the better.
