Abstract

In English teaching, teaching methods should be applied in the classroom for the successfulteaching activity. It is believed that the Grammar Translation Method (GTM) is effective forteaching reading comprehension and motivating students. This study investigated the effect ofGTM on students’ reading comprehension and their reading motivation at SMAN 4 PalangkaRaya, Kalimantan Tengah. The study applied a quasi-experimental research design. To beresearch participants, 30 students of the natural science class were as an experiment group,and 30 students of the social science class were as a control group taken with a cluster randomsampling. Data were collected using the reading test and questionnaire. The collected datawere then analyzed using one-way ANOVA with SPSS 20. The results showed that GTM hasa significant effect on students reading comprehension and reading motivation. It was foundthat the degree of freedom between group (DFb) = 2, the degree of freedom within group(DFw) = 87 (Ttable = 1.99), and Fvalue was 37.019. It showed that Fvalue was higher than Ttable (37.019 1.99). It means that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected.

Abstract

Students' anxiety about speaking English is significant to solve because it can affect their speaking ability. This study aims to measure the effectiveness of pair work activities on students’ speaking anxiety and speaking ability. The researchers conducted quasi-experimental  research in Palangka Raya in the academic year of 2021/2022. In collecting the data, a questionnaire and a speaking test were used.  The population in this study were eighth graders students in one of the public junior high school. The researcher used two classes as the sample, the experimental and control class, which comprised 60 students. The data were analyzed using the descriptive statistics and Multivariate Analysis of Variance test via SPSS.23. The result showed pair work activities effectively decreased the students’ speaking anxiety and increased the students' speaking ability. It evidenced by the average score in the post-test of students' speaking anxiety in the experimental class was 52.77, while the control class was 60.00. In addition, the average score in the post-test of the students’ speaking ability in the experimental class was 76.63, while the control class was 64.43. It showed that there is a significant difference between the two classes. Therefore, this study indicates that pair work activities effectively lower students' speaking anxiety and increase their speaking ability at eighth graders students in one of the public junior high school in Palangka Raya.

Abstract

This article aims to explain The Implementation Of Merdeka Curriculum For Formal English Learning. The curriculum becomes very important in educational institutions because the curriculum is the “heart” of education. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with library research methods, using synthesis and content analysis. The results of the study show that the Implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum at the Elementary School level prioritizes project-based learning. In the implementation of learning is not only focused on the world of knowledge but emphasizes the mastery of character, literacy, skills, and technology. Implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in English Learning at the Middle School Level, namely by applying the Project Based Learning method is the application of student-oriented learning (student-centered). Implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum at the English Learning High School level is by implementing a curriculum that is Basic Framework, Targeted Competency, Curriculum Structure, Learning Process, Assessment, Teaching Resources, and Curriculum Tools.

Abstract

This study has examined how short animated video with captions can have effect on students' vocabulary mastery. The researcher has used quasi-experiment in this study, where there is an experimental class and a control class. The population of eighth grade students in the school studied was 271 students, while the sample taken was 60 students divided into two classes. The experimental class was treated with English language learning using short animated video with captions. Meanwhile, the control class received the treatment of learning English without the media of short animated video with captions. The results of this study showed that after the treatment there was an increase in the experimental class and the control class. However, the increase in vocabulary mastery in the experimental class obtained a higher average value than the control class. Therefore, it is found that the use of short animated video media with captions can improve students' vocabulary mastery in learning English.

Abstract

The introduction of English vocabulary that integrates Islamic values is crucial for developing comprehensive English language proficiency in students. This dedication is focused on the goal of introducing English vocabulary with Islamic content to MIS Fathul Jannah students through religious songs. The approach used is an active and enjoyable learning model utilizing songs as a medium. Song selection is carried out through a selection process to adjust the difficulty level and learning needs. The results of the activity show a significant improvement in the mastery of English vocabulary by students after participating in this program. Thus, the introduction of English vocabulary through religious songs has proven to be effective in enhancing students' English language abilities while instilling deep-seated Islamic values. Programs like this can serve as an alternative in efforts to develop English language curricula based on religious values in schools.

Abstract

Examining curriculum-based learning for English language learners (ELLs) is the goal of this journal article. Effective instructional strategies that address the particular needs of ELLs are becoming more and more important as a result of the increasing diversity in classrooms. The theoretical underpinnings of curriculum-based learning are examined in this article along with its potential advantages for ELLs. The difficulties of applying this strategy in various educational settings are also covered, along with some practical considerations. The goal of curriculum-based learning for English language learners (ELLs) is to create and use teaching tools and methods that are specifically suited to the linguistic and academic requirements of ELL students. This method acknowledges the particular difficulties ELLs face in learning the language while also engaging with content knowledge in a range of subject areas. This journal article explores the theoretical underpinnings, essential elements, and potential advantages of curriculum-based learning for English language learners (ELLs). The focus of this journal article's thorough overview of curriculum-based learning for ELLs is on its importance in promoting inclusive education for a variety of student populations. Teachers and policymakers can support the academic success and linguistic development of ELL students by making decisions based on their understanding of the theoretical underpinnings, essential elements, and potential advantages of this approach.
