Abstract

KARAKTERISTIK KOROSI ALUMINIUM DAN BAJA TAHAN KARAT. Peristiwa korosi pada logam dan paduan seringkali merupakan peristiwa yang perlu mendapat perhatian yang serius, karena peristiwa ini berkaitan dengan umur pakai sesuatu bahan. Bahkan dalam hal tertentu, proses korosi yang tidak terawasi dan tidak terkendali, bisa mengakibatkan kecelakaan pada suatu instalasi. Makalah ini membahas peristiwa korosi pada logam, antara lain kondisi yang berpengaruh pada korosi serta kemungkinan jenis korosi yang terjadi terutama jenis korosi yang terjadi pada aluminium dan baja tahan karat .

Abstract

In order to fully meet bio-compatibility requirement of titanium alloy as implant material, coating with hydroxyapatite (HA) is normally applied. The present research concerns on the effect of substrate pre-treatment on the coating of HA on titanium alloy by high-velocity oxy fuel process (HVOF). Before the coating, all samples were pre-treated by thermo-mechanical treatment in order to obtain fine grain structure. Three type of substrate pre-treatment is then applied on different substrates, including, sand-blasting, sand-blasting+etching, and sand-blasting+etching+CNT intermediate layer. After coating, post-annealing treatment was applied on each sample and characterization was performed on the sample after the treatment. It was obtained that the sand-blasted sample has relatively rougher surface (SEM observation), lower degree of crystallinity (XRD characterization) and higher residual strain (XRD data calculation by Mud Master software) as compared with other samples. From FTIR characterization it can be obtained that all samples show no differences in orbital function.

Abstract

Besi Cor Nodular (BCN) yang juga dikenal dengan Besi Cor Ulet (ductile), karena sifat- sifatnya dewasa ini makin banyak dipakai dalam pembuatan komponen-komponen mesin.Suatu pengkajian yang membahas tentang keterkaitan antara proses pembuatan BCN yang memuat banyak variabel dengan metoda optimasinya sangat perlu dilakukan, guna mendapatkan suatu bentuk proses pembuatan BCN yang optimum baik ditinjau dari segi teknologi maupun ekonomi.Studi kasus yang dilakukan kali ini adalah pembahasan tentang Metoda Optimisasi Teknologis dengan parameter Komposisi Kimia Base Material yang digunakan dalam proses pembuatan BCN.

Abstract

This paper presents experimental and numerical analysis on the influence of crack orientations to the fracture toughness of mode I and mode II for woven type carbon/epoxy four ply laminate. The experimental procedure is carried out through off axis tensile test (ASTM D 3039-76) with nine variation of crack orientations i.e. 5°, 10°, 15°, 30°, 45° 65°, 75°, 80°, and 90°. Three rail shear test (ASTM D 4255-83) is utilized for zero degree crack orientation. The stress and strain contours around crack tips are obtained numerically using the finite element method. Numerical and experimental results of the mode I (KI) and mode II (KII) fracture thoughness are presented in graphical form as a function of crack directions. Adopting Wu's(11) Criteria for unidirectional lamina and Hahn's[6] Criteria for general anisotropic lamina, a new mixed mode fracture toughness criteria is developed for woven fiber matrix laminate.

Abstract

The high yield rate of casting product indicates the efficiency of casting process. Yield of casting is defined as a ratio between the casting weight to the total weight included the riser and gating system. Increasing yield could be accomplished through the optimizing of riser. Trial and error of the existing alternative designs is the most commonly method. This requires a lot of time and money. Computer software is used in order to reduce this effort. The applied software is AFS solidification system which enable us to simulate the cooling and solidification process. The alternative designs could be simulated on the computer. By using FCD 700 as the base material of Roll press, the research gave an increase of yield, i.e. from 68,5 % yield to 76,6%. yield This is significant for a casting weight of 139 kg.

Abstract

Ferro casting ductile 700 (FCD 700) is a ferrous material with carbon content > 2 %. It has pearlitc microstructure with a little amount of ferrite and nodular graphite. In as-cast condition FCD 700 has tensile strength 700 N/mm2 , elongation 2 % min. , hardness 229 "“ 302 BHN and impact value 7 joule. Heat treatment process is a process that can be executed to ferrous material. With heating the material until a range of austenite temperature then controlling the cooling rate. The objective is to repair or to modify the mechanical properties of material belongs before. In this article there's a research about how far the exchange of mechanical properties or microstructure in FCD 700 if it being heat-treated. Cooling rate is given by isothermal and continuous condition. The variation of cooling rate and holding in some isothermal temperature is also accomplished. Research data affirm some gradation of mechanical properties and microstructure. The variety associate with cooling rate and isothermal holding which is performed.

Abstract

Indonesian small and medium industries (UKM) have the ability to produce relatively cheap truck/bus brake drums, but the quality is needed to be improved. The drums usually fail in form of cracks or fractures before the design life is reached. This paper presents failure identification of the UKM's brake drums that is including material aspects, operational loading, and stress analysis. The mechanical and physical properties of the materials are studied by conducting tensile test, hardness test, chemical composition, and metallography. Fractography is also conducted to study the type and process of the failures. The brake loads are analyzed for various operational conditions such as straight, curved, and downhill path, with various value of decceleration. Stress analysis of the drum due to the applied loads is conducted using finite element method. The complete analysis shows that the UKM's drums are not strong enough for the applied braking load. It is also observed that the crack locations are in agreement with the highly computed stressed areas.

Abstract

Suatu paduan Cu yang digunakan sebagai bahan untuk pembuatan dandang, mengalami keretakan pada saat bahan tersebut ditempa. Untuk menanggulangi sebab-sebab keretakan yang terjadi kemudian dilakukan pemerikasaan struktur mikro, pengujian kekerasan, pengujian pengerolan dan analisa komposisi kimia terhadap bahan dandang tersebut. Sebagai bahan perbandingan dilakukan pula pemeriksaan yang serupa terhadap bahan baik. Dari hasil pemeriksaan yang dilakukan maka diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa penyebab keretakan pada bahan dandang adalah unsur Pb yang dapat menyebabkan terjadinya kerapuhan panas (hot shortness). Kerapuhan panas ini diakibatkan karena titik cair Pb lebih rendah daripada titik cair logam Cu, dan tidak larut dalam keadaan padat.
