Abstract

Domestic violence spans across cultures and many countries include Indonesia. In the women and children perspectives, it is taboo to report the domestic violence because it is a private matter, not for the public domain. Therefore domestic violence screening through the empowerment and mentoring of mental health cadres is needed to raise awareness of domestic violence in rural community. The aim of this study is to explore the influence of the empowerment and mentoring of mental health cadres on screening domestic violence. A quasi experimental was conducted among mental health cadres. The total sampling derived from six sub district of Kalegen village. Data were analyzed by using SPSS (version 19). A total sample of 22 mental health cadres aged between 28 years to 49 years. There is a high significant screening capability in pretest-posttest after empowerment and  mentoring of mental health cadres (p> .001). The empowerment and mentoring of mental health cadres on screening domestic violence could strengthen support and raising domestic violence awareness. This intervention should become a part of community health program in community. A longitudinal study can be carried out to prevent domestic violence.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is often referred to as the silent killer due to its potential to harm vital organs like the heart and kidneys without showing noticeable symptoms. Adherence to medication is crucial in preventing hypertension. Various factors, including medication-related issues, contribute to patient non-compliance. Many individuals fail to adhere to hypertension medication due to perceived side effects following consumption. Methods: This study uses a quantitative research method with a correlational research design. It employs a Cross-Sectional approach. The sampling technique used in this study is proportional simple random sampling. The sample consists of 88 respondents who suffer from hypertension. The research instrument used in this study is a questionnaire on factors influencing medication adherence among hypertension patients. To determine the relationships between these factors and medication adherence among hypertension patients, this study utilizes the Chi-Square test and Logistic Regression analysis. Conclusion: The most dominant factor influencing medication adherence in hypertension sufferers is the knowledge factor, followed by the second factor, namely the assumption of drug side effects. The most dominant factor influencing medication adherence in hypertensive patients is knowledge, followed by the second factor, which is assumptions about medication side effects.

Abstract

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the non-communicable diseases which is the mayor leading cause of death in the world. One of the modifiable factors of cardiovascular disease is central obesity. Assessment of central obesity status was carried out by measuring waist circumference (WC) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR). This study aimed to determine the relationship between WC and WHR with the risk of cardiovascular disease. This was an observational study with a cross-sectional design. There were 106 respondents selected using a convenience sampling technique. In this study, the risk of cardiovascular disease was calculated using the Jakarta Cardiovascular Score. The Spearman Rho’s was used as bivariate analysis for this study. The findings showed that WC and the risk of cardiovascular disease indicates a significant relationship with a moderate correlation (p <0.001 and r =0.467). Meanwhile, there was a significant relationship between WHR and the risk of cardiovascular disease (p<0.001 and r =0.385). Nurse may use this study result as an evidence to develop a preventive central obesity program.

Abstract

Blood pressure is crucial in healthcare, and measurement deviations can lead to diagnostic errors and incorrect treatment. Additionally, blood pressure helps detect various cardiovascular diseases. Most people measure blood pressure in only one arm, neglecting the other. However, blood pressure readings can vary due to many factors. This research aims to measure differences in blood pressure between the left and right arms, specifically systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and mean arterial pressure (MAP). The study employed a quantitative approach with a comparative observational analysis design. Probability sampling, specifically proportional stratified random sampling, was used for sample selection. A digital blood pressure monitor was utilized for measurements. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon surrogate test. The statistical Wilcoxon test showed a mean difference of 0.002 (p<0.05) in the SBP measurements, indicating a significant difference between right and left-arm SBP measurements. The systolic blood pressure in the right arm was 102.37 mmHg, which was 1.66 mmHg higher than that measured in the left arm. While there is a difference in the average systolic, diastolic, and MAP results between the left and right arms, it is insignificant. However, the right arm's systolic blood pressure (SBP) is notably higher than the left. Keywords: Blood pressure measurements; hypertension; health assessment; innovation; healthcare delivery

