Abstract

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The purpose of this Community Service activity is to improve healthy houses and healthy settlements in the prevention of TB disease in the Lempuing and Sawah Lebar Baru Health Center areas. Based on the analysis of the situation above, the problems in the working area of the Lempuing and Sawah Lebar Baru Health Centers can be identified as follows: the high number of TB cases in the working area of the Lempuing and Sawah Lebar Baru Health Centers, the low knowledge about residential sanitation, the dangers and health impacts caused, the low knowledge about the dangers of TB disease transmission, the low level of knowledge about PHBS. This method of community service activities uses the method of community empowerment and community participation with a family nursing approach through problem recognition, deciding to take care of, take care of it, modify the environment and utilize health facilities. Evaluation of activities and monitoring is carried out formatively and summatively through the instruments that have been prepared. The results of the Wilcoxon Ranked Test statistical test showed a p value of 0.000 (p value ≤ α = 0.05), meaning that there was an influence of knowledge and skills after community service.

Abstract

Natural disasters are unpredictable events, and preparedness is crucial to mitigate associated risks. One high-risk population for natural disasters is children. Disaster management programs for primary students is important to reduce the risk and prevent the worst impact. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the peer video on disaster management knowledge, attitude, and skill among primary students. The sample size of this study was 60 students, with 30 students in the intervention and 30 in the control. The intervention group was given the video of disaster management, and the control group was given the leaflet. There is a pretest and a posttest, and in between, there are four times interventions given. The results revealed the effectiveness of disaster management education with peer video to improve the knowledge, attitude, and skill among primary students in Bengkulu City. Earthquake disaster management education in Bengkulu City among primary students is effective to reduce the risk. Future studies can include more predictors of risk management

Abstract

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a chronic respiratory condition that significantly impacts patients' quality of life. This study explores the Deep Breathing Exercise technique in the context of COPD patients with ineffective breathing patterns. The aim of this analysis is to evaluate the effectiveness of deep breathing exercises in improving breathing quality and reducing breathlessness symptoms in COPD patients. The analysis method involves a case study to examine the positive effects of deep breathing exercises on lung capacity and breathing patterns in COPD patients. The study's results indicate that integrating deep breathing exercises into routine COPD management therapy can provide significant benefits in managing their symptoms. The practical implications of these findings underscore the importance of a holistic approach in designing therapeutic interventions to enhance the quality of life for patients with chronic respiratory conditions like COPD.

Abstract

An increasing mortality rate in many places including highways, workplaces, schools, or even in the home mostly occurred because of low knowledge of first aid with the proper and correct procedure. The first aid knowledge for heart diseases patient remains low among family members to prevent the worsening condition of the patients. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of first aid education on basic life support (BLS) among family members with heart disease in Lingkar Timur Primary Health Care, Bengkulu City. The design of this study was a quasi-experiment with a pre and post-test. Totally 40 respondents who contributed to this study who selected by simple random sampling. The intervention has been done by giving the demonstration, and audio-visual knowledge about basic life survey (BLS). The average age of the respondents was 30.23 years, more than half of the respondents were female by 26 people (65%), and more than half of the respondents graduated from senior high school by 21 people (52.5%). Most of the respondents work as an entrepreneur by 10 people (25%). Most of the respondents' income was <Rp 1,000,000 by 16 people (40%). The results showed that there was an effect of education with audio-visual and BLS demonstration on the skills of doing BLS (p-value 0.000 < 0.05). Training effects increasing the knowledge and skills of BLS respondents. Emergency training needs to be given to all people as a form of early awareness of emergency conditions

Abstract

Brain blood vessels block or rupture in cerebrovascular disease (CVD), limiting oxygen and nutrient delivery to brain tissue. An untreated stroke can cause lasting brain damage, disability, or even death. Common complications include muscle weakness, coordination issues, difficulty swallowing, slurred speech, reduced sensitivity, facial or bodily paralysis, and balance problems. Stroke survivors are advised to engage in physical exercises such as heel raises and sit-to-stand (STS) movements to address balance impairments. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of heel raise and STS exercises on improving balance in post-stroke patients at the Sawah Lebar Public Health Center in Bengkulu Municipality. A quasi-experimental design was employed with 52 participants split evenly into intervention and control groups. Participants were selected using purposive sampling, and balance was measured using the Berg Balance Scale (BBS). The Mann-Whitney test revealed a significant difference in balance scores between groups (p-value = 0.000, p ≤ 0.05, indicating a positive effect of the intervention). Before intervention, both groups experienced balance impairments, with the intervention group scoring 33.04 (SD 6.095) and the control group 31.54 (SD 4.933). After the intervention, scores improved more notably in the intervention group (scored by 38.04, SD 5.744) compared to the control group (scored by 32.65, SD 5.012), p-value = 0.000 (Mann-Whitney). Intervention increased the average score by +5.00 and control by +1.12. Heel raise and sit-to-stand  (STS) exercises significantly improved balance in post-stroke patients and may serve as effective rehabilitation strategies, although further larger randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm these findings.