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the dangerous diseases, earning the nickname "The Silent Killer." Hypertension can be controlled with good self-management. Factors influencing hypertension self-management include age, gender, occupation, family support, level of knowledge, and self-efficacy. Self-efficacy refers to an individual's belief that determines the extent of their ability and motivation in managing hypertension. Kalpin (Smart Calendar) is an Android-based mobile application that provides essential features to support self-management for hypertension patients. This study aims to determine the extent of the impact of using the Smart Calendar (Kalpin) application on improving the self-efficacy of hypertension patients in Kaliangkrik Village. The research design applied a pre-experimental approach with a single group (one group pretest-posttest without control group). The sampling technique used was purposive sampling with non-probability sampling. The research instrument used was a questionnaire titled "Self-Efficacy for Managing Hypertension," with a sample size of 44 hypertension patients in Kaliangkrik Village. The hypothesis test results using paired t-test showed a p-value of <0.001 (p-value = <0.05), indicating that there is an effect of using the Smart Calendar (Kalpin) application on improving the self-efficacy of hypertension patients in Kaliangkrik Village. However, the calculation of the effect size using Cohen's d showed 0.01, indicating a very small effect. This means that while the use of the Smart Calendar (Kalpin) application does affect the self-efficacy improvement of hypertension patients in Kaliangkrik Village, the effect is very small. Therefore, the use of the Smart Calendar (Kalpin) application influences the improvement of self-efficacy in hypertension patients in Kaliangkrik Village, but the influence is very minimal.

Abstract

The city of Magelang is one of the implementers of a child-friendly service quality program. Children have the right to obtain satisfactory health services, one of which is the service of childfriendly health centers. Children who come to the Puskesmas are expected to get comfort during the examination process. Research conducted at the Puskesma of Magelang City showed that the perceived quality of child-friendly Puskesmas services provided by health workers was good, but the assessment to the satisfaction of the quality of children's services was still lacking especially in terms of infrastructure such as the absence of food and beverage facilities for children. mother and child while breastfeeding such as the ASI corner room, a playground in the waiting room and playground equipment for children during health checks. This facility is very useful for making children not anxious or afraid when examined so as to eliminate the trauma of children during health checks. In the absence of trauma, it is hoped that children will be easily invited to seek treatment at the Puskesmas when they are sick, so that they can be treated quickly. Management organization policy is needed to fulfill infrastructure facilities for children. The better quality ofservice provided will further increase customer satisfaction.

Abstract

Hypertension is a condition characterized by elevated blood pressure, which can occur at any time and affect anyone. If left untreated, hypertension can lead to complications such as heart disease, kidney failure, and stroke. Prevention efforts can be undertaken through pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches. One non-pharmacological management technique is the combination of Benson relaxation and aromatherapy. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of the combination of Benson relaxation and aromatherapy on blood pressure in hypertensive patients at the Central Magelang Public Health Center. The research method used a Quasi-Experimental design with a pre-post test with control group design approach. The measuring tools used were a sphygmomanometer and standard operating procedures (SOP). The sample was taken using purposive sampling technique, with a total of 76 respondents. The average reduction in systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the combination of Benson relaxation and aromatherapy group was 8 mmHg and 5.16 mmHg, respectively. Statistically, there were significant differences with a significance value of systolic blood pressure (p = 0.005) and diastolic blood pressure (p = 0.013), indicating that the combination of Benson relaxation and aromatherapy is effective in reducing blood pressure.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Individuals living with diabetes mellitus (DM) often face psychological distress because of the disease's chronic progression and the complexity of its daily management. Distress has been linked to poor glycemic control and decreased quality of life. Therefore, these psychological distresses require social support. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between social support, psychological distress, and quality of life in patients with diabetes mellitus living in the community. Methods: A cross-sectional quantitative study was conducted with 250 diabetic patients recruited from five public health centers in Central Java, Indonesia using purposive sampling. Patients with severe cognitive impairment, psychiatric disorders, or comorbid conditions that could significantly affect psychological status were excluded. Data were collected through validated instruments: the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), the Diabetes Distress Scale (DDS-17), and the World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF). The data were analyzed using Spearman’s rank correlation, and statistical significance was determined at p < 0.05. Results: The findings revealed a significant negative correlation between social support and diabetes-related distress (r = -0.48, p < 0.001), and a significant positive correlation between social support and quality of life (r = 0.55, p < 0.001). Conclusion: There was a significant association between social support and reduced distress as well as enhanced quality of life in community-dwelling individuals with diabetes. Nursing interventions that enhance family involvement, peer support, and community engagement are essential in diabetes management. These findings highlight the importance of psychosocial components in chronic disease care.
